I'm told the sturmovik was heavily armored. Like a flying tank. It could take many h its and keep on fighting and flying.

@norb1937 True enough. It also handled like a bus with wings. It's interesting to compare the Sturmovik with fighters that went for manouverability over defence. The Japanese Zeros had *cough* zero armour and they flew like swallows on crack.

And I know, cuz my grandpa was a soviet soldier, and he told me that every time the German bastards were fighting with tanks, grandpa and his guys called on the radio to these babies and they came and blew the shit outta Germans.

Good video, but I hate the Soviets. I always love killing IL-2s. Hit the wing and it doesnt matter how much armour you have around the cockpit, its hard to fly with one wing hehehe

Really good video...except for the fact that it usually took a massive areal raid with the help of ground forces to take out a German base like that....Russian pilots weren't that good. Read Stuka Pilot, and you'll see what I mean.

I picked this up from my local video store's bargain bin. I wasn't expecting much from a 6 year-old video game, but after installing it and watching the tutorials and the 'films', I wondered where this was hiding all these years? Forget Microsoft. Americans have forgotten how to make a good flight combat sim. Oleg's game deserves the title of as one reviewer put it, The Caddilac of Armchair Flight Combat Simulators. Also, excellent video highlighting the impeccable dynamics of this creation.

Brewster Buffalos with German markings? are they supposed to be Finnish?(which would make them B-239s)Im pretty sure by the winter of 1944 the Finnish had upgraded from the B-239 to Me 109F's and G's. Good video though...

Its called IL2 Sturmovik, made by Ubisoft. I think the latest version is called Forgotten Battles and has many Axis and Allied X-Planes including jets and some that never got off the drawing board.

Caution, its not an easy game to play. You will have to spend some time and have patience and dedication. That has been my impression the few time I tried to play it. I have the software and plan to build a PC only because of this game.

By default I believe the controls are Ctrl+E to bail out with parachute, some of the later jets even have ejection seats.

Amazing! 5/5. Though in 1944 Luftwaffe seldom had the opportunity to outnumber/outgun the Soviet Air force. I think the last 'dog fights' were during the Korean conflict in the early '50s. After that there were no need to get closed to the opponent.

you might be able to if the game has ingame music, you would simply need to find the music file and replace it with your own music and make sure the title is the same as the original music(note: does not work for all games)
