I saw this at a local drive in back in the early 70's. I can hardly remember it....was in my mid-teens. Didn't pay much attention...after seeing this trailer I wish I had! Many thanks for posting this fascinatin footage! :)
I'd like to see all of the Mae West footage that was cut from the film during its final editing. It was a good film, but probably would have been better with more Mae West scenes. It might have even made money!
Sarne I thought did a GOOD job with a VERY difficult source novel. Myra Breckinridge is not the kind of novel that would lend itself well to cinema...difficult at best but he did a wonderful job capturing the spirit of the book!! Raquel was wonderful & John Huston was perfect as Buck Loner!! This film is classic!
How can U go wrong when John Carradine as the plastic surgeon says ''''Parafine is flammable, U wouldn't want inflammable tits now would U?' LOL.
@Dotseoem Raquel Welch, Farrah Fawcett, were very attractive women, not men dressed as women, but real women. I don't see anything funny about the filth of same sex.
@Dotseoem Dude or whatever you've chosen for yourself.... Raquel Welch was never a man that became a woman. If that's your concept of a joke, yes leaving the internet is a good choice of action for you...and your little comments do not invoke any anger in me. But you don't seem to handle direct confrontation too well.
All through the 70s (mostly from the infamously gaffe-filled Medved books), Id heard that Myra was one of the worst films of all time, and from the basic descriptions, it sounded like it.
Then when I finally saw it in the 80s, I was surprised to discover that it was actually a funny and subversive film, and much different than I had expected it to be. In fact, the format of the old HBO series, Dream On, was so obviously copied from Myra that they should have sued.
yes! thank you! i was pretty young when Dream On was on the air but i always remembered the inserts... the first time i saw Myra i knew where they got it.
i love this movie. i love the commentary track on the dvd from the director, its very insightful. i cant understand how people didnt get it when it came out. i laugh my ass off every time i watch it
An entertaining film indeed for many reasons. People who put the movie down are often those who read the book and realize what was missing from the movie, including an ending.
oih PLEEZE!!!! hey 'less-xotic'...tell us how you phucked Raquel Welch...we know you love to brag....and lie....your life is soo miserable you have to lie to make yourself seem important....
Either that or they are people who have never actually seen the film, but have only read about it, and so think that it is "cinematically correct" to say that it is horrible. Actually, its a fun film that was wayyyy ahead of its time in many ways. People who are offended by it need to lighten up.
i think this movie would play better with all that stock footage removed...

Racquel went down in movie history all right, as a horrible actress who always sounded as though she was reading her lines.

One Million Yeears B.C. put Raquel Welch on the map but Myra Breckinridge ensured her place in film history.
