melee generals don't "ignore spears" the have "no penalty against spears". In other words spear units don't get "bonus vs cav" when fighting the melee general. Spears however are still quite an effective unit against melee genrals. A melee general can charge a loan sword or katana sam unit and the unit will take heavy losses and I've even routed loan swords on head on charges with my general. You can't do this to a yari unit. They just hold their formation better.

just because ur opponent has a 9 chevron unit doesnt mean its fully upgraded or upgraded atall. i have some high chevron yari samurai and katana samurai which have no upgrades but makes my opponent think they cost alo more than they do, hence i can hide cav in woods they dont expect, u shud try it.

I don't know if you know this or not, but while on campaign I noticed that once you have a market up and running it probably isn't a good idea to upgrade it anymore. Mainly because all of it's updates after the market phase cost some of your food surplus. Anytime I play I noticed that after I stopped building the later upgrades for the market there was little or no unrest in my campaigns because of my food surplus.

Thanks for the tips on dealing with upgraded sword infantry by using katana cav. It seems like a great counter to rank 9 lone sword spam since they get decimated by cav charges.

If those matchlocks had been upgraded or monks your katana cav probably would have been in trouble.

Howdy. You mentioned in the video that you could spot hidden unit placement by watching routing units collide with them. I think it might be possible to spot hidden units moving through the woods by the birds they scare up, but I'm not sure if this is true as I've only been able to spot the birds circling my own units.

Good battle heir but you are kinda right about melee generals. They can kill sword units, but normally only 1v1. 2 loan swords would reck a melee general pretty bad if the loan swords got the charge bonus, but if the melee general gets a charge off he would kill them both. Units melee genrals are weak against are matchlocks katana calvalry and bow generals because a legendary bowman has ignore arourmor and that 11 auromor wouldnt do anything. Also melee generals give little morale to their men.

I find melee general to be most effective against yari and naginatas like you said, but they are also the best at taking out hero units

if you activate banzai and charge into melee against a hero, usually they lose 3/4 to all of the hero unit in the charge

@HeirofCarthage here is another for you; incase you didnt know, alot of people complained that the default movement was run when you lay out formations by dragging right mouse. so if you wanted to move a hidden unit it would run and you would have to try make them walk asap. rather than click for walk and use the arrows to turn ect. you can do it by dragging the right mouse in formations and hold CTRL and they will walk into those formations.i see many run hidden units by mistake, so there =]
