  • love hi hat sound

  • this is not reggae at all!

  • Muito bom! admiro este baterista...

  • deff not roots reggae

  • jealous.

  • toooooooooo siiiickkkkkkk man LOVE THAT

  • @NutterBuff Carter Beauford is ambidextrous. He used to practice by emulating the drumming he saw on tv in front of a mirror, which is why he plays left-hand lead on a right hand kit.

  • just out of curiosity: Does anyone knows if he is left-handed?

  • @NutterBuff no hes not he play open to do a lot of things

  • If you like reggae, reggaeton, or dancehall music, "reggaelinx website"is an awesome site for you.

  • Have you seen "reggaelinx website"it is like YouTube for reggae videos. It is so much easier to find and play reggae videos.

  • He's unbeliveable! We can see how drums can make a music shine when we listen to players like carter and steve jordan! Those guys really know how to do it

  • hee nooo play reggae!!

  • It's his take on what he has got out of listening to reg. And loving Stewart copeland and sates in the video that it has some what of a reg feel but is improvised to fit the actual song. In no way is he saying here is a beat for reg if u want to learn how to play reg. And actually some reg is very busy like that.

  • soo........... sweeeeeeeettttttttttt

  • Carter is so cool. :)

    RIP LeRoi.

  • too bad thats not reggae really.....thats a bouncy feel with a sort of one drop.....but not really.....

  • @reggaecracker I thought reggae was more so about feel than it was about a regimented rhythm.

  • @phaethon1988 it is!!..but he aint play'n roots feel......listen to bob marley, any song, take song "One Drop" and you'll see what i mean..way different feel, and riddim...not just tempo...carter good playa, but he says himelf..that "kind of improvised kind of thing with this reggae groove.." he real good drumma, just listen to bob and you'll see...much bless

  • @phaethon1988 it is!!..but he aint play'n roots feel......listen to bob marley, any song, take song "One Drop" and you'll see what i mean..way different feel, and riddim...not just tempo...carter good playa, but he says himself..that "kind of improvised kind of thing, with this reggae groove.." he real good drumma, just listen to bob and you'll see...much bless

  • sweet!!

  • Yea slowing it down doesn't help..this guys good

  • Tiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiight and so smooth Oo

  • it needs a more lax feel to be reggae. i feel like the only time carter ever over does is when he plays reggae. everybody has a weakness though. im not hating he is hella good but im not feeling this.

  • ,am this guy is sooooooooooooooooooooo fuck great

  • Grosso!

  • 1:30 :O

  • fuck you carter, youre such and asshole with all your talent and whatnot.... god dammit i love this dude

  • Is this on the "Under the Table and Dreaming" DVD?

  • @2znmartin5 "Under the Table and Drumming"

  • sooooooo sexy

  • RIP LeRoi Moore :,[

  • Yes I Guidence Rasta

  • clean hit!!!!

  • bess

  • RIP Leroi

  • what the name of the song that they r playing live with the fluth?

  • @rafi2212 #41...jam session

  • @rafi2212 # 41

  • does someone can help me please? what the name of the song that they r playing live with the fluth in this video?

thanks a lot, and also chek gil sharon reggae groove, i think that he is a much better...!

  • Comment removed

  • @outernational I concur..it's not garbage, but it's not reggae. So we'll call it Reg-garage and he even states "it's improvised"

  • @outernational who put you in charge of defining what reggae is and isn't?

  • @pbgangsta Sister Nancy did

  • @outernational Garbage is a bit overdone. I agree Gil Sharone is the master in reggae :-)

  • C'mon, this is not reggae. Cross stick/bass drum on 1 and 3 does not reggae make. It takes a little more than that. There is very little reggae feel here by Beauford or the music.

  • @jpsartre000 that was his style of improvising raggae n the groove dude....u even hear music dude...?uurrggghhh...i bet if bob marley still alive,he would agree to carter beaufort...

  • @jpsartre000 i agree there is no feeling its just empty beats and cross sticking

  • Imagine being so talented in so many styles that like this guy? Me niether ohhh...... I suck at life

  • @not25yet A student of reggae... but he is a master drummer.. You can not deny that he is a master. But his Jazz influence overpowers his attempt at a true reggae rhythm.

  • The song is #41

  • what is the name of the song that comes on in the middle? its extremley nice with carter on the set!!

  • is inner clock was impeccable!!!!

  • Thanks! Your Amazing!

  • carter is the mannn. the first part sounds so much like company sin by john butler trio

  • Phil Rudd is better

  • @GoGoNards good thing we have you to rank things.

  • @GoGoNards Hmmm, I don't really like this childish comparison that adults make. Lets face it, they are both professionals and at the top of their game, some people prefer one to another but I don't see that one is better than the other at this level of musicianship. Lets just be grateful that these guys put their hearts and souls into this for us to appreciate.

  • That's my lefty buddy holding it down for all us other leftys playing on a righty kit! Carter you rule

  • Does anyone know what kind of kit he plays?

  • @TruBluShirt He salvaged each drum from the ruins of ancient african cities thousands of feet below the ground, by spelunking into deep caves where he fought off many mythical beings including minatours, the cracken, finally challenging the devil himself to a drumoff in which he won his golden high hat.

  • @Praying4tidalWaves this is probably the best comment I have read on youtube to date.

  • @TruBluShirt I think it is a Yamaha kit

  • the exceptional precision with which he plays is fantastic.

  • k picnhe saboor

  • whats the reggae called?

  • anybody else see around 1:28- 1:31 carter flip his right drum stick

  • and like 5 other times during this video that was the only one where he flipped it on the side view all the other times it was on birds eye

  • @cubsfan821 wow yeah i saw it! amazing guy!

  • @alextwdrums

i wasnt sure if i was just seeing things or if he actually did that i had to replay it like 5 times to be sure

  • amazing though

  • @cubsfan821 He explains in another place on this DVD that he does that to get a more beefy cross stick sound.

  • @cubsfan821 he flips the stick to use the heavier butt end of the stick for a greater snare knock sound. You should try it, makes a big difference!

  • i love carter but this is that fake ass reggae. not the real nitty gritty stuff.

  • his toms sound lame and way too clean, especially for reggae

  • yeah!!!

  • whoa i'm sure greatlaw can show us how it's done everybody! reggae can be so diverse and in my opinion the more personalization and improvisation the better. this would sound SIIICK with reggae accomp. not to mention the fact that he's still keepin it real with his signature CB fills

  • Why is he so good?

  • @dhjn4214 practice idiot

  • shut up dumbass

  • @piojilolis lol :)

  • Practice makes perfect, son.

  • Amazing drummer but his is a very different approach to reggae than drummers like Gil Sarone or Dyrol Randall. I like Dyrol Randall the best as he seems to show the real thing.

  • 1:00 looks like miles davis doesn't it??

  • This really isn't a good representation of reggae at all.

Look for a ONE DROP beat and Tha's the starat of reggae.

This is like reggae turned soft and white.

  • THAT'S BECAUSE IT IS A VARIATION MORON!!! Why would a legendary drummer just play a textbook reggae beat? God forbid an artist to give his own interpretation.

  • yea hes trying to hard to put his own spin on it but yea hes not really good at doing the drop. stewart copeland is a little better

  • You CAN change the time signature in a reggae beat and it will still be reggae smart guy.

  • you said it

  • for those of u wondering, i constantly flips his stick (to have the fat end out) so he can do more proper and easier hits on the snare, with hitting the rim at the same time

  • Comment removed

  • says you

  • sounds even better slowed down

  • he flips the stick at 1:30 crazy antics!

  • Superior

  • Excellent!....

  • watch properly 1:29.. WTF~!!

  • i love the sound of that hi hat man

  • @DominicMoffitt56 For sure man.

  • HE IS THE GREATEST

  • Carter performs Alchemy everytime he performs on stage and he transforms all within an 'earshot'. Go Carter, you are the opitome of GRUX.

"Let's all run into the rain and let the 'grux' get all over us."

  • He plays like that because when he first started playing he played on other peoples kits that were right handed. He just started out playing like that so he continued playing like that and adapted his setup from there. I can show you the interview where he says that in DRUM! magazine

  • incredible contoll good hands thats it

  • i play open handed with my ride above my hi hat because i am left handed

  • ive played "open style" all my life, it wasnt always called that and i had no idea this dude played like that untill i watched the music videos, the reason most people play like that is because they are ambidex and when you are having your ride right above your highhats makes all your transitions so much faster and fluent. also you dont have to cross your hands over and trap yourself into one style of attacking different drums. True Ambi drummer = ownage.

  • man that is realllllly good.

  • eres uno de los mejores bateristas de planeta y sin embargo no tocas nada de reggae

  • he plays soo clean. i love his hi-hat

  • @jamesperinjello does anybody knw the name of this song that comes on in the middle of this video??

  • In rolling stones magazine a few years back they had a group of drummers from a bunch of bands vote on the best drummer.. guess who got the votes, ole carter

  • Ok so is he playing a fast raggae on the 3rd or is he hitting on 2 and 4?

  • depends on how you want to write it

  • haha... um.

  • are you serious?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!!?!?!?

  • Comment removed

  • what the name of this song they incorporate in the video

  • what kind of hi hats does Carter Beauford use? because they sound perfect

  • 13.5 zildjin k kustom hybrid

  • the drummer is very smooth and clean . i liked that flip he did that was nice and clean

  • clayton barret???.... carlton barret!!!!!

  • Carter beauford is one of my top 3 favorite drummers ever. Along with buddy rich, Dennis Chambers, and several original reggae drummers such as Clayton Barrett

  • leftys play right footed

  • No. He plays open handed.

  • girls girls take your panies out of a bunch! Travis barker sucks ass and plays for a 1 hit wonder band, punk rock FUCKING SUCKS and Carter Beauford is the BEST drummer for the GREATEST BAND in the world jands down

  • Carter beauford puts travis to shame! no disrespect travis is sick for punk, but seriously???

  • From looking at he way he's playing, I'd say he's a lefty playing right footed.

  • leftys play right footed..they juss play different with their hands n set the kit up differently...my cousin is a left..and so is carter...hi hat stays on the left of u..juss the ride is on the left instead of the right of u..thats all..

  • yo pearl drummer, yous a douche =)

  • I agree...travis is the teeny bopper icon drummer......and josh freese is hands down one of the best drummers EVER!!!!...in my opinion. (not that travis isn't good...he's just not a drummers drummer)

  • He slowed it down and I still have no idea what he did lol. Carter is an awesome reggae drummer, his style is so different but it works unbelieveably well for him....

  • whos the flute player in the second video?

  • That is the late LeeRoy Moore who died a few months back.

  • No it's not?

  • Leroii is playing sax

    Boyd is playing flute

    Peace x

  • Hey all you dedicated drummers, check out my new group called the Drummers Coalition Against Travis Barker and other equally overrated drummers. It is a forum for all drummers who agree with the name to post their own videos and topics for exposure. Interested? If so, just go to my profile, select the groups link below the search bar, and join!

  • lol

it's people like you who consider themselves dedicated drummers, but are actually musical snobs who don't give respect to people like Travis Barker. I'm not really a fan of that style of music or his drumming, but I certainly appreciate it and the affect his style has had on drumming. I bet you anything you couldn't play the songs he does with the feel he has. Stop being a musical jerk. Not every drummer has to be Marco Minnemann or Dave Weckl you ignorant jerk.

  • lol man its people like you who dont take the time to watch the one 6 min long about me video that proves every word of what you just said wrong that piss me off. whew... long sentence. do your research before you open your mouth, JERK!!! lmao

  • Umm Travis Barker may not be the best drummer to live, but i believe he is hands down the best punk drummer out there, and I don't know who you talk to that makes you believe Travis is over rated because no one I've talked to that's a real musician has told me that Travis is amazing at drums... are you like jealous that he got famous or something?

  • ehh... yet another wannabe drummer. lemme educate you my friend. in my humble opinion, josh freese is the best punk rock drummer ever. and just look up travis barker. his biggest video has 28 mil views and counting. haha... jealous? i dont give a damn that hes famous. it pisses me off that hes getting all of this undeserved credit. ask any competent drummer. barker is a drumming nobody.

  • jordan burns, byron(pennywise), josh freese, pete parada, gil sharone, derek grant......

you really should educate yourself more, my friend

    cheers to educated opinions

  • TOPPER HEADON......far better than Barker

you know, the drummer of the only band that matters.....THE CLASH

  • i like carters vibe, i just wish he wouold swing more. for some super nasty reggae check out dyrol randall!

  • carter is a cool dude but i wish he would swing more. check out darroll randall for some nasty reggea beats!

  • listen to his highs and los carter u da man

  • drool drool drool

  • this is funky ... he`s obviously good , but this is not reggae

  • It is, if you can wrap your mind around the kick and most of the cross stick work happening on 2 + 4 without any other instrumentation going on.

  • oh man this is sick. his stuff is so simply complicated and tasteful. i absolutely love it.

  • u obviously HAVENT heard LIVE versions vinny!

  • so smooth

  • and to think

he drops an excellent beat, while only using the bass on downbeats

proof that modern drummers are way off in style.

  • this is the master of cymbals

  • kit sounds amazing, and i love how he just spins stick with upmost ease

  • this guy rocks dude !!!

  • those are promark drumsticks???

  • yeah, and he makes them look so light, that's the awesome part. haha.

  • Sound like the start of the song, ''#41'' by Dave. Anyone agree?

  • sounds like the end

  • Carter uses Ludwig Black Beuty snares ii think, at least thats what ii read somewhere lol.

    Takee care mate x

  • Comment removed

  • I love the snare.

  • carters awesome, but not the best drummer in the world.......im actually a big fan of jojo mayer....look him up hes fuckin incredible

  • well, with all due respect, phatchordz, I disagree. I may just be one guy, but if I heard ANYONE play traditional reggae for more than a minute on youtube, I would be bored to tears. Sir Carter Freakin' Beauford simply took reggae techniques and gave them his own A-MAZING spin, since, you know, it is HIS IMPROVISATION! (1:16) And just for the record, this is awesome!

  • Comment removed

  • Best Drummer in the world. And so what if it not a simple reggae beat, It still sounds awesome

  • i love carter beauford but i agree with phatchordz, this isnt true dub reggae, not even close

  • Well Carter has a significant background in jazz and funk drumming, more so stemming from the latter and you can definatly hear some of those funk undertones in this piece here.

Is it real caribbean roots reggae? No i don't think it is but i think that there are definatly eliments of funk and reggae that can be heard in this composition that give it that pop funk/reggae vibe.

  • drum kit sounds proper but his reggae sucks , that not real roots reggae that's Americanized pop reggae, any one care to disagree? you cant tell me im wrong because I am jamaican

  • What would a proper reggae beat sound like?

  • it would be more "back to the roots" not too many fill in's. just a constant groove with expressions.

  • And would be boring and lame to listen to. Vinnie plays his own style of reggae, too.
