I agree with you, and that is the major down fall with the death penalty in the past, but I think it needs to be tweeked and a person should only be executed if their is DNA, or biological evidence, or their is a video tape linking the suspect to the crime or a video taped confession. Think of all those poor people who have been blatantly murdered by a REPEAT offender who should've just been put on death row in the first place! Interesting how these death penalty proponents seem to gloss over the one glaring flaw in their thinking. Forget about the religious or the moral reasons. The one thing that I assume all people would agree is that executing an innocent person would be unacceptable. The fact that innocent people are released from prison is a testament to the fallibility of this (or any) justice system.
Why would you ever support paying for prisoners to serve life sentences? If they are murders, child mollesters, cop killers etc, why should we pay to keep them alive in prison? My ONLY problem with the Texas Justice System is that is is TOO SLOW!!! It should be, Crime, Trial, Sentence, Retrial, Sentence, Death... a total of 3 months max. @KellyVestal There's quite a bit of evidence that he executed an innocent man in 2004. That's why it can be tricky just to say "Yes! Execute criminals!" Of course, the vast majority of people executed are hands down, without a shadow of a doubt guilty of the crime they are accused of....but not ALL and I don't want that kind of blood on my hands. But make sure to check the credibility of them, as some may be biased. The first website gives you studies that show evidence for both sides. However, when I searched, I found that there were significantly more studies that showed that death penalty costs more than life in prison. There will be explanations too.

Texas is also notorious for executing the most amount of people who either didn't commit the crime or there wasn't sufficient evidence to prove that they premeditated a murder. Execution is wrong, if you kill a killer, that makes you a killer (especially if you kill a truly innocent man). Charles Manson is rotting in prison, right where he deserves to be.
I don't see how punishing someone who has killed by killing them does anything but sate a blood lust. I can't see the difference between a man killing a man and the state killing a man. @GoldBanks60 actually I did some research and found out that states which carry the death penalty have on average a higher homicide rate then those without death penalty. In many European nations, they don't have any "death penalty" just life imprisonment but they have a lower murder rate.
Capital punishment doesn't necessarily lower murder rates. Many factors apply including how fire arms are distributed, how people are taught, etc etc. I'm a moderate too.

That's a good three times as much as keeping someone in for life. My ONLY problem with the Texas Justice System is that is is TOO SLOW!!! It should be, Crime, Trial, Sentence, Retrial, Sentence, Death... a total of 3 months max. Save the burdon on the tax payers and families. The medications for lethal injection is much cheaper than housing for scum of the earth.

@KellyVestal There's quite a bit of evidence that he executed an innocent man in 2004. That's why it can be tricky just to say "Yes! Execute criminals!" Of course, the vast majority of people executed are hands down, without a shadow of a doubt guilty of the crime they are accused of....but not ALL and I don't want that kind of blood on my hands. It would def keep ME up at night if I knew that I had sent an innocent person to their death.

But make sure to check the credibility of them, as some may be biased. The first website gives you studies that show evidence for both sides. However, when I searched, I found that there were significantly more studies that showed that death penalty costs more than life in prison. There will be explanations too.

Texas is also notorious for executing the most amount of people who either didn't commit the crime or there wasn't sufficient evidence to prove that they premeditated a murder. @GoldBanks60 actually I did some research and found out that states which carry the death penalty have on average a higher homicide rate then those without death penalty. In many European nations, they don't have any "death penalty" just life imprisonment but they have a lower murder rate.
Capital punishment doesn't necessarily lower murder rates. Many factors apply including how fire arms are distributed, how people are taught, etc etc. I'm a moderate too.

That's a good three times as much as keeping someone in for life. I'll money bet that 40+ years in a tiny 5x5 cell with nothing to do and always being on guard against your fellow inmates who to kill you is a much greater hell. BTW, Dahmer wasn't executed by the state. He was murdered.

Rick Perry and those who cheered are no better than the person who is being executed. Killing is killing no matter how you try to justify it. Killing is killing. You cannot deny it. Those who deny it are evil. This is how the good identify evil. So now the killer is bringing more people down with him. All the way from the court room to the people watching in the death chamber and all inside the chamber.

@Packerd01 Texas executed "Peter Cantu" a little while ago. If any of you don't support the death penalty you should read up on him. He and his gang had to die. They lived on death row longer than the two victims were alive.

@josephseven The death penalty is an easy out. They know how and when they are going to die. Very few of us have that luxury. On top of that it's an easy death comparatively. Not to mention if they get the wrong guy, it's unreversable.

I'm so glad you all are talking about this. Could you talk more about Troy Davis who is scheduled to be executed in Georgia in less than 2 days? There's also ample evidence that he is innocent and we have to do what we can to keep the needle out of his arm.

does anybody remember when DNA first came out and they had to throw out in some states as much as 40% of the death penality cases and it lead to some states putting a moritorium on the death penality
