Loving the simple explanation of a complex subject. I have a feeling you are going to become very well known and much loved by parents as they come into contact with your work. keep the clips coming, they are wonderfully helpful.
While I agree that realizing when your child is able to be in their "mammalian brain" versus overwhelmed, etc, is so important, the beginning of this talk of the brain seems pretty geared towards nurture. The fact is that there are only going to be so many permutation that any given person will have of their personality because we are hardwired in some ways. For example, we may have A-G and nurture brings out B,D,G but it's never going to bring out M. But I completely agree with the parenting.
Also, I'm wondering if urges and impulses in children come from a certain part of the brain. For example, does the impulse to throw, or tip something over, or hit something come from the mammalian brain? In that case, we'd help them learn to use the neocortex to regulate. I was just thinking their might be impulse coming from each of the three parts of the brain.
Great explanation of how the brain works and how to use that knowledge when parenting. What are the types of things that shift the child from the human part to the mammalian?
I love what yoy're saying but I wouldve loved examples on how to talk to the middle brain and the fight n flight brain.
