This defending is so fucking fake.. I meen you just press the A button and defender automaticly stays in line with the attacker, even if you do tricks they stay in line perfectly.. This is not manual defending its even faker then in 11..
After trying to get the hang of the system for months i've decided. Contain is useless, Jockeying rarely works, B tackle the AI just dart round or shrug off with ease. Very annoying system and what makes it worse is that defensive AI on your team is retards. With sliders you can fix issues with AI defence being a bit too good, not making enough errors in attack and your players not making runs enough. Against humans i can attack but i try everything i can with defending and nothing works.
i don't play online because i own an xbox n im poor so i can't afford it, and im used to playing on legendary against the CPU, one game i beat real madrid on legendary 4-2, next game i lose 5-1 against chivas... it's frustating... too easy to score against a human being, you'll get raped against the machine...

for me it works and annoys my friends haha you basicaly have 7 defenders and 2 cdm's the opposition cant get through because ther is basicaly too many defenders... when you intercept the ball give it long to lukaku or jones.They wont get every ball but trust me when they do ,they get through and you need to be clinical.i started using the tactics and so far i won 2 and drew 2 games but scored in every game .1 striker vs 4 defenders

I'm trying to come to grips with it. So far I feel like I'm not using Contain or Jockey all that much and 'just' running towards the opponent and timing a Slide or Standing tackle. It's not really working all that well for me and I'm often spending a lot of time chasing opponents. This is the same though with contain. I tend to be out of range for any tackle when containing :-( Can anyone explain the practical difference between Jockeying and Containing?

Tactical defending is easy and it starts everyone one the same level, regardless if your are new to the game or you have played it for 10 years. I think it has improved the game.

I was having so much trouble at the beginning but i love this new way of defending especially if you are playing against a human and that person has tactical defending too. But it appears that everybody is using the legacy defending Online, that is bullshit, at least you should be able to play only against tactical defenders. I play with all manual except Shooting at Semi and Savings at Auto now playing against Legacy Defenders and Assisted CR7 douche bags is fucking ridiculous.

I can't get used to it. When I think I have it on lock, I play against someone who just tackles me as soon as I get the ball. It is ridiculous. Unless there is some secret to this, it seems no different than FIFA 11 when It comes to assholes online who just seem like they have a cheat on with regards to their tactics. unplayable at times.
I know tactical defending is hard and all, but I swear it improved my defence in real life. It helps you know when to jockey, tackle or just jostle and also keep your eyes on the ball better.

Anybody sick of playing against CPU ? I played against PRO and they freakin' hog the ball when I contain them and they rarely make shots at my goal even when they come close . Sometimes playing against weaker sides their possession can go up to 65% even against my Arsenal or Real Madrid . I changed to legacy defending and it's still as hard to win the ball as tactical defending .
Getting used to it at last but it was a real pain for 30+ games for me. I don't like so much emphasis put on defense though as it seems every game I win is like 1-0.

@LoganBridges Just change defending from tactical to legacy, if you don't know what that is look it up but it's the old defending. It only works for offline though.

In real life you don't just sprint towards someone with your foot stuck out already in a 'tackling state,' you time it. Same thing with this year's FIFA. The shit is more realistic AND for a change requires skill, timing and a footballing brain. If you don't like it, you obviously don't watch football

@eoskol exactly the fucking same, put legendary on just about scraped through my pre season undefeated. Community shield comes up.......got destroyed 8-0 Aguero, tevez, nasri, silva unplayable. Now i'm not against tatical defending i like it online playin UT, but being a regular legendary career mode player this is very challenging. Simply my players (UTD back 4) don't mark up well enough on auto pilot despite having high marking stats, and even when i change player its 2 late and slow to stop

I hope you do realise that playing against the CPU using tactical defending is a big issue for two reasons :
1 - you get scored on because you are not used to it
2 - you can't fucking score because the CPU knows exactly how to deal with it, the CPU will always be great at it, it knows exactly how to use that system, it's not like playing online or against your mate. the CPU rapes you !!! it sucks balls
Tactical defending is great, you actually have to think and engage your brain to defend properly. I don't understand all this negative feedback, did holding 1 button and letting the computer do all the work for you really make you think you were good? If you jockey well, time your tackles, track runs like you should be doing anywhere, defending is just as easy as before.
as a rangers fan i would loved to have seen ibrox and celtic park (two of the best stadiums in the world) in the game, but they give us this tactical defending, which is fucking awful, slows the game down, makes it easier to lose goals, complete shit!

he explains how not to use the Contain\Tackle buttons and fill the gaps in your defense, the style of play is different since you never use the tackle buttons but rely on your A.I. player choices
Tactical defense is terrible, you can't control what you want to do, and 90% of the tackles miss and the rest make faults! It's damn hard to get the ball of the computer even in professional, 1 player is able to get pass your entire team. FIFA 11 so much better!

My Opinion is, THIS SETTINGS ARE 4 PS3 -- remove contain and change it with tackle ok, then put second defence in 'O'. and put contain in L1 WHICH i don't really use as I prefer SPRING WHILE I am defending.

I love it! It really isn't hard at all to get used to, and it gives everyone more of a challenge when playing defense rather than just being able to hold a button and letting the computer do all of the work. I know their are a lot of people who are against it, but once you get used to it, its good!

1.pick formation 5-3-2
2.set everyone up as close to the goals and to each other as possible
3.place one player up on top (preferably Kenwyne Jones or Lukaku)
4.edit formation and set your defence and 'midfield' as defensive as possible(work rate etc.)
5.before the game pick 2 of your midfielders to man mark the strikers so they will always be in line with the defence
.6.in custom tactics make everything zero in the defending section so your team will be narrow and will contain.........

I admit i was ry good at any fifa game etc..fifa11 but fifa12 i find it hard on legendary still, But credits to ea sports cause this tactical defending system makes the game way more realistic, I got a lil mad at the start cause some shit teams would walk the ball like barca/messi into the goal, but u start getting the hang of it and it's more realistic, think about it when watchng a rl football match the players dont just jump into a tackle...It;s precision, full credit to ea sports tbh.

I was having so much trouble at the beginning but i love this new way of defending especially if you are playing against a human and that person has tactical defending too. But it appears that everybody is using the legacy defending Online, that is bullshit, at least you should be able to play only against tactical defenders. I play with all manual except Shooting at Semi and Savings at Auto now playing against Legacy Defenders and Assisted CR7 douche bags is fucking ridiculous.

I can't get used to it. When I think I have it on lock, I play against someone who just tackles me as soon as I get the ball. It is ridiculous. Unless there is some secret to this, it seems no different than FIFA 11 when It comes to assholes online who just seem like they have a cheat on with regards to their tactics. unplayable at times.

I know tactical defending is hard and all, but I swear it improved my defence in real life. It helps you know when to jockey, tackle or just jostle and also keep your eyes on the ball better.
Therefore, tactical defending is realistic and awesome!

Anybody sick of playing against CPU ? I played against PRO and they freakin' hog the ball when I contain them and they rarely make shots at my goal even when they come close . Sometimes playing against weaker sides their possession can go up to 65% even against my Arsenal or Real Madrid . I changed to legacy defending and it's still as hard to win the ball as tactical defending .

In real life you don't just sprint towards someone with your foot stuck out already in a 'tackling state,' you time it. Same thing with this year's FIFA. The shit is more realistic AND for a change requires skill, timing and a footballing brain. If you don't like it, you obviously don't watch football

@eoskol exactly the fucking same, put legendary on just about scraped through my pre season undefeated. Community shield comes up.......got destroyed 8-0 Aguero, tevez, nasri, silva unplayable. Now i'm not against tatical defending i like it online playin UT, but being a regular legendary career mode player this is very challenging. Simply my players (UTD back 4) don't mark up well enough on auto pilot despite having high marking stats, and even when i change player its 2 late and slow to stop

fair enough when i got this game i thought i was ripped off. but eventually you get use to it. every year when a new fifa comes out everyone (and me) get pissed off but you just get use to it, like any other games call of duty for an example. i must admit just thinking about it how easy it was just to tackle so i guess its a good thing to do this and challage us. plus learn the game dont just go online straight away thinking you will win but then leave the game cause your 5-0 down or something!

I hope you do realise that playing against the CPU using tactical defending is a big issue for two reasons :
1 - you get scored on because you are not used to it
2 - you can't fucking score because the CPU knows exactly how to deal with it, the CPU will always be great at it, it knows exactly how to use that system, it's not like playing online or against your mate. the CPU rapes you !!! it sucks balls

Tactical defending is great, you actually have to think and engage your brain to defend properly. I don't understand all this negative feedback, did holding 1 button and letting the computer do all the work for you really make you think you were good? If you jockey well, time your tackles, track runs like you should be doing anywhere, defending is just as easy as before.

he explains how not to use the Contain\Tackle buttons and fill the gaps in your defense, the style of play is different since you never use the tackle buttons but rely on your A.I. player choices

Tactical defense is terrible, you can't control what you want to do, and 90% of the tackles miss and the rest make faults! It's damn hard to get the ball of the computer even in professional, 1 player is able to get pass your entire team. FIFA 11 so much better!

My Opinion is, THIS SETTINGS ARE 4 PS3 -- remove contain and change it with tackle ok, then put second defence in 'O'. and put contain in L1 WHICH i don't really use as I prefer SPRING WHILE I am defending.
THIS IS THE BEST SETTINGS SAME AS FIFA 11 --- FUCK CONTAIN!!!!!!! OBVIOUSLY-- tackle as ussual u have to be quite preccise as u don't want to miss and let the OPonent over run you. but then u can use hockey to get on his face.. ENJOY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I see a lot of people giving their opinions on tactical defending so I figured I would let you guys know what I think of it :)
I love it! It really isn't hard at all to get used to, and it gives everyone more of a challenge when playing defense rather than just being able to hold a button and letting the computer do all of the work. I know their are a lot of people who are against it, but once you get used to it, its good!
