  • what did she mean by : my children not my sister and brother?

  • @pinkbow8888 she thought her children were from her daddy. she found out that her real daddy was dead and that the man she thought was an incestuous relationship, wasn't actually related to her, so her children and her didn't all share the same daddy.

  • @cerrenes thank you!

  • LOL @ Mister not being able to do ANYTHING for his own damn self. Moron

  • A house without a woman is a MEss :D

  • 1:18 it looked like she used ''The Force" on him

  • he die wit a smile of his face

  • I know she was relieved when she found out that old bastard was not really her father. But it still didn't change the fact of what he did to her. And tried to do to Nettie who actually was her real father. Just sickening .

  • People are always asking. Yes, that was Bernie Mac as the waiter who handed the chocolates to Celie on the train.

  • "I'm poor, black, I may even be ugly. But Dear God! I'm Here! I'm Here!" Damn straight. We're all here for a reason. Always put love to the man upstairs, because without him, we wouldn't be here. <3

    you ugly

    you a woman lol

  • women win in the end! yay!

  • The jail you plan for me is the one you're gonna rot in.

    You tell him Celie !

  • @westproductions100 nah. it's like the defensive block Whoopi (as Guinan) uses years later from "Star Trek:The Next Generation" when Q is about to use his powers.

  • I'm kind of mad that they made Celie ride in the trunk of the car though...seriously, hasn't she been through enough?! Give the woman a real seat and make Mary "who-gives-a-damn" (LOL) ride in the trunk--she invited her damn self to tag along anyway, no one asked her to come along and take up the middle seat.

  • @ArmyGF88 Actually if you read the book it tells you differently, if you watch the dinner scene carefully you would notice a special look between Squeak and Shug's husband. :)

  • @ArmyGF88 hahahaha you're so right!!!

  • @ArmyGF88 It's called a rumble seat, dude. Cars in the 1930s and '40s had them.

  • LOLZ she's using the force or something at 1:19

  • 9:35 Anyone else think "Pa's" last wife looked like Nettie or is it just me?

  • 7:54 You can tell how lonely Albert is now and how much he regrets everything.

  • @EvilRootBeer have you read the book? It goes into deeper detail.

  • @Sk8terGaMer89 Yes i have read the book, several times because i own it. :) which is why im not as angry as the ones who didnt read the book. Its one of my favorites actually. :) but what does that have to do with my comments?and which one were you asking about?

  • it's a TAD bit dramatic how they even made the shutters fall off

  • The house almost looks exactly how it did when Celie arrived.

  • Is this guy an idiot. Celie just put a knife to his throat and he's STILL trash talking her. There are no words for that kind of stupidty!

  • who was the girl with the flowers running after the train??

  • i love that old man.Lol "...well we need some stability around here, that's for sure."Lmao he was instigating most of the drama at that dinner table.HAHA

  • 1:18 she used the force

  • Who knows what that small gesture of kindness did for that little girl?

  • Danny Glover. Mannnn his character in the movie. All the actors and actresses played good roles in the movie.

  • @ keishaloveschelsea his so funny lol

  • my favorite part is when the man comes back and says that it was nice meeting all ya'll

  • I don't think Celie is ugly at all.

  • I managed to compose myself all throughout, but Celie making her mind to challenge Mister just broke me down. her courage and strength are amazing. Classic and timeless is this movie.

  • "Get these chickens in the damn coupe, before they lay eggs all over the dame place" lol

  • It sure is nice... you see you two together again

  • Shes not ugly >:[

  • love this crazy black movie

  • old head died fucking...............lol wooooowww!

  • wat if he slap her hands when she did that hand thing and slap her in the face again

one thing i do agreed wit the guy bout is she is ugly lol

  • would someone mind explaining the hand gesture with the mr by the car

  • now why the hell he got a parisol in the rain! lolz stupid drunken idiots.....

  • she should have flipped him off while driving away

  • @iloveyou1997jd what do you think she was doing when she waved? Celie wasn't vulgar, a smile and wave did just as nicely.

  • @cerrenes OH lolz

  • Get them chickens back in the coop before they lay eggs all over the damn place LOL

  • @kendpark yes indeed.

  • MalcolmX: the most abused, the most neglected, the least protected...is the black women.

  • somebody tell me who was that young girl chasing the train? was she the one sittin beside grandpa?

  • @kdolo100 no she was a young poor girl that was chasing the train and somehow she reminded Celie of Netty.

  • @kdolo100 --no the little girl is just some little random girl but Celie has a flash back reminding her of Nettie {im assuming that running along with trains was something they used to do} and it reminded her of herself as a little girl just being free.

at least this is what i got from it lol.

  • I had to slow it down to see Harpo and Sqeak get the hell out of the way LOL!!

  • my favorite part is when adolf says put those chickens back in the coup b4 they lay eggs all over the Damn place lol.

  • 2:40-- The sequence with the young girl chasing the train and Celie watching her (and briefly seeing Nettie at the same age) is gorgeous. And I remember the shot of Whoopi Goldberg throwing the chocolate coins from the train was used tin some of the original promotions back in 1985.

  • Did anyone know that that was Bernice Mac who was the waiter on the train giving Celie the chocolate? Lol.

  • I'm poor, Black , I might even be ugly But dear God I'm here , I'm herrrrreeeeeeeeeeee

  • why is the dad still living how old was he?

    Is that Laurence fishburn

  • why is the dad still living how old was he?

  • @ funeral, why did they have the wife sitting so far back, lol

  • 1:18 DONT IT LOOK LIKE SHE WAS GONNA USE THE MONKEY CLAW ON HIS ASS LOL

  • I was wrong, she had 3 times to kill Mr.______ but each time Mr.________ was lucky.

  • That three fingered eagle claw she threw at mister stopped him in his tracks didnt it....thats a curse for your ass right there man....till you do right by me....oh shit mister go back inside brah,.......

  • How come Celie got older but Nettie never did?

  • with celie, the force is.

  • LMAO i love the guy at the end acting like nothing happened 'its been a pleasure meeting all of use " lol .

  • @wowso4 me too,,I crack up laughing everytime at that man

  • how he die?

on top of me.. very disturbing.. :/

  • @santakellie well, at least he died a happy man

  • @SanDhampir LOL, True , True

  • Put those chickens back in the coup! Lol

  • I know this is a dumb question to ask, but I'm really slow at reading expressions sometimes. When Whoopi asked her step-father's wife how he died. Was she implying it in a abusive way? It just seemed it, cause looking back he wasn't exactly a good-hearted man.

  • @Moonstone2732 I think she meant he was having sex on top of her when he died.

  • @dsrtflwr Yeah,that right.

  • 0:00 - 0:03 contains the greatest laugh in film history! rip Adolph Caesar

  • THE TRAIN WAITER IS LIKE "WTF IS THIS WOMAN DOING??? THROWING AWAY CHOCOLATE LIKE THAT!!!!"

  • RIP Adolph Caesar...Excellent Job!!

  • I was wondering, why did they name it "The Color Purple"? It's a wonderful movie.

  • @Tiabiacha1 color purple is continually equated with suffering and pain, swollen, beaten face.

  • @lettysnchzable Wow, I never thought of it that way. Thank you so much for clearing that for me.

  • @Tiabiacha1 also shug makes a comment about how people can walk by and not notice the color purple in a field

  • @pinrose331 another great point.

  • Yeah, her raising her hand at him; reminded me of when Jesus calmed the storm, "Peace, be still.."

  • "I may be ugly, but I am hear , I am hear"

  • She discovered she had the force at 1:17

  • can u honestly believe..... THATS OPRAAAA lol whoa

  • yep like is aid at the begining of the movie.Danny gunna mess around and get a chicken foot put on him..aint nuthing gunna work she said

  • Everything you've done to me. You already done to you. GOOSEBUMPS!

  • 2:10- The movie could have ended right there and still have had a very positive reaction. Seriously, freeze frame it at 2:11.

  • 1:18 how often i use that hand motion is untrue lol

  • @THEALMIGHTYCHOSEN12wow you are super angry and over what i really cant stand when black people talk all that shit to whites because of what happened hundreds of years ago im not say forget...im saying forgive and get over it and i feel as a black women its ignorant to hate people for something that happened so long ago and the use the bible in their little argument...thats crazy

  • @msmclaurin1 just ignor that person

  • @msmclaurin1 THERE IS NO FORGIVING.THATS LIKE THE SHEEP FORGIVING THE WOLF.

  • SOMEBODY TELL ME THE MEANING OF HER RAISING HER HAND AT 1:18.

  • @kdolo100 theres no real reason, its just like a showing of her empowerment

  • @kdolo100 That raise of her hand is similar to the way Jesus Christ raise it to forgive sinners...don't you think?

  • @saritamiel85 I THOUGHT IT WAS SOMETHING LIKE WITCHCRAFT OR SOMETHING.LOOK AT HIS EYES,LMAO! HE STOPS IN HIS TRACKS.

  • 3 people might not understand the meaning of life.....

  • love it

  • i cried at the begining

what Sophia said don't trade places he ain't worth it.

    Celi your black and beautiful

  • we need some stability around here...

  • @plugged1 Lmbo!

  • Did everyone notice that Laurence Fishburne was playing the guitar at the club?

  • I love the scene where the little gir isl running and Celie see's nessie! Makes me cry every time lol :)

  • 1:40" im poor , black ,i may even be ugly but dear god im here, im here!!' love tht sayin

  • The bit where she puts her hand out makes me crack up xDDD

  • "Who you think you is, you can't curse nobody, look at you, your black, your poor, your ulgy, your a woman, your nothin at all!!!"

  • "Everything you done to me, already done to you" 1:19 - 1:33. CHECKMATE, MR!! To me, this is the most profound movie line. Whoopi kills it!

  • @7SoulDeep7 Right and when he said you'll be back, he was right. She did come back, but she came back as an entreprenuer and an independent woman, while he became a lazy drunk who was left outstanding in the cold

  • Shug's husband was great. After that dramatic dinner scene he said "Pleasure to meet you all"My sister and I cracked up.He is never going to a family dinner again!!

  • Yeah Ladymodel, well at least Albert made some new friends lol!

  • 1:19

    "I'm gonna knock you-"

    *her hand*

Don't you make me go JEDI on your ass, fool.

  • Mister's dad reminds me of George Jefferson by the way he walks and his personality.

  • Celie was ready to cut his ass! Get it girl!

  • was that celie's sister? the girl who was runnin after the train???????? some1 tell me please! I LOVE THIS MOVIE IT MADE ME CRY :')

  • @shadowwhisper24 celie sort of pretended/hallucenated that it was her sister (in the white dress) but it was actually just the random girl that we see last

  • @jazwaz112 thx :)))

  • @shadowwhisper24 no she just envisioned that kid running as her sister

  • 0:05 his ugly fat lip ass lol

  • Whoo! Look at Miss Celie sippin' champagne :P Heartfelt and empowering this movie...

  • i love whoopi, she"s amazing...!! i love the themes in this film; absolutely love it.

  • 1:17, that bit made me LOL because it looks like Celie is using the force :P

  • now why did her sister remain the same character ? instead of growing up like Celies character changed

  • @WorldofNene oh nvm

  • @WorldofNene : Nettie did change didn't you see her at the end of the movie...

When Celie was reading Nettie's letters she saw the events of her sister's life take place from the descriptions in the letter. However, the last time she saw her sister was when she was a little girll in that white dress...so in her minds eyes that's they way her sister looks to her all those years.......it's so symbolice....absolutely beautiful. Spleiberg is a genius!!!

  • "Well, I guess I done raised you wrong" Lol He surely did "raised him wrong" both him and Mister are pitiful.

  • She cursed his ass!

  • I don't get the part when he was about to hit her and she said something about she done everything he done to her with the fingers. Can someone please explain.

  • @lolchick001 its like u reap what you sew, that basicly means everything that youve done wrong is gonna come back to haunt u, like carma. you get it?

  • @MsJustSmile1995 oh okay thank you

  • This is a great movie its very spititual but what was with her @1:19 she got some kind of Mewtwo fingers or somthing aha!?

  • she was cursing him

  • If someone would know back than how famous the actors will be :D

    ( Whoopie , Oprah , Danny , Laurence Fishburne )

  • Whoopie and Danny Glover are so amazin actors. God Damn :)

  • this movie is about the empowerment of colored women

  • Or courage.. one or the other.

  • I wonder why it's called The Color Purple... maybe because the color of bruises?

  • @jeremyjealousy I heard that it was called that because of the color of Celie's privates (the sexual abuse) and the color Sofia turned when she was beaten.

  • @lolchick001 no...in the book it's because Shug tells Celie that she thinks God gets angry if you walk past the color purple in a field without noticing it.

  • @jeremyjealousy Royalty.

  • why did she not win an oscar!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! who ever won that award back then had to had paid for it , because this was a very empowering movie that touches gernerations after generations.

  • @pookie15k : Had to be...... Whoopi should had gotten that oscar... the judges were smoking something pretty strong....

when i first saw this movie i hadn't read the book yet and I thought it was the best movie i ever saw. Then i read the book and I have a whoole new appreication of this movie....it's a classic among classic and if anyone haasn't read the book they need to do so. The movie is already good but it still dones't do the book justice.

  • @ 6:39-"Get these chickens back in the coop for they lay eggs all over the da-n place!!" I couldn't stop laughing LOL

  • i don't understand the metaphor of the gold coins.

  • @wattever333

    HOPE

  • To this day I cannot STAND Danny Glover! LMAO
