I hate the new voices - especially since they pronounce Hakkai's name as "Hawk-eye" instead of how they did in the original. But I will say that I'm glad they got to put more emotion into their words and actions and kicked up the action scenes a bit more. I just wish they'd stuck with the original voice actors, or at least done something different with Sanzo's actor. The rest I can deal with, but Sanzo sounds...too manly.

I've just finished watching the first season (with japanese dub), so I can't tell whether this dub is bad in comparison to the eng dub in first season, but I don't think it's really THAT bad.

I mean, it could've been worse, right? ;)

okay many people hate the reload and love the gensomaden because of the voices well when my brother introduced to me saiyuki he made a mistake and showed me reload instead i was fine with the voices i loved it till i found out there was a gensomaden i was like tch no way its gonna be better i was wrong i love them both versions yes original sound nicer but does it matter and if you cant decide with you like better go to the Japanese version there in gensomaden and reload and gunlock

Well, ADV did Gensomaden, and ADV is located in Texas. I think Geneon got the rights for Reload and Gunlock, and I think they're using VAs from California. Don't quote me on this though.

@Vampiricspektor2 Greg Ayres didn't quit, a different company got the rights to dub Reload. Even though Greg also works at that company they didn't let him reprise the role. Same with the other actors. He was very upset to say the least. Instead of using the original actors they had new ones do their best impression of the old ones. Which didn't go well in my opinion...

As much as i adore the original voice actors, i'll admit that this group (aside from goku's) aren't too bad. sanzo is preety decent and so is Gojyo's (he sounds like a casanova which works) hakkai is doable but Goku's voice isn't that great in this one or the third one. by far this one is better than the third one. but both pale in comparison to the first. let's be happy this isn't horrificly horrible.

@theprincessofdragons I think....I vaguely recall something the director was saying, that the couldn't rehire the old cast for some reason or other, or they couldn't get them all to come back so they had to go different...I don't remember exactly but I think he would have prefered the originals as well.

Sorry but no. The Voice's are diffrent because the company that owned the rights for Saiyuki went under, it's dead. They had to sell the rights to Saiyuki Reload to a diff company, and the new company hired talentless hak's.

ADV has the rights to the original Saiyuki's translation in the US. Geneon has the rights to the translations of Reload and Gunlock. So the cast was changed.

While I don't mind the new voice actors in their own right (I mean, I LOVE Yuri Lowenthal and Lex Lang) they just aren't the original cast... No one can beat Illich's Gojyo, and David Matranga's Sanzo... Lex Lang's version of Sanzo sounds awful and Yuri just doesn't have the energy that Greg Ayres put into Goku. At least it seems that Hakkai's new voice actor is pretty close to the original.

The fact remains; I'll probably stick to the Japanese version from now on.

thats because of the different voice actors, for the first season adv films bought the english copyright, but for saiyuki reload and saiyuki reload gunlock geneon entertainment bought it so the the voices are the same for these two, but the original season was different
