  • Seriously brilliant, esp because it's live.

  • Man those guys are incredible...how could you dislike this?

  • @guitarhero1346 ........ That is Chuck, playing the tuba.

  • @Lysander910 It's because at the end Bach added a picardy third. Making the piece from minor to major at then end - it's a borrowed chord from the parallel major. So if you disagree, then take it up with Bach. Nothing says perfection like Canadian Brass.

  • WHERE IS CHUCK???

  • Where may I get the music for this?

    I play the trumpet.

  • so much.... staccato

  • hello people, please, search for "Glissando Ensemble" and tell me what you think, thanks

  • @TheDavid1525 good work!

  • @themaupaez thanks :) really thanks

  • Amazing Trumpet sound!!!

  • omg.. their trainers :D

  • My only complaint with this is that they went major on the last chord. Otherwise, amazing sound!

  • ........ i miss Ron

  • at least the tuba player is the same!

  • 9 people are violin players

  • Incredible live performance of that piece!

  • the people that disliked this are NAZI'S!

  • @platypusdude11 Godwin's law is working I see...

  • Great video, but didn't they end the piece with a D major instead of the ordinary D minor?

  • man... imagine playing those offbeats...

  • @aSharpGuy97 its easy actually. Just have to imagine you are playing the other part in your head, while you play the off beats. Easy :D Isn't that how we are supposed to play anyway? From our head?

  • I disagree. The people who disliked this were jealous organ players. :)

  • woodwind players....or drummers. Kidding, it fantastic and bless all with even a little of this talent.

  • They are absolutely GREAT!!! please people, search for "Glissando Ensemble" and tell me what you think, I am really interested in your comments, Thanks

  • tom hanks on first trumpet and bj novak on second to back him up

  • CAnadian Brass at it's best!awesome

  • I found it via jeff nelsen's website

  • this is amazing!

  • i play the tube begginer

  • I play saxaphone and I still liked it mr.top comment......no offense but why do a lot of brass players think that woodwinds aren't real instruments??? I have had this said to me before. I have respect for all instruments.

  • @starianna200023 It's not that we don't think they're real instruments, we just like to have a fun rivalry. It's just the way things work. We respect all instruments as well, it's just fun to have a rivalry and argue about which instruments or types of instruments are better. And by the way, the piano is the best instrument by far.

  • @Speakoniaman That does kind of explain it......my brother plays trumpet and he is SO COCKY. But I do have to agree that Piano is awesome, I started when I was 3

  • Truly God inspired - LOVED IT!!!!

  • is one of the guys who plays a trumpet is mister shoe from glee ????

  • @natedog2004

No Mathew Morrison is a Broadway and T.V. actor/singer, he doesn't play trumpet.

  • @swimmingtrumpets10 it almost looked like him!!!!!!

  • the white shoes are killing me haaahaha

  • Brilliant. The end was a little different, but it works. (Tierce de Picardie)

  • i cant believe that guy just did that part on a trumpet...lungs

  • LOL for the unexpected (a little bit unlikely) picardy third :-)

  • 5 people are american...

  • This is GREAT !

  • Summit and Canadian needa fight.

  • 1:45 Isn't that Ryan from the Office?

  • @TGloodt The "hot" one? According to Michael Scott? Lol.

  • My old band director would have been furious if I had worn tennis shoes on stage

  • @EV5852 well... this isn't band class.

  • @zander392 well he said it was unprofessional lol

  • How do you dislike this!? Some people just dislike things to screw with everyone else. They do it just to dislike things, nobody can deny how incredible this is.

  • What's with their shoes? Are they sponsored by Nike now?

  • @Hettbone1 They always do that at concerts. Because when you're that awesome you can wear whatever shoes you want.

  • @queentailar that's true.

  • @Hettbone1 That's just their thing, I guess. :3

  • give it up for tom hanks on 1st trumpet lol

  • 4 people...wow, 4 dislikes is really few.

    Canadian Brass rules btw!

  • jeez these guys never cease to amaze me...

  • sounds better then the 32 feet Trumpet register!

  • oh...the shoes...

  • the people who disliked this were woodwind players

  • @MusicBeSweetYo

    Ha ha. They must be.

  • @MusicBeSweetYo I loved it, and I play the frikkin' oboe and piano.

  • @MusicBeSweetYo Clarinet, Flute, oboe, and Cello and I think it's amazing, but then again Bach always was.

  • @MusicBeSweetYo HEY HEY HEY WHOA WHOA WHOA, I play Clarinet,. I liked, jus' sayin'.

  • @MusicBeSweetYo i am a woodwind player and i loved it.

  • awesome xD....

    fantastic...

  • why are the stands so low, they cant get a proper air steam if thaier nechs are bent

  • @TheRegulated propably becouse they barely watch at the sheet music. and if the stands wehre higher you couldnt see them aswell as you do now.

  • @TheRegulated

you're not supposed to be still looking at your sheet music at the performance

but you have to make eye contact with your fellow band members

... that's at least one way to explain it :)

  • evrybody will agree that canadian brass has awesome players but i have to say that such pieces , if played on brass sound just even more impressive in bigger essembles

  • @jones2884 yeah, but that's what makes this so incredible. Imagine capturing the sound of an entire organ with just five instruments. It's phenomenal. It's quite a feat.

  • CANADIAN BRASS AT IT'S BEST!!!

  • 3 people have their mind upside down!!

  • @farmerjamesfergus can't really remember, but as long as I can't do better, I can't complain eh?

  • cause they can

  • Instead of playing d minor at the end, they played a picardy third.(d major) idk why they would change that.

  • @sillysallykingdog more baroque

  • @sillysallykingdog who cares, they were amazing!

  • @sillysallykingdog Well, you obviously have some knowledge of musicianship, so why would they change it? It's a valid question.

  • just bought this peice, its CRAZY!!! it's so hard to put together! :D they make it sound so easy :D

  • that was sick.

  • damn thats a good vid yall FreeIpads.wall.fm

  • Awesome Performance and Arrangement!!

  • What is the deal with the nice suits and the white tennis shoes? While i may disagree with what Canadians must consider high fashion I do find these to be a top notch group of player. Very impressive performance.

  • @kptbone1 I think it's their way of showing a sense of humour. It comes out more in some of their other videos.

  • What is the deal with the nice suits and the white tennis shoes? While i may disagree with what canadians must consider high fashion I do find these to be a top notch group of player. Very impressive performance.

  • @kptbone1 Style or trend thing. Wearing casual shoes with formal dress...way to say I'm still cool?

  • 1:02 horns are the best.

  • Some wrong notes, but still a great performance

  • @LeTuba Get over yourself

  • @Waterman202 I'm always trying. I assume you're doing it as well : )

  • @LeTuba Where in the piece and what instrument(s)?

  • My head...it is exploding from the epicness...

    Bach would be proud!

  • My head...it is exploding from the epicness...

  • Amazing..

  • Isso é mágico... muito lindo. Lamento apenas o fato desse tipo de musica não ter o valor que lhe é devido aqui no Brasil. Isso é cultura! Isso sim é música.

  • It is unbelievable how close the tone color of a brass quintet could even come close to matching the timbre of an organ but they have completely surpassed my expectations! Amazing!

  • I got to go see them live in concert. Amazing. Would I go back? Yea! I mean now i appreciate the sound of brass a little more...

  • 3 people had their computer upside down and pressed the wrong button..

  • @donovan360 5

  • it´s really great to read, thaks people...

  • ab 2:30!!! a fehér sport cipő mellé passzolt volna egy fehér póló, vagy kalap! :)

    BIG LOL!!!

  • The only men alive who can get away with wearing black shirts, black pants, and white shoes.

  • @Sker91

That's exactly what I was thinking! haha It really bothers me that they wear white shoes.

  • Awesome Selection. Played by one of the best Brass Quintets. Very impressive arrangement.

  • @onetenore16 you idiot they ARE the best brass quintet in the world

  • @0BIGBUCKEYE9 they were probably 15 years ago, watts is too old. I saw them in Indianapolis in 99 and they were excellent, then again in 02 and not as good.

  • @0BIGBUCKEYE9 let's not forget Mnozil

  • thank you Canadian brass for publishing this piece because me and my friends are playing this for the las Vegas solo and ensemble next year

  • When I see this video, I feel like crying ... very beautiful.

I'm a fan of the group, and of course I'm a fan of Jeff Nelsen *-*

  • its always wierd to watch trombones play bach, cuz the motifs sound mathematical but the movement of the slide looks like it makes no sense whatsoever

  • I'm in a Brassband counting 40 musicians and no one but me want to play this piece :(

  • I didn't know Tom Hanks played the trumpet

  • @MeikolMusic I was about to put the same thing. Verbatim. Weird.

  • @MeikolMusic Tom Hanks can do anything and does everything.

  • @ds0k0l0wski0 he's especially good at single-handedly kicking the british and their red-coat asses back to england!

  • why do they end in major? i like it better when it ends in minor......AWESOME PERFORMANCE THOUGH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • @Nintendoman851 It traditionally ends in major, that's how Bach wrote the original piece for organ. So blame Bach if you don't like it lol

  • @Nintendoman851 It's called a Picardy 3rd when there's a major chord at the end of a piece in minor. It's a common baroque technique.

  • @pccbassbone oh ok, thanks for clearing that up mate :)

  • Horn player had a little trouble at the end on the big slurs, but he's still amazing.

  • simply, amazing.

  • I'm seeing them this weekend!

  • I can listen to them all day long!

  • not sure about the white shoes with black suits! Excellent though.

  • @yttamatty That has been traditional with the CB for the last 25 years...

  • I liked it, and am a fan of Canadian brass, but after listening to a trombone quartet and hearing the powerful chords, I must say I prefer the sound of a trombone quartet over a brass quintet.

  • a woodwind player watched this video

  • @heyho09 I did, and thumbed and favorited it.

  • @heyho09 Oh really?

  • New statistic: 1 out of every 196 people is deaf and/or stupid.

  • This is so powerful, but I must say that they did not play the Tuba pedal note that I heard in a different recording in ~1:00

But long live the Canadian Brass!

  • I have to apologize to MrMike5. It really is a grand piece that should be played on giant pipes, with all the resultant grandeur. Upon re-listening I see that now. Sorry about being a dick before. Sometimes I post comments before I engage my brain.

  • sorry, but I didn't understand the "White shoes"...

For the rest... Awesome... I don't have words to say that what I'm listening is unsuitable from a human fact...

  • @Alejus28 The white trainers have been the CB landmark for the last thirty years...

  • Other instruments were invented for a reason. This is the reason. I would love to like this, but it just isn't meant to be. This isn't very good to be perfectly honest. They played good though; the sound of it is just unbearable.

  • @MrMrmike5 Let me guess, you played third clarinet in a shitty high school band at some point, right?

  • @tdelamont French Horn, 8 years, College. Trumpet 5 years.

  • @tdelamont That would be even better considering the piece was created for organ so any orchestra arrangement would have just as much validity as the transcription he was insulting.

  • i love there music so much. my favorite band of my life. i love there personalitys to. their originally so funny. and they have awesome shoes to.

  • what's up with the major ending?

  • @7r0j4nm4n its called a pickety third, a technique commonly used by bach to end on a "happy ending"

  • look it´s tom hanks

  • I'd love to hear you guys play "Fugue in G Minor" =D

It's my favorite and you'd just rip it a new one if you did it

  • @jewboy11505 They did it. Look up "CB in Atlanta 1985" or some such.

  • great music , great musicians but ..wtf sitting + white shoes ? :D

  • i had the pleasure of hearing this, and many other pieces, played in concert. You guys are very entertaining

  • Try the Organ at Wanamakers in Philadelipha with all the stops pulled out. Wake the dead !

  • This is just amazing... the Flawlessness just amazes me... im in the 1st band of my hs band and i play trumpet... this just blows my mind every time i listen to it...keep up the good work!!

  • @compaqsr1610nx french horn>clarinet duhhh stupid

  • I just jizzed a little

  • pedal from tuba player at the end thats all you need

  • The new trumpet players do a wonderful rendition and would make Ronald Romm and Fred Mills proud. RIP Fred.......JT

  • @compaqsr1610nx I don't think there are a lot of brass players who would allow a clarinet in their brass quintet, just saying..

  • what type of tuba is that, Bb or c

  • @terrellrell715 More likely F or Eb

  • @WW2obsession Charles Daellenbach uses the YCB-621 C tuba. It's a really fun horn to play!

  • @terrellrell715 looks like its Bb. the bell of a C is slightly taller

  • @terrellrell715 he plays on a yamaha F

  • absolutely flawless.

  • I wish you all would stop complaining about the last chord and use/non use of vibrato and just appreciate it for what it is, which is another nice arrangement of a great piece. Unless you know if this was at the beginning or end of a long concert where chops were going downhill and thus pitch goes too, or maybe they weren't on their game...just stop talking. About vibrato, this is their interpretation of the piece, so deal with it. Play it your way when you do it. That's the beauty of music.

  • @compaqsr1610nx you wouldnt hear the clarinet. XD

  • 1:04 -ish sends chils down my spine!

  • BelezaAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAa!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Pure BACHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!

  • 2:10 circular breathing!!!

  • I think this was at the St Lawrence Centre for the Arts in the Jane Mallet theatre in October of 2001 during the Hanniford Festival of Brass in Toronto. Was front row centre and this was the the piece that blew me away. It just has to be seen live...

  • @compaqsr1610nx Please stop talking. WOODWINDS SUCK. It's called Canadian BRASS. They don't suck because they play BRASS instruments.

  • f*ckin amazing !!!!!!

  • 2:31 i wish i could do intervals like that

  • it's not that hard less than a 8th

  • circular breathing at 2:08
