  • the first time i heard this song it brought me tears of joy. it still does sometimes.

  • Hey, Christine's actress, That's her real voice, right?

  • @ReveChanson indeed it is.

  • ive seen Phantom a dozens times and i just remembered this song when Adele's "Someone Like You" was on the radio today. This song is much lovier but they have the same concept. A relationship has ended but even if it was turmoil, we want that person to remember us in the better times.

  • ive always loved this song :)

  • NL het is mooi !!!

  • "BravO," Raoul? I think not! Even the owners of the theatre who were previously in the junk met- i mean scrap meatl business got it right!!! It's "BravA" silly boy.

  • @garthtater41 They need "bravo" to rhyme with "long ago" .... otherwise it would not work....

  • @LivingEachSecond i know... hahah i just think that it was too much in contrast when the other people said it right... thats just me being picky....

  • Hey guys! I decided to collect brilliant and uncommon songs for auditions, any song suggestions?

  • i fucking love this song and this goddamn movie

  • "that Patrick dude." LOL, i looove Patrick Wilson!

  • I fell in love in Gerry as Phantom!

  • im only here coz chris brown last time together samples this

  • Brava!!! MAGNIFICA!!!!!!!!!! STUPENDA!!!!!!!!! this is a really great version of this song!:D

  • I think her version is the best of this song.

I like her voice so much.

    What a lovely!!!

  • 202 PPL ARE CRAZY :O

  • @MiztaSi Its called awesome! :)

  • @SLfalslev Agreed.

  • What's this style of singing called??

    3:25

  • @MiztaSi She's just doing scales, its not really called anything.

  • @acc105103 Ah, fair one. Thanks.

  • @MiztaSi You could call it melisma, when multiple notes are sung to one syllable. The style would be called "melismatic"

  • Two hundred dislikes? Thanks, Erik!

  • heart attack at 3:40 much!

  • like if you think she should have been with erik D:<

  • My favorite in this movie3

  • i think she's a better christine than sarah brightman, to be honest

  • I always get angry during Raoul's part. The first thing that runs through my mind is "Oh, NOW you notice her after they've put her in a dress!"

    Bugs me . . . ah well

  • I remember hearing this in the Venetian hotel elevator

  • 2:06

    ouch.

  • Emmy's voice is way too thin and airy for this role, you can her struggle with the notes and she lacks vibrato. don't even get me started on the phantom.

  • @OperaGirl1994 hey guess what? you're not a 5 star famous opera singer so stick that in your pipe and smoke it.

  • Comment removed

  • @13thereadyset

Guess what! I CAN ACTUALLY SING OPERA! and I am entitled to my own opinions.

  • @OperaGirl1994 i'm entitled to my own opinions too. and my opinion is that you're probably the only one that thinks you can sing opera. probably the kind of suckish high pitched opera that la carlotta sings in the phantom of the opera. and you know what happened to her right? she got replaced by a better singer. and you're not the one that got to sing in a world famous classic movie like this one. boo hoo.

  • @13thereadyset

I am sorry if I had offended you, and I do study voice. so Please can we make amends? But I think Emmy is a heck of a lot better than Sarah Brightman.

  • @OperaGirl1994 I know right? I study voice and shes between modern and opera.....its an opera song for god sake....seriously?

  • @OperaGirl1994 Well she shings amazing and she is perfect for this movie. Your are jealous.

  • Her voice is too thin and vibrato.

  • one of my favourite movies of all time! i just love everything about it, the story (i read the book first), the performances and ouf course the music!!!

  • you know you love this song if you try and sing it in the shower........try

  • I will always love Phantom of the Opera. STUPENDA

  • whats this song about?

  • Gives me chills..

  • its 2004 not 2005

  • Ha ha, when Raoul's walking down the stairs, he looks like a penguin. ha ha. I love the music though.:)

  • All of the "Phantom of the opera" songs are beautiful eerie and goose-bumpy

    Thums up

  • my favorite song ever.

  • This song makes me happy :)

  • @nothingmore4295 its not opera music:D The original french story, La Phantom de L'Opera, was about an opera theatre, hence the title, but the music in the film is classical, not opera music - they're different styles. And I agree - I love this film to pieces, but i don't really like opera music much...

  • awesome!

  • I love being able to sing this perfectly. <3

  • @MandaDunnno Thats what all those Idol contestants say before they end up amusing me on youtube for years to come with their down right awful renditions of classic songs...

  • @MrDanielHawes I would usually agree but I do THIS kind of music for warm ups. (:

  • @MandaDunnno and i do THIS kind of music to break all of the glass in my house and to make my friends sleepy <3 xD

  • Wow.This is why i love broadway!! <333 ;D

  • i love it and i can't believe that were singing this in my choir class

  • Andrew Lloyd Webber: It's an opera within an opera

Leo DiCaprio: No, we need to go deeper

  • @firehound100 OPERACEPTION!!!

  • Christine is super duper uper good at singing! dang, she can sing soprano and alto good, AMAZING :D

  • I LOVE that stage. it's SO beautiful.

  • I have a friend who sounds just like her!!! I love this song sooooo much! <3

    -Dana

  • My mom took me to see this when I was little. I remember I got to skip school and I LOVED IT!! Now that I'm in highschool, our band is playing parts of the songs from the opera and I just sit there and sing when it's not my turn to play... Everyone looks at me wierd, but hey! this is an amazing opera!!

  • @KazzyRazzy I love it too! We're gonna play it, and I bet I do the same thing... :)

  • for some reason, from all versions i heard, this one is my favorite... her voice is just amazing

  • My ex was obessed w/ this song.....its okay for a girl but guys really :P

  • @SavannahBieberful You'd better make a good sandwich then.

  • @saveltoros f u

  • "With a cameo by that Patrick dude." LOOOOL!

  • Thumps up. I like this and satanic black metal.

  • @Metalmack95 How does that work? :)

  • @LiltedLullaby Hehe its works fine :D

  • absoloutley amazing... <3 i have a friend that sings opera and shes just such a big fan of this song..................she,,,,,,,is amazing!!!

  • im jumped at the high note at the end! SO AMAZING! :)

  • She and Sarah Brightman are incomparable. The actual stage production opera in a style close to Pavarotti and the movie is sort of a Josh Groban style of opera (meaning more pop than actual opera). Emmy is still a great singer though, but Sarah is a legend.

  • Wow, what a voice Emmy Rosum has!

  • beautiful song, amazing film

  • Thumbs up if Jackie Evancho brouth you here !

  • Sophie Plummer can sing this brilliantly! Check her version out on one2plum.

  • I wish they showed how in the beginning she was really nervous and scared to sing like it was written for the musical. since she's never taken the lead role before, I feel like her starting off nervous is more real.

  • wow

  • I like her voice also morethan Sarah! For me her voice is mre pleasant to listen to! Hers for me is very calm and and its not tiring to listen to unlike the other operas!

  • I'm sorry, but the dubbing for this movie was terrible. I know that the process for film musicals is to record the singing ahead of time and then lip sync during filming, but she just looks so vapid through the entirety of the song, almost high. Disney animatronics have more emotion. The movie is alright, but nothing can surpass seeing the musical live.

  • i love the movie and music and characters!!!!

  • I love this !! It's great!!

  • This was uploaded on my birthday! :D

Besides that, this is my favorite song in the opera.

  • I like how the movie starts with a goodbye (and of course, the pretty song)

  • 195 people are jealous of emmy rossum

  • I can't believe she was in the live action Dragonball movie... : /

  • this reminds me of my dear friend... he told me to think of this song and I will think of him.

  • For those who think this is opera, it is not. It is musical theatre. Not taking away from the performance, just calling it the proper term. Thank you.

  • @azoressinger It is light opera. Proper term.

  • 2:36 'Can it be, can it be Christine? Bravo!'

  • 3:38 Best Part.....wow....

  • It's weird.. I (normally) despise opera music. But I've been obsessed with Phantom of the Opera for years.

  • @nothingmore4295 that's because it is written for broadway and has a less harsh tone...

  • @nothingmore4295 im the same

  • @nothingmore4295 That's probably because none of this is actual opera music, but it is really gorgeous!

  • @nothingmore4295 This is not opera. This is music theatre.

  • this is just so darn amazing<3

  • I'm singing this song and I've only been singing for a month. That high note at the end is going to be the death of me

  • @ladybarbieharp Here are some tips if you want them. First, to get that note you should probably sing in your head voice. Second, breath so you can get the air to give strength to that high note. Third, relax. Enjoy the song :)

  • His name is Patrick Wilson and he's amazing^^

  • i hate how people say people say sarah is christine wen actually although she was the first to portay it in the musical the character wasnt made for her it already existed. besides i feel emmy shows more compassion and innocence whereas sarah although and amazing singer i could never see it in her face.

  • earth-shatteringly beautiful. this woman would make helan of troy blush

  • Amo la canción y me gusta la película :D

  • team erik<3

  • haha at 3:30 if you look closely you can see the gum in her mouth!

  • Like this if Jackie Evancho brought you here

  • shes beutifal :)

  • i hate raul !!!!!!!!

  • Fuck Team Edward and Team Jacob, I'm going with Team Erik and Ruoal. (team Erik BTW)

  • @PirateRagettiLove Woop I'm Team Erik Too :D

    Katie :~)

  • me-*replay replay replay replay* Mom-would you turn that down?!?!?! me-but mom it's phantom of the opera mom-kids and their opera music these days *mom shakes her head*

  • me-*replay replay replay replay* Mom-would you turn that down?!?!?! me-but mom it's phantom of the opera mom-kids and their opera music these days

  • Carlottas was funny (: it was.....harsh.

  • Does anyone know if Christine had to perform this the night that Carlotta quit? The same night? And how long was it after music of the night to il muto? Months I'm assuming.

  • @MissMercedes2

i've always assumed it was the same night.

  • Emmy rossom looks like jennifer garner

  • OMG :) this is amazing -3 I had never seen or listened to "Phantom of the Opera" until today. Yesterday I was at my friend's high school graduation ceremony and my best friend's older sister (who graduated yesterday) sang this right at the end of the ceremony. It was so fantastic that at the first high note, everyone gave Alieke (the girl singing) a standing ovation thinking it was finished :O but no...she came back and carried on singing even more amazingly knowing she had the 500 strong crowd

  • it was 2004 not 2005 ! i love this song!!=)<3

  • 193 pepole hate phantoms and angels

  • normally I never listen to opera... but this really beautiful

  • Nice to see they have a troll counter now

  • when i first saw this movie, i swore in the end, while the two of them fighting in combat, raoul and the phantom would by accidentally kill christine

  • Team Erik

  • That voice rcks!!

  • Is it bad that I like her voice more than Sarah Brightman's?

  • @omfgchapstick lol it's ok, you can like either.

  • @omfgchapstick yea i do to like her voice better than shara brightmans

  • @omfgchapstick its not bad..they both have their own style and shit so no...listen to sarah brightman in repo! the genetic opera...shes great then.

  • @omfgchapstick No, I like her better too, but I like Michael Crawford better than Gerry. So yeah, that's not bad.

  • @omfgchapstick No, although it seems but Emmy Rossum is the singing:)

  • @omfgchapstick No it's not bad that you like Emmy's voice more than Sara Brightman's because I like Emmy's more than Katie Hall's voice and everybody has their own opinions

  • @omfgchapstick hahaha thinkining well hes more beautiful and his voice is more cute than the voice of Sarah n_n

  • @omfgchapstick no not at all every1 has there own taste, i like sarah cuz she is raw talent and i like emmy cuz she adds alil something to it

  • @omfgchapstick Not at all. I think it's more pleasant to listen to and that it sounds more "real". It doesn't sound all stiff like opera does. I find if it sounds too stiff it lacks true emotion.

  • @omfgchapstick I totally agree with you. Her voice is stronger than Sarah Brightmans. The girl who played in in the 25 anniversary one (also played ariel on broadway) is good too.

  • @omfgchapstick idk....there are definately some really great things about her voice and it's understandable. But personaly, Sarah Brightman will always be the one true Christine to me. I really love her voice. :)

  • 193 people dont have an angle of music!!!

  • by that patrick dude! Bahaha!

  • raoul<3

  • TWENTY THOUSAND FRANCS?!

  • I want to see this sooo bad!

  • @linklover67 it's the best move ever in the whole world!!!!!!

  • my class watched this today and i can honestly admit i cryed at this part and the whole movie cause its so beautiful-3

  • 193 people cant hit the high notes like Christine!

  • yeah who wouldn't pick the phantom?!

  • BAHAHA We did this as our school musical this year~ Oh how I love my school! (I got to play the piano part, this song was interesting, to say the least)

  • My highschool's marching band's covering this :) so pretty <3

  • "Can it be, can it be Christine?" BUM BUM BUM BA BUM!!!

  • She's so beautiful I'm completely jealous

  • @davidjoe22 and she was only 16 at the time

  • My teacher is having me learn this for my lessons

  • I watched this in muisc today yeah 3 1/2 more days of school

  • to whoever made this video.... it came out in 2004 not 2005

  • Really loved this movie and I still do! How can such a movie be so magical?!!!

  • She is awesome....

  • Eh... The Phantom of the Opera is a 2004 movie. Not 2005

  • 2:28 The Phantom of the opera is there (-}.-)

  • @RedRosesLast4eva I loved this comment. <3 :DD

  • @RedRosesLast4eva i dont want to destroy the 69 by liking so *like*

  • it's hard to believe that she plays on shameless now........she should be doing better things lol. But shameless is a pretty bad ass show.

  • I LOVE THIS SONG, but my brother doesn't let me sing it. Next year im going to audition for Australia got talent and sing this!!!

  • Raoul says Bravo, because he's an ignorant fuckwit. The Phantom says Brava, Brava, Bravissima correctly later.

On the other hand, I thought Patrick's singing in this clip was absolutely lovely.

  • gorgeous, she is just beautiful. her singing is too shrill on the high notes though! it's an awkward shift from different registers, they didn't give her enough time to train and she did her best, oh well.

  • apparently emmy rossum is supposed to be chewing gum here. and if you look really closely at her mouth when it does a close up on her you can see something white in her mouth....

  • lol magnifico..stupenda...shutupa! LOL
