  • Slughorn- James Buchanan

  • poof

  • So... his former star student kills his later star student, who is the mother of his newest star student, who is the enemy of his former star student?

  • Poof

  • I couldn't enjoy that much the whole thing about the fish and lily, because is like it's not real hahaha because is not in the book.

  • one of the best scenes to have ever come out of the harry potter franchise

  • Why this Slughorn not fat

  • "Poof"

  • Two people are Voldemort fan boys.

  • How can anyone NOT laugh at Hagrid passing out?^^

  • Slughorn is the best teacher (with Lupin and Mcgonagall) EVER ! I mean he's so funny. And so kind. I loved when he said "Harry" with a little voice at the end of the last one.

  • It's impossible But I want to have Snape in this scene...I want to know how he was when Horace said something about Lily Evans to Harry.

  • OMG I WOULD DIE TO SEE MY TEACHERS DRUNK...OR PASSED OUT ON THAT MATTER,

  • They are so high.

  • Would memories be reliable if you were drunk?

  • @MaskedManMike

    He's magic.

  • The day he came down stairs when the bowl was empty, was the year he retired. Connection, anyone???

  • I love Hagrid!

  • perfect.. simply perfect.

  • everyone loves lily, she's the most tender person in all the series, and she ain't a mary sue like ginny

  • Poof

  • I love it when Harry just slowly reaches down and steadies Slughorn's shaking hand. So much going on in this scene, it's amazing.

  • Amazing acting, writing, and direction. Overall, one of the all-time great scenes in the series.

  • Professor Slughorn was brave like Lily

  • And his wand

    Snapped in two

    Which was saaaaaaaaaaad!

    Clap clap clap clap clap

    hahaha

  • I once had a fish!

  • You're a good boy," said Professor Slughorn, tears trickling down his fat cheeks into his walrus mustache. "And you've got her eyes… Just don't think too badly of me once you've seen it…"

And he too put his head on his arms, gave a deep sigh, and fell asleep.

One of the 5 top moments of the whole book series.

  • I love Lily! Most underrated character in the Harry Potter world? I think yes.

  • POOF

  • Broadbent is fantastic as slughorn!

  • beautiful thank you for posting. i cant believe its over

  • But thats LIFE ... I suppose

  • this part always makes me laugh and cry it's just so funny lol:) and sad:'(

  • the song is Slughorn's Confession

  • WHAT IS THE SONG CALLED??

  • best scene EVER!

  • whats the soundtrack?

  • I LOVE this scene! So powerful!

  • Lilly the best mother ever <3

  • this part is warm to me. harry is so good, no, perfect!!! <3 love it

  • "be brave, professor. Be brave like my mother. Otherwise, you disgrace her. Otherwise, she died for nothing." i love it

  • I like the story of the fish, it was a nice touch on the part of the film makers. I just love the way Lily is a kind of benign presence in the background all the way throughout the books. The way she still influences the living - Harry, Slughorn, Snape... This scene plays into that theme.

  • this scene still brings tears to my eyes

  • @LincolnPower27 same for me...everytime i watch it :'(

  • my favorite scene from this movie. so touching. and the acting so terrific. i also love the story slughorn tells, i love it so much in fact that when i won a goldfish on a fair two days ago i decided to name it Francis. i just think its a perfect name for a fish and it honours my love for harry potter :)

  • who ever plays slughorn nails this scene

  • @soxnation3419 couldnt agree more

  • @soxnation3419 Slughorn is played by Jim Broadbent...

  • puff...

  • Harry looked like a kid, siting on that chair and claping his hands xD

  • the one person who didn't click the like button was Hagrid.... only coz he missed such an awesome part!

  • lol harry clapping

  • Really touching scene. Jim Broadbent is such a fine actor.

I find it fascinating how these respectable wizards would show great appreciation to the wizarding greats regardless of how evil they are or would become. Ollivander comes to mind as well. Even the Sorting Hat recognizes where greatness lies, inspite of morality.

  • @woodyuniverse That is a dog that is really fluffy and could be held under one arm of the average five year old.

  • You did the right thing, Horace.

  • @4thtroika Only because he was drunk.

  • I love this scene not just because it was so emotional, it will prove to anyone that being Slytherin doesn't equate to being"evil". And for the record, Hufflepuff has its own strong points too.

  • LOL the bit when hagrids head hits the wall is so funny its like "BANG knocked out"

  • 0:08 hagrid looks like that huge mummet the big blue scary 1

  • poof XD ! Amazing :P

  • Honestly I prefer this scene over the book's version. I feel there really is just much more emotion with it. The whole fish story is kinda touching and sad and it really adds more depth to Slughorn's relationship with Lily Evans. This was definately one of the better of the movies.

  • @TheInstantClassic1 i know what you mean

  • @TheInstantClassic1 Better emotionally yes. But I hate how they left out some memories needed visiting and the battle in the tower

  • @TheInstantClassic1 I agree.

  • @TheInstantClassic1 is the story of the fish in the book?

  • Harry helping Slughorn get the memory into the beaker was very touching

  • awwwww this always makes me wana give someone a hug lol

  • @LordAntWarrior. Snape was justified to be pissed at James, but not Harry, he's a kid who had no idea what went on, just because Harry is the son of James, children shouldn't be punished over what their parents did.

  • Why is Slughorn's forehead pale, yet the rest of his face looks tannish? haha

  • does anyone know what is the name of the song playing while Harry begins to talk about his mother? 2:02

  • @Fader33 It's called "Slughorn's Confession". It's Track #21 on the HBP soundtrack.

  • @punkinnugget Thank you! :)

  • @Fader33 No problem!

  • Harry's speech is so powerful in this! One of the best scenes from Harry Potter.

  • Thank you so much for posting this - I've been looking all over for this scene - one of my favorites!

  • this scene was actually way better in the movie than the book

  • @SolidGold1980 I agree, this is one of the few scenes I think is much better than it's book-counterpart. The emotion in this scene is fantastic, the music, everything.

I also quite enjoyed the Burrow scene in the middle of this film, with the Death Eaters, which wasn't in the book altogether, but it was so well-done that I didn't really care that it wasn't faithful.

  • i love his expression to when harry says the bowl will be empty forever, he is like nooo!!! XD, but this scene made me cry at the midnight premiere

  • the beginning is so funny, but it's so sad. his story, i mean.

  • "And suddenly...poof."

    "Poof."

"Poof." Lmao, Harry looks like he saw the light.

  • Whenever Slughorn tells the story with the fish i start crying...its so saaaaaaad :'(

  • Hahahaha, oh god, Harry just sits there and watch ehm sing, bahahahahaha!!!

  • poor professor slughorn, he shouldnt blame himself no one knew he would turn into "He Who Must Not Be Named'

  • @ThatGEEKChanel agreed. He didnt know at the time

  • ... and then suddenly POOF! rofl :)

  • BUT THAT'S LIFE!

  • what the fuck is this! seriously

  • This is the only part of this movie that made me cry.

    *sniff* Oh that metaphor.

  • great work...! does anyone know the title of the song in the beggining?

  • @MrSevereful odo the hero

  • @dihardtwihard123 Thank you! :D

  • Harry's mother was such a beautiful woman who touched everyone, lol, even Severus Snape! I'm glad his father grew up later on, though.

  • @mckfrr I wasn't keen on the James character in his early years either- Snape is partially justified for his demeanour and outlook on life and the way he treats Harry. I actually feel more sympathy for the Snape character than James'.

  • Its so "weird" how hagrid isnt the same these days. like he isnt the same as he was on the first harry potter movies if u know what i mean. like back then he had a bigger part on the movies.

  • @Ycampus That's kind of how it was in the books- with the trio not taking his subject Care of Magical Creatures at O.W.L level; subsequently fewer scenes involving Hagrid were needed.

  • @LordAntWarrior Oh ok. But everyone has pretty much changed, but I guess that everyone was supposed to change, when they changed in the books right :D. But in the movies it just happens so fast like when theres different directors things aren't the same as they were in previous movies, like the spell "expecto patronum" was just like light in the 4th movie, but in the 5th movie there were these animals that were running everywhere :D.

  • @Ycampus

It was always animals. In Prisoner of Azkaban Harry's patronus was a deer.

  • @Baldenlong77 well yeah but in the movies the deer didnt like come out of harrys wand you know. i actually found it out my self already. but you know it was only this shield.

  • Jim Broadbent is amazing. He made that work so well.

  • My personal favorite scene in this movie. Harry uses such powerful emotion!

  • This esce is of my favorite because without Slughorn's's confession not habria there thrills d ederrotar to voldemort one of my preferred ones undoubtedly.

  • one of the good scene in Harry potter
