  • i like the verses and the instrumental parts but the chorus is really weak

  • Someone hit the dislike button but then they got an arrow in the knee.

  • Amazing vocals, is there a live version of this one?

  • 1:47 - 2:00 are deja-vu..

  • Comment removed

  • This is fucking amazing music.

  • oh the hunter

    i'm the cannibal

  • This is probably my fav song, either this or TDWOT, I don't care if that song is 20 mins long I love it xD

  • Dream Theater should have quit after Metropolis 2. And stop producing stupid brutal thrash-like songs that suck MAJOR ASS.

  • @nasoszeppos oh im sorry, maybe your comment would be more appreciated on a video more relevant to Dream Theater T_T

  • love the intro

  • I used to be a die hard Dream Theater fan. Since they won't discharge Jordan Rudess, I'd rather listen to Symphony X. There is so much good music to cover in all of Symphony X's music it will take years. ~ BulgySquid (take this post VERY seriously).

  • @genuineinquiry what's wrong with rudess? he's amazing

  • @Sanjaysgranny Seconded!

  • Is it just me, or do the verses in this song feel faintly similar to that of their song 'The Raging Season"? It almost seems like they wanted a Russel Allen version so they did some recycling. Haha.

  • I love the bridge in this song. Symphony X at their best.

  • I'm seeing them march 17th!! :D can't freakin' wait.

  • @adrianvel14 freakin' jelous

  • @adrianvel14 im seeing them may! :o i hope they play some of this older stuff

  • Andromeda , symphony x , dream theater

  • Opeth c'est le meilleur metal progressif qu'on peut trouvé.

  • The singer has a fucking voice and an a half.

  • john petrucci cant play like micheal romeo and besidesdream theater has nothing on symphony x

  • @87metalriot Totally agree! Neither can Micheal Romeo play like JP

  • @87metalriot shut the fuck up

  • <3 Symphony

    <3 Dream Theater

    <3 Rush

  • What is up with people comparing John Petrucci and Michale Romeo. Both different players and great at what they do! They have their own identity. So it's better to keep quiet and respect both great guitarists.

  • The chorus in this song is so damn good and eerie

  • sx is my favorite everything is so "right" the sound, the music, lyricsand themes.

p.s i don't understand why people need to compare between dt and sx

dt has some great songs (mainly when derek sherinian was on the keyboards)

  • This used to be my favorite song by any artist. My copy of Twilight in Olympus was stolen a while back, so I haven't heard this song in quite a long time until now. It's good to be reminded of why you loved a song so much years ago. Absolutely awesome.

  • Symphony X could be so much better if they worked on the keybord. it seems to be a bit lacking. People are right in saying that 4:19 is good, but it could be much, much better. who is Symphony X's Keyboard player?

  • @billboard67 Michael Pinnella.

  • what a fucking good damn tune!!!

  • this is by far my favorite symx album. This song and Through the Looking Glass just kick my ass.

  • chasing the morning star..... wait for me.

  • pain of salvation,ARK,Dream theater,INDUKTI,Canvas solaris,Scale the summit tryt o these bands =D

  • i just ordered this CD and The Damnation Game on ebay for under $15(including shipping :D)

can't wait to get it! Symphony X is awesome, thanks for posting

  • best symphony x song it was the first one i ever heard by them and it still stands out!

  • When they sing future destiny it sounds like the timejump from the Rocky Horror Picture Show.

  • heel saai

  • 2:10 there is a lyric from the raging seasons

  • petrucci vs romeo is a total bullshit question. that's like saying who's a more powerful god, Odin or Zeus?...

  • everyone likes their own god if you know what I mean :/

  • well yeah i suppose, i mean, i'd put my money on Odin for sure. what im saying i guess is that it's too opinionated a topic for arguing to matter.

  • $ on Odin.

requesting all bidders place their bets now! ;)

  • @InfiniteObscurity um.... ZEUS!

  • I agree in Symphony X's superiority over Dream Theater, but still, DT is a very good band.

  • definitely one of my top 2 favorite keyboard solos

  • HAHA i was thinking about the odyessey when i posted my last comment...i definitely give props to him for that. In my opinion i think petrucci is more versatile and has much more soulful and meaningful solos. Everyone of Romeos solos is "classical metal," correct me if im wrong. Composing on the other hand, romeo takes the cake.

  • i livelli compositivi dei Dream Theater non sono paragonabili a nessuno...E soprattutto a livello ritmico i Symphony x non sono molto complessi.

  • 4:18 is the coolest groove and @koolakron im not saying romeo is a bad guitar player but john petrucci is on a whole other level. Im sure romeo himself would say so to.

  • @paonek1

I personaly love John Petrucci, and he is my favorite guitarist.

From what I hear, I would say JP has more technical skill, and more musical diversity. But MR is in my opinion a more talented musician as a whole. MR composed the Odyssey after all.

  • I like Symphony X MUCH more than Dream Theater (even though I can appreciate DT).. The epicness and feeling symphony X transmits is much closer to my feelings and dreams than Dream Theater will ever be, maybe it has to do with what kind of person I am etc.. since people are comparing I felt I had to say my opinion in the matter! Peace! This album rules!

  • Agreed, symphony x and sonata arctica resonate with me very well, the atmosphere is almost out of this world, everyone seems to have their own niche in this case

  • mythology metal

    lol

  • god shut the fuck up with the comparing, this is how you tell an imature listener from a wise one. Its not a fucking race you idiots every musician has his or her style and they'll contribute something unique and its not a race. enjoy the music

  • yeeaaah man... I don´t know why this fucking people insist in compare.. I hate read shits like this... Oo"

  • Several bands that play similar music... You really can't help comparing them, especially if you're fans of them all.

  • everything is compared with something foo... how else are you suppose to rate it....

  • I think Romeo has more skill than Petrucci, but both still kick ass

  • agree

  • The keyboard solo in this song is SICK!

  • I fucking hate when people keep telling SX, DT, PoS, SV, JP or whatever the fuck. Just spell the name out you tards.

  • Don't be dissin' JP man

  • I'm not dissing John Petrucci, i was just saying that his name isn't that long to write out.

  • i know what u mean. i dont know the names of all these bands so i would like to know who they are so i could look em up hahaah

  • Symphony X, Dream Theater, Pain of Salvation, Steve Vai, John Petrucci. People should have enough respect andwrite the names out full.

  • @lordvivec87

Don't be pompous dude. Do you say National football league, Coca Cola(as opposed to "coke"), or automated teller machine every single time?

  • @lordvivec87 Respect for who? Those who don't know who Vai, Petrucci, or DT are? Respect for the bands/artists? Do you not know that using abbreviations is generally received as a sign of respect and admiration for something/someone?

  • @lordvivec87 John Petrucci can suck my nuts. Michael Romeo would shred circles around him.

  • @bill14231393 youre a retard, they are both amazing and have different styles. its stupid to try to compare the two

  • @MusicalBloodflow Two different styles. Sucking nuts and getting nuts sucked. You and I both know which is which.

  • @lordvivec87 are all good musicians. but the best now is the young italian guitarist Daniele Gottardo.

  • @c605 Imo gottardo is good but he does not have the musicality that petrucci, vai, satch, romeo, govan, loomis and gilbert.

  • @lordvivec87 I second that.

  • @lordvivec87 love very much all those marvelous artists. and also joe satriani :P

  • @lordvivec87 Dream Theater is amazing. <3

  • This would've been great music for Hexen 2! It really fits the "Hexen" theme perfectly IMHO!

    Great bloody song too!

  • I love all this album!

  • Mmmmm.... what about just progressive metal?

Grettings to all SyX from soutamerica!

  • What about just fucking metal, and then we'll leave it at that?

  • that intro is so frigging sick!

  • POWERRRRR!

  • Progressive/ Neo-classical actually.

  • i don't think that he's referring to the kind of metal they play

but the felling that u fell when u listen this music

  • alright then

  • Progressive/Neo-classical/Power actually

  • My nick on youtube was based on this music

    SX rules...

  • wow i just stumbled onto this, never heard them before and i think symphony x is sick

  • perfecto! good riffs and good vocals too! You can't listen them without loving they too

  • wonderful song! I love this band!

  • i cant beleive how good 4:19 is

  • Totally agree. Orion is my top ten of Symphony X songs.

  • 4:19 is pretty good, but listen to 4:55! AMAZING

  • @anotherholywar YEAH! thats my favorite part!

  • WTF, I found this while looking for videos for the band Orion the Hunter....(cheesy 80s Boston-related stuff)

Anyway, I'm a DT fan so I'll let it slide...some good stuff here, worth the time if nothing else.

  • I'm glad you liked it.

  • @BayerischeE24 I also am severe dream theater fan..symphony x could easily become a second fav..lol

  • @BayerischeE24 you should listen to all symphony x stuff its sick

  • "Where are they from?"

    Hazlet, NJ, USA

  • Best.Album Cover.Ever IMO

  • When it comes to metal nowadays.

In my opinion there are but 3-4 bands you should look for:

    - The Human Abstract (the album being Noctourne, back when they had A.J. Minette, not that bullshit they have with Andrew Tapley)

    - Symphony X

    - Pelican

and god damn i wish System of a Down wasn't on this hiatus nonsense. (although Serj has been working with Buckethead, so i can't much in the way complain)

But yeah, love the song, hate the lame youtube arguments.

  • Trivium and A7x really have some good sides, but symphony X are truly in all sence of the word just plain RAD. And as for DT let's face it they are the supreme emperors.

  • Meh, I've never really found DT all that listenable, tbqh.

  • "Whom the gods would destroy, they first make mad" A quote from a Euripides play. Its funny because before I even knew about this band I used that lyric in a song I wrote and adopted the name Uripitez a variation on the spelling of the play writers name.

  • Hard Rock? Creo que no.. Tremenda Banda

  • Where are they from?

  • USA... I think New Jersey but not sure...

  • Yes NJ

  • Fuckin killer song with a great groove and awesome musicianship and lyrics.

  • what's the name of the singer?

  • Allen Russel

  • Actually its Russell Allen. ;)

  • haha close, its Russell Allen :).

  • This is one of the few bands of my youth that remain sort of the same :(. Stratovarius died, Sonata Arctica turned gay, Dream Theater now sound like 10 minute Linkin Park songs (except for In the Presence of Enemies, that one rocks) and Nightwish is sort of girl pop now.

  • And I just realised Mike Baker from Shadow Gallery passed away. :(

  • pedazo de pelotudo

  • anda lavate el culo marica, ni siquiera eres suficientemente hombre para insultarme en el idioma en el que puse mi comentario.

  • "Some 80's band singer"? Hardly...

  • LOL, and whats wrong with an 80's band singer?

I'll have you know, the biggest and best singers came from the 80's era. Metal was at it's peak in these years. Heavy Metal guitar playing was at it's peak in this era.

I take it that you weren't there. I'm thinking the singer reminds me of Fates Warning. They never made it big. The singers voice sounds the same. Remember now, I'm saying "sounds" the same. Not "is" the same.

And 80's metal was the best there is.

The guitar in Orion is kick butt.

  • You implied by saying "some 80's band singer" that Allen is generic and indicative of the 80's in general. I happen to disagree and yes, I realize what "sounds like" means. 80's metal was not the "best", there is no best it's a subjective statement.

  • The 80's produced the best of what Metal has had.

Excuse me, Atleast back in the 80's they would show bands on Mtv and VH1.

Now it's all black music, rap, and the classics. Same with radio.

80's metal made millions more than what bands are making now.

    That's uncontested.

They were called the big 80's for a reason.

I'm sorry, but none of the bands right now can touch the likes of 80's metal bands and guitarists.

  • i agree the 80s had great bands...but they alo had a binch of hair metal crap...

  • Jesus, why are you arguing this? It is an OPINION. How much money a band makes is not an issue. Symphony X is my favorite metal band so obviously I personally prefer them over 80's bands, I don't go around wondering "Who made more money, Poison or Symphony X?" By your logic, Britney Spears is talented because she makes a lot of money.

  • I strongly disagree with this statement...in the 80's things really weren't much different from now...bands like Metallica, Megadeth, Iron Maiden may have been selling a lot, but other than that it was shitty hir metal, just like metalcore dominates metal today with a couple of good bands.

I think metal is a lot more diverse and technical these days, and to be honest with you I actually like the new style better, you just need to know the right bands.

  • I'm not saying these guys play for shit. In actuality, They do stand out from the rest.

Back in the 80's, metal was king.

Now, If you wanted technical, we had Malmsteen. If you wanted straight ahead stuff, that was old metallica. If you wanted fun bouncy type metal, Antrax.

    Judas Priest? Maiden? Slayer? Testament?

Accept? Flotsam & Jetsam? Dio? Motorhead? If you're into metal, You really can't knock these bands. These bands owned the stage. They are the very definition of METAL.

  • Don't forget Suicidal Tendencies, Sepultura, Loudness, The Scorpions, Dream Theater... And hundreds of other wicked Metal bands. Metal used to be a beautiful thing, and it still can be. But when you have asshats like Trivium and Avenged Sevenfold mucking it up for the rest of us, claiming they're metal when they're just carbon-copies of bands they never credit for their sucess and sound, yeah.

We have to dig deep, back to our roots. Back to the days of Metal. True Metal.

  • For me, I had to revert back to 60's and 70's hard rock. I just don't find that many interesting bands out there who appeal to me.

Now I know there are going to be people out there bashing me for saying this. But it's my opinion. Alot of them seem talented and gifted. But metal to means means a screaming ass lead guitar who isn't afraid to throw out blistering leads because people don't like it anymore. When I hear one of these new songs play and there's no lead guitar, it's souless.

  • shut the hell up irokutara trivium is the shit and so is symphony x and dream theater

  • Ah, no they're not. DT and Symphony X are gods among such putrescent filth as Trivium. "Oh yeah look at us we can sync our solos with the other guitarists in the band woooo!" Ninja please. ¬.¬ They have nothing going for them aside from sounding like other metal bands, IE Judas Priest and Maiden. They disgrace Metal. All of A7X, Trivium, the whole lot of the fags.

  • I agree as far as trivium is concerned. But I personally think A7X is a really good band. Particularly Waking the fallen.

  • rush? they don't sound like rush! xD

  • Okay, read this again, Maybe now you'll understand it.

They sound like a rush RIP-OFF.

You hear the complicated riffs? Not many bands do this.

And this is what i'm talking about.

  • ok, i still don't understand, but then again i'm not english...

  • loads of bands use 'complicated riffs'

  • No dude, only Rush rip-offs.

    /sarcasm

  • They aren't a rush rip-off, you only state that because they play the same genre of music.

  • Who said they're a rip-off? I'll crush them!

  • Good song, that part between 4:12 and 5:10 must be one of the most creative part in any prog metal.

  • why?

  • Because it sounds so tragic and the interplay between keyboards and other instruments is good.

  • nonono Dream Theater have a lot of proggy riffs =P

  • just because of the first 4 accents of the riff? naaaaaaaah..

  • i don't no why u ppl jump on these guys every metal band needs variety and that includes lame songs(this song does not fall in that catagory)+)

  • Reminds me of Castlevania. These guys murder.

  • haha castlevania, just they have the castlevania castle pic. on the video screen.

  • No, the music reminds me of Castlevania. Not the picture.

  • i don't see how making a poor production album is getting back at their record label

  • this song RULES!!!! its not poor.

  • it's strange, I think the sound of guitar is different in "twilight in olympus", it's a "Malmsteen"'s sound... What do you think about it man ?

  • Yeah, poor production quality. They did it on purpose because their record company screwed em over on The Divine Wings Of Tragedy. The song "smoke and mirrors" is about that. check out the lyrics, it's pretty cool.

  • symphony x is so perfect!!!

i need hear more and more

    i cân¨t stop

  • Just discovered these guys through watching a video of MR playijng the tapping section of Sea Of Lies. It was entitled "BEST TAPPING EVER" fuck were they right! hes so good, and holy shit does this band rock!!

    METAL FOR EVER MOTHERFUCKERS! \m/

  • Really cool song love these dudes!

  • this SX album has something different to the others; it's like more dense and elegant. I think this is the best they have done.

  • its more musically talented if you ask me, its more diverse, chord changes diminished, augmented runs all intertwined its just... so pleasing to the ears to hear people write proper music and play proper music

  • yeah!!

also the mix and the recording quality is the best they've had.

  • Actually, from a technical standpoint, its the worst besides their debut. They did it on purpose too to get back at their record label. As far as best production DWOT or V have it.

  • I dont know; it sounds better to my taste. I mean, everything is shinier like more mid-rangy or something; I like that sound. the guitars do not sound thin as usual and the drums have real color and have no triggering. The other ones sound to me like generic speed metal recordings.

  • I like the sound too, it's much more organic. I meant from a technical aspect (production wise). They purposefully under produced the album as a retaliation against the record company they were with (see Smoke & Mirrors). They finished this album in under a year, that's the quickest they've ever done an album. Two years later they released V under a new record company (Metal Blade). V was very well produced but I thought lacking musically. In my opinion the first four albums are the best.

  • V is my fuckin favorite album along with the divine wings of tragedy..

btw dream theater needed 3 weeks to get done with train of thought lol.

  • I think this album they tried to be too much like DT. There are some really good songs on here (mainly "Smoke & Mirrors" and "Church of the Machine"), but on a lot of the other songs, including this one, they seem to try to make it sound too much like Images & Words era DT, which is still good, but SX has their own style that works a lot better for them IMO.

  • True but at least they play DT style with a good vocalist.

  • yeah maybe but IMP DT is proggier =P

  • I never see a post so wrong like this. U fail in totally sense of listening. Anyways, in this era...too many fingers was acostumbrated to type just shit.

  • What are you talking about?!

  • DT it's the only progmetal band that u and all the people who post here talking from them know? god.

  • it's all about bad comparations.

  • great song

  • This song is so cool, I love the chorus. Symphony X rock! Thanks for the upload
