  • 1:28 reminds me of taxi driver :D

  • "What’s a sweetheart like you doin’ in a dump like this?"

  • that part looked fun.

  • Life... is what? Can't hear :(

  • Hi brother needs to chat sian women busizz4me.info

  • LIFE IS FULL OF PERIL!

  • Great, thanks!

  • hahhahahhahahaha i lik this is cool lol

  • Brilliant

  • so much energy in this! i love the editing

  • can anyone tell me what does harry says at the very end???

is it something like : " life is fought/ full with terror/error "..im pretty sure i'm wrong..doesnt sound so logical...but um...please help hehe

  • life is fought with parrel

  • @Danringey Peril

  • thanks :)

  • life is fraught with peril

  • I like how there's a baby at the party.

  • the witches!its like the girl who gets sucked into the painting in Roald Dahls 'the witches'

  • This reminds me of someone I love very much!!!!

  • I usually HATE student films with a passion, but Scorsese's here seems to have so much energy. You can definitely see where his style in his feature length films came from.

  • I was rejected from every single art and film school I applied to. It got me down for a while but I'm kinda over it, the only thing that pisses me off is that a bunch of no talent film students are going to make generic, quirky, 2deep4u films while they attend starting in fall. And I have all of these great revolutionary ideas but these colleges want nothing to do with me.

  • @Gmancrap film school's overrated & all but dude you kinda sound full of yourself. " I have all of these great revolutionary ideas" - you might wanna tone that talk down a bit...fuck film school man & don't say, do

  • Calm down, I'm not full of myself. I'm upset at what some of the kids film schools do accepted make. Boring, pretentious, quirky, indie films is what I see these days when I got to film festivals and art shows. Something that seems to be happening more and more with film graduates. And yes, I'm sick of it.

I want to change that, and that's why I was hurt being rejected. Not necessarily that I'm jealous. Also don't say, wanna.

  • @Gmancrap if you have revolutionary ideas go out and do them. get your friends/people off the street/homeless people. film school gives you access to things but a really truely revolutionary idea as you said you have a bunch of... can be done without film school. Go do it and stay humble.

  • That's what I plan to do this summer. Still can't help but feel a little hurt.

  • I know it's just Truffaut feeling. I just like to see those early movies

  • i'd rather watch goodfellas

  • Also cool seeing Harvey Keitel in one (first?) of his earliest acting gigs.

  • Um, I don't think Keitel was in that at all. He wasn't in the credits anywhere.

  • I'm pretty sure Keitel isn't in this, it was made in 1963 and Keitel didn't start acting until 1966.

  • @ryangfilm Yeah Keitel isn't in this one, his first collaboration with Scorese was in Who's That Knocking At My Door/I Call First.

  • Even though this is Scorsese's first film ever, I can see the beginnings of what would later develop into his current style.

I liked this. Thanks for uploading!

  • i did not understand, but than again iam thick!

  • So I married her!

  • Genius...

sometimes the lack of Cutting-Edge Technology can actually promote better written Films...

  • Very cool film, pretty funny too!

  • Surrealistic ending. I like.

  • Cool stuff. Haven't heard too much about his early, early stuff.

  • really funny/weird

  • Sorry but what the hell was that about?

  • that was funny love it=]

  • Excellent.

Scorsese is a genius; one of the few directors who puts out a masterpiece with every work.

It's easy to see from these short films that he had it from the start.

  • one of the best short films ever great editing .. wouldnt ya say? for the 60s?

  • but, here in argentina no one knows this short films of scrosese. so what we want to do is people to know it

  • im about to do a remake of this with some friends.we also like scorsese

  • why would you? Remakes are pointless. It's a lot like making a movie from a good book. The book will always be better. Regardless, do whatever you want, whatever floats your boat.:)

  • @latona2205 Just because a book is good and mostly ends up being better doesn't mean it shouldn't be adapted at all. Some of the best films of all time are novel adaptations. I agree a remake almost never is better than its original, but it's always interesting to see a new spin on something. Perhaps a straight remake of this would be pointless but an Argentinian modern take on it may be interesting :)

  • Remakes at least highlight the original work for the public.

  • Its not so much about you being able to make something better in doing a remake as it is the principle of taking someone's baby and putting makeup on it and calling it your own. Whether you credit the original filmaker or not, thats what you're doing when you stand behind the concept of it needing to be remade.People these days hide behind the word 'hommage' and thats maybe supposed to mean something to the fans of the original film and or director, but it doesnt.

  • I agree that this is better than The Big Shave.

  • This is a much better short than "Big Shave", which everyone seems to go gah-gah over.

  • "It's Not Just You Murray" is my favorite.

  • I'd like to see "It's Not Just You Murray", but it's not here on YouTube. Anyone link?

  • did you manage to find it? i too am looking..

  • no :(( if you find please tell me :)

  • There's videos on here called Martin Scorsese FIRST FILMS 1/3. It has an interview with him about various things, but on part 2 and continuing to part 3, it has "It's Not Just You Murray"

  • thanks for that ;)

  • @raedeeohed

Dude, "The Big Shave" was a Vietnam statement, like Jimi playing the national anthem at Woodstock, BUT not only that. You could ask me who made this short, and I'd have no fucking idea, but "The Big Shave" has Scorsese's stylistic blueprints all over it.

  • thanks for this man

    ive been looking for it

  • I really like this. Moreso than Scorsese's other short film, 'The Big Shave'.

  • I find this comment funny coming from someone whos favorites include old 1980's body builder videos

  • I disagree, sometimes his movies had actual fleeting moments of content when he was paired with a screenwriter who he could build his reputation off of. :-)

  • shut the fuck up you retard.

  • who gave this less than a 5?

  • wonderful! kinda Felliniesque. Go figure.

  • this scorscese kid is definitely going places

  • Yeah thanks for posting this. Scorsese is an absolute legend.

  • thank you very much for posting this!

  • scorsese is a true genius

  • Somehow reminds me of Truffaut!!!

  • Indeed, very Truffaut.

  • I love this, seriously brilliant stuff! I particularly love his friend sitting in the dark room. One of the great things is you can see a lot of the ideas in this in later films like 'Taxi Driver' very clearly!

  • NICE~!!! would appreciate it if scorsese's other student films are uploaded.
