  • how can you not love this video!!!..im gonna watch it again!!!..i love alan hunter..the old mtv vj!!!..and ge smith from snl band!!!..all back in the day!!!!

  • Who was brought here by Fashion Wizards?

  • Please don't click on me unless you are open minded to hear demo songs from a unique artist..that recorded her own stuff in her room!!!!

  • Fripp rules

  • Some people deserve to be immortal.

  • He isn't sexy at all. He grosses me out. Bad teeth for one thing. Too skinny. ICK!

  • @Rosiegirll bowie has the elfin look, for years he was called the thin white duke. Bowie has gotten better looking with age

  • @Rosiegirll HOW CAN YOU EVEN SAY THAT!!!! David Bowie is perfection!! but we all have different tastes in men.......I just wonder what thing you are attracted to

  • @Rosiegirll just sad, he probably got his teeth messed up possibly in the same fight that happened when he was 15, hes still skinny, cuz hes still recovering over his coke addiction that lasted almost 6 years

  • the video doesnt do the song justice

  • @sallyfieldrequired

don't forget, this was like the 2nd or third music video ever made... first shown on HBO yeras before MTV. it's crappiness is it's strength!

  • @michaeldi I would ague against that as they had videos like this for 15 years before they would show them on things like top of the pops. just because mtv never didnt do it till then doesnt mean it hadent been done, they just alled them promos instead, e.g life on mars, 1973

  • Some saying Fripp some say Belew, Fripp or Belew? Fripp Belew? Fripp Belew? Fripp Belew? Which is it hmmmmmm?

  • @69Ferg All Fripp. Album version has more. (BTW, this is signature Fripp - there should be zero doubt, just listen).

  • This video was shot at Robert Boykin's NYC gay club called HURRAH. David Bowie is on the HURRAH stage which was draped in khaki canvas for this shoot. All the band scenes are shot in this club setting. Other locations around Manhattan are intercut throughout the clip.

The video features Carlos Alomar, G.E. Smith (Hall & Oates), May Pang (who was John Lennon's girlfriend from 1973–1975) and Alan Hunter, who became one of the first MTV VJs.

  • Beep beep

  • he's so epic, just amazing <3

  • just cutted the guitar? bad bad bad...

  • fashin is cool but not as cool as teenage wildife in my opinion dont knock me if i am wrong

  • G.E. Smith could've played Sgt. Elias in "Platoon" instead of Willem Dafoe

  • how ironic that he married a fashion model?

  • i have a whole dance routine worked out to this song cause i love it so much

  • "It's loud and it's tasteless,I've not heard it before.Ooh bop-Fashion",Indeed,Mr. Bowie!Legend!!

  • The guy IN this video playing guitar is G.E. Smith.

The guy on the recording (audio) playing guitar is Adrian Belew.

  • Oh when music was great!

  • Was so excited when this album came out - was 12 & a big fan. To me, it remains his last truly great album.

  • Is that Lionel Richie at 1:33?

  • Is that Lionel Richie at 1:33?

  • daaaav-ieyd boowie maaaaannn.... :)

  • Damn. Is that man sexy or what?

  • Best line: ":You shout it when you dance it on the-e-e dance flour :-)"

  • @robvw actually its "you shout it while you're dancing on the-er dance floor" (check LP liner notes)

  • @thutton67 Absolutely right...and my favorite line of this song!!I love how Bowie worked wonder with his lyrics!Cerebral brilliance..and with such a fantastic attitude!

  • so coked out in this video.

  • Have you been an androgynous Englishman, doing anything to make a buck

  • in bowies vids he allways does that kneeling touching the ground thing, whats that about?

  • "Listen to me - Don't listen to me

Talk to me - Don't talk to me

Dance with me - Don't dance with me

    No - Beep-beep - Beep-beep"

    great song!!!!!!!!!!

  • Jermaine says your just a figment of my imagination...

  • Comment removed

  • Seems like Blur and Franz Ferdinand inspired by such songs. Neither a fan of Bowie nor gay, but Bowie sometimes looks like some irresistible King of vampire world!

  • @seasonedsevencolors lol totally agree with you bowie is the closest thing to a real vampire ive ever seen, certainly puts that twilight mob to shame lol

  • at 0.15...absolutely beautiful.what i wouldnt give for half an hour with mr bowie...iman is one lucky woman!!!

  • Bowie at its finest hours (not that his 90's and 00's albums where less good)

  • hes very pretty almost looks like some kind of candy!

  • Is that G.E. Smith in there? Holy crap!

  • One of my favourite Bowie tracks, this song is overtly political and was spot on at the time of its release.

  • Feed me drugs.

  • Really great video!

  • I just love that bit where he does those "bunny hands" and pulls that face, then shrugs his shoulders!!! killer!!!

    chestyxx

  • @Arockstardead bowie used the method were he would throw written words into the air, still having language structure in the end and he would write a song that way look at the bewlay brothers that song makes no sense or look at 1984, he is amazing at confusing americans for his songs make no sense and have no reason for being written

  • This is really great,I owned this on a 45 record in 1981.bowie is a great preformer

  • Ahead of its time , great video Bowie is really a great preformer

  • Love it!! he looks so good here!!! fucking killer track!

    chestyxx

  • Where in the hell is Robert Fripp? His chair sitting could bring so much more action to the video. Lol.

  • Where in the hell is Robert Fripp?

  • Robert Fripp great guitar

  • He is amazingly hot in this video :) <3

  • is it just me or do those poor people have the same clothes as what lady gaga wears they say she was influenced by him and the way she shows that is by wearing those funny outfits off fashion this must be the main song that she liked hahahaha :P

  • we are the goon squad and were coming to town beep beep!!! beepbeeep!

  • I LOVE THIS SONG

  • I love the big Seconol the house frau is holding.

  • i wonder if hes making more music

    i would hope so

  • David Bowie is SO hot.

  • great bowie tune....kool 80's!!!!

  • pant, pant, pant, drool, drool, drool,

  • @botbagel LOL

  • Could he be any more GORGEOUS!!! I've always been totally in love with this man! This is one of my favorite albums.. so unique and I love the guitar work.

  • @tdevine7 DITTO to everthing you just said hunny!!!

    chestyx

  • @tdevine7 I know right. First time I saw him I was very yong and was watching a music video with my father and just fell in love with David.

  • @tdevine7 me to and im a gay and have a girlfriend but i love david bowie and im onley 14 (:

  • @tdevine7 That's the great Adrian Belew on guitar.

  • @tdevine7 If he were, he'd be a woman supermodel, lol. He's the sexiest man alive, sex just oozes from his music!

  • @tdevine7 lol i guess thats what Imani thought aswell :)

  • The last dancer, the brunette in blue, was upset because she finally realized fashion was taking over her life.

  • And original MTV VeeJay Alan Hunter was one of the bunny hoppers!

  • Wow, that's an extremely young GE Smith

  • Nobody writes lyrics quite like Bowie, we

are the goonsquad and we're going to town beep beep. The Thin White Duke

may have been by turns loud or tasteless,

but we never heard it before. Cheers!

  • I really like the band in this clip!

  • lol loving the bunny hop LONG LIVE BOWIE!!!!

  • cant believe this is 30 years ago..... it all feels very relevant.... somehow

  • AGGHHH! You better hush yo mouth! This Album Scary Monters & Super Creeps was and is without a doubt one of David Bowies Greatest Contributions to Music and it set a standard not only in music but in music videos. It has changed the way we see Artist, Music, and their music forever!

I know personally This album, cassette, & cd is without a doubt the.most played album I have played in my short 45 years on this planet...So yes it was and is still quite relevant.

  • 30 years:( am I really that old LOL

  • hey, you're sooo lucky you were alive then! I wish i grew up in that time! :(

  • ...name a video that even comes close to this in terms of sexuality, funk and artistic merit.

Somebody mentioned GE Smith on guitar. Yep. That's him. Also, in this video, Carlos Alomar. Google up these two guys. Important players in music history. HOWEVER, on the actual record, Robert Fripp and Carlos Alomar did most of the major riffing. Important to note Brian Eno's lasting impression on this record "Scary Monsters" since their previous collaborations in the 1970s.

  • @LaHencheMann prince? although he is a loon

  • Fripp and Alomar may have done the major riffing, but GE Smith did the major sneering and smugging, which is why I hated him on Saturday Night Live.

  • Alright kids. History lesson time. Let's put this music video in context: 1980. What was going on in the world? Culturally? Politically? Technologically? As far as being a "low rent" video...I would say it that it ranks as one of the greatest videos of all time...this was BEFORE MTV...so, the idea of "music video" was considered high concept, something expected from Bowie.

  • klassik 80's bowie .....to be young again.

  • FASHION

  • God this video is so low rent... Bowie was on top of the world at this time, he could've done anything.

  • This video was BEFORE MTV...he was one of the pioneers of music video and indeed the next single off this album was Ashes to Ashes...which is now considered a classic in music video making. It blew people's minds.

  • I actually do LOVE the Ashes to Ashes video. But also, you could look at the videos for "DJ" and "Boys Keep Swinging" which were released before this, and are both pretty kick ass.

  • It's probably so low-rent because he blew all his video money on Ashes to Ashes, which was the most expensive music video ever made at the time of release.

  • Early 80's I was in junior high use to turn on M.T.V. (when it was cool) get stoned and there would be Bowie.

  • Is that G.E. Smith on guitar?

  • he's a good singer heck his video's are cool

  • i think it's a great song and a just ok video.

  • This is the perfect video.

  • David Bowie and David Lynch should work together, I'd remortgage my house to help finance that project.

  • Have you seen Twin Peaks: Fire Walk With Me? They worked together on that. It would have been awesome if they worked together more.

  • No, I haven't, but thanks for the heads-up, that's going to be my next purchase.

  • Its a really more of a small cameo, but it was interesting seeing David Bowie doing an American accent.

  • Also, there are some REALLY weird parts.

  • I like the video, but the only thing I don't like is his weird facial expressions. Other than that he looks sexy in this vid.

  • I love the song but the video is just weird, if not awful :\

  • @AFirmKickInThePants Like most of Bowie's. Songs are awesome but the videos usually are not up to the scratch in my opinion

  • yah indeed

  • Bowie's videos are not typical of the MTV crap that comes out. He tends to be a bit more avant garde in his music videos than most.

  • wtf? at 1:27 a dog is randomly circled.

  • its from his movie the labrynth

  • Ahh, Okay. I gotta watch that movie sometime.

  • no it's not

  • It looks like that dog, but the other people don't look likr they are from the movie.

  • the people from bad homes do again and again, he's laughing at you, goonies he's having fun making large amounts of dinero. 'it's loud and it's tasteless and I've heard it before, etc... It's more beautiful to make love to Tchaichovsky... ffff fffff faaah

    fashion.

  • Did G.E.Smith participate in the album of Scary Monsters?

  • The speed of the playback is a bit slower than the record. Ruins the listening experience. Movin' on...

  • He keeps rubbing and moving his nose...coke anyone ??? lol....

    Badass tho...

The chicks in this vid are pretty hot....

  • Bowie's coke addiction is from 1976 to 1978, roughly...he was already detoxed in the 80's.

  • I'm pretty sure it started earlier than that, as in Aladdin Sane or even Ziggy. You're right about '78 though.

  • dang hes hot

  • ultimate 80s tune (8) we are the goon squad and we're coming to town *beep beep* ;)

  • 0:13 reminds me of tim allen

  • what the hell are you talking about?......you idiot.

  • Fashion is danger

  • Bowie is the best

  • I'm trying to understand what's his thing with the wierd gesture of touching the ground, which is more obvious in the "Ashes To Ashes" clip...

  • Comment removed

  • the Ashes to Ashes video came out before this one and when they do that movement they are being followed by that big construction truck and one of the extras, Steve Strange, didn't want the back off his costume getting pulled under the tire, along with himself, so he developed that stylized motion just so he could grab his clothes and try to prevent any injuries and it seems to have stuck around for awhile as a little dance or something

  • It's in several other Bowie videos, ('Loving the Alien' comes to mind), but I have no idea what it means either...

  • by touching the ground he is laying foundation

  • Dave Bowie.....oooooh he looks good even when he was young, one of my fav singers

  • beep beep!

  • No one sings into a c-stand quite like Dave Bowie.

  • So sexy

  • pure sex in 3 mins 23 secs ;)

  • i love this song ....

  • If people wonder why bowie is in Zoolander..i just tell them to look up this song.

  • Never seen that early Geek era movie - Zoolandier and probably wont so it wont ruin my view of this kick ass goon squad jam. Turn to the left!

  • oh really was he ? you mean the movie with ben stiller ?

  • sounds like talking head maybe bowie was the idle of talking heads lol.

  • Don't normally go 4 blondes, but god! He looks gorgeous in this!! (N wot a top tune)

  • I think Bowie can look good in ANY hairstyle + color XD Any way you put it, he's nice on the eyes 8D

  • Love this!

  • i am an artist, i do think bowie has a very intresting face his

nose and great eyes! not just a pretty face clone like old those

    holliwood wankers!

  • Did anyone see this video on Never Mind the Buzzcocks? Absolutely hilarious!

Don't get me wrong, love the video to this!

  • which member of the 'band' was in the line-up?

  • i want to make sweet sweet love to this man

  • he's so beautiful...

  • I love you David I love You,do you know that? He's a genius. The most talented man in the whole universe.

  • one of the greatest songs of that that era

  • very underrated song...

  • That "brand new dance"... LOL XD

  • wow old song! but still really cool!!!

  • New version by Sunburst Band is really nice

  • people would look at David Now, and go EWW but when they see this video they drool :P

  • I still drool lol I think he is frikken hot :)

  • Why would they do that, he looks pretty good for his age.
