  • it sucks that this was before i was even born !

  • thats kinda scary!

like that grey whale is HUGE!

what if it like breaks the tank and attacks some1??

  • "what if it like breaks the tank and attacks some1?? "

Yeah, and with gun laws as lax as they are, what if she got a hold of a handgun?

  • If it breaks the tank, it dies.

  • They did feed her phyto plankton and shrimp through a tube, but she was also yound enough to drink goat's milk.

  • she is adorable...I was so sad when they released her...but I understand why...it is just I think the public and myself miss her so much...

  • I agree

  • im confused, shes a grey whale, a baleen whale, that feeds on microscopic organisms, so how did they feed her? or was she still young enough to take in milk and formula?

  • @flargmuffin92 they can eat small fish

  • Thanks for the video! I have a few short clips that I took myself when JJ was around. We would drive down to SD from LA frequently to see her progress. I still remember the day when she was transported from Sea World back to the ocean. Truly a bittersweet moment.

  • I have question. Does anyone know why they didn't radio tag her when they released her? They where doing it the the early 80s and she was released in 98. So why not tag her?

  • I believe they did radio tag her, but the tags dropped off (or were scrapped off) in just a few days. YouTube won't let me post the URL, but Google found a page with the following:

By MICHELLE WILLIAMS Associated Press Writer SAN DIEGO (AP) -- ... shed both her transmitter packs in less than three days

at sea, Sea World spokeswoman Jonna Rae Bartges said.

  • Thanks :-)

  • I uploaded a video from the SeaWorld Podcast about JJ, and it says that they fell off.

  • Thank you for posting this!! I was lucky enough to see JJ when I was a kid and today after going whale watching I found myself wondering if we'd ever get the chance to see another Grey in captivity like this. Excellent video!

  • Glad you got to see JJ in person and enjoyed the video. Did you see any Greys while whale watching?

  • We did, we were lucky enough to spy 3 of them traveling together which, I'm told, is somewhat unusual.

  • she was a great little whale.

I was lucky enough to see her a few times.

And they havent heard/seen anything from her since she shed her transmitter.

  • wow - you saw JJ!! Lukcy thing!

  • We were lucky to see JJ. I wish I could go diving in that big tank. I wonder what happened to JJ? No sightings that I could find.
