It's called "Rubber knife" it's when you experience lag at the same time your knife hits the enemy, it's highly annoying, it also happens with defibrillators and other Melee attacks. As for the re-spawn invulnerability that's just your internet not being fast enough for your PS3 to detect that player was there after they spawn.

Very rarely does this happen to me, maybe once or twice and i have over 1,200 knife kills. something like this does happen in bf3 as well, unfortunatley! :( It stops you from doing the knife animation.

Also happened a few times where the guy was running like 5 metres ahead of me, i hit my knife button and the guy stops running and my guy goes for the kill.

1 hit is too overpowered, a soldier doesn't die in 1 stab.

However the respawn invulnerability is actually good, it prevents spawn killing and makes the game fair.

1)Press the quick knife button. Attacks quickly but requires 2 hits

2)equip the knife, kill people with one attack(may cause assassination animation)

Respawn invulnerability is not in BF3. The amount of times I died before the black screen even faded in when spawning on a squad member are numerous.

What is even more annoying is in conquest that you can spawn on an objective and get killed there immediately as well. A good attack squad can camp most of the spawn points so any defender spawning in gets killed instantly.

as soon as you see visual your invulnerability is vanished... now that's what I call fair.

Okay, here's how it works. When you choose to spawn your player model is created in game, at this time you'll be seeing the black screen, other players will see "you". However, until you actually take control of your player, the render is impervious (meaning that it is like a shield for everything behind it). That is respawn invulnerability.

This video really, really, brought back memories from BF2 (where hit detection was actually _horrid_). Half of the times you stabbed with the knife, you'd only cause a small dust cloud from the target, but no kill. Thankfully BF3 hit detection is grade A.
