Morgan Freeman, as he reads that final line... it just touches the longing in all of us... this is the greatest film that did not win as Oscar. Funny thing is as Forrest Gump (the film that swept the Academy that year) seems to decline, Shawshank rises and rises....
My friends are slowly fading away as I chase my dream, and I wanna keep em around but iv realised they are chasing their dreams too..And I guess theirs just include them 3 and not me, I feel like such a loner lately...but as the vid says, some birds aren't meant to be cages :'(
do people realize how good of a film this is...when people ask their family, friends, girlfriends/boyfriends and neighbors what is their favorite movie is...their answer should be "The Shawshank Redemption" it makes me sad that some people dont think this is a great movie it just goes to show JEALOUSLY...
The reason to why this is the best movie of all times is because it shows how you should never give up, chase your dream and overcome life's obstacles. Reach your fullest potential and cast your visions! This movie is magical indeed.
@Larryzelreh this is how i feel too you are absolutely right about everything u've said such a great film ,for me the best of all, no doubt and everyone has at least something to take from it..
"For the second time in my life, im guilty of committing a crime.. a role violation."
Swaping roles is key to solitude and Im glad that even a convict can break loose like Red did. Please people! Tsotsi is another movie you´ll love. Slightly rough, but it´ll wet your eyes in the end. ;)
I lost a friend that I had sense the 6th grade. The only change it that he used to live with his mom. And I lived with my dad. Now I live with my mom and he lives with his dad. We used to live within walking distance and we would spend the night on school nights. Now we don't even talk to each other, and we didn't fight at all! The last time we hung out was Summer. I haven't changed and neither has he. Anyone know what the hell is up? Or anything I should do?
The Pacific Ocean. You know what the Mexicans say about the Pacific Ocean?- they say that it has no memory... and that's where I want to live the rest of my life. A warm place that has no memory.
It's called the Shawshank Redemption because Andy causes Red to refuse to commit suicide. If Andy wasn't committed then Red's fate would have been that fo Brooks. Anyone who doesn't love this movie is a snob.
this scene always reminds me of my friend who's going away to college. his feathers are just too bright. but still, the place i live in will be that much more drab and empty when he's gone...
Paardon my French lol...I always laugh whenever I hear Morgan Freeman ("Red") say: "Andy Dufresne, who crawled through a river of shit and, came out clean on the other side"
I wanna kiss Stephen King's hand for writing this story....how can he write such a story!! He has to be a God....it gives me shivers down my spine everytime I watch this movie........!!!
i think the "I guess I just miss my friend" just underscores despite Red's philosophical manner and nature the simple truth that he accepts instead of finding a reason for his sadness
This is movie is just perfect. Words cant describe how good and powerful it is, neither can videos like this. People who havent watched this movie really dont know what they are missing. Watching this movie is one of the things that has to be on every mans "to do before i die" list. There are great movies like Godfather, Matrix, Pulp Fiction etc. The Shawshank redemption is just on a whole other level. Please, watch it if you havent.
A good friend of mine passed away last week. We dedicated a shirt to him and on the back of it was this quote. It was his favorite quote from one of his favorite movies. Its very powerful. This movie was so awsome.
great movie and im a big movie buff and when he says i guess i just miss my friend one of the only a few parts of any movie that will make me cry every time
It really is the little things about this movie that make it so amazing. For example, the expression on Red's face as the prisoners are telling Andy stories - he laughs along with them, but his expression becomes somber in reflection just as the narration says "Sometimes it makes me sad, though ..." Also, the piano kicking in at 1:29 in the clip, perfectly and subtly timed with Red looking up and reflecting. I know some people think it's over-rated, but by any standard, this is an amazing film.
I have to remind myself that some birds aren't meant to be caged. Their feathers are just too bright and when they fly away, the part of you that knows it was a sin to lock them up does rejoice, but still, the place you live in is that much more drab and empty that they're gone.
My brother was my bestfriend and right now hes getting deployed to Japan with N Korea setting of nukes right across the sea... my other best friend literally went insane!!!! goddamit "i guess i just miss my friend" too...
the part where he plays the record over the PA, it makes me cry with happiness, as gay as that sounds. i want to know what that's like, and i would take the beating for it too.
I think that this is one of the best scenes of the movie. I love Red, because he's not jaleous of Andy's escape. When he's laughing by watching the map, we feel that Red is really happy for Andy. It's a great proof of friendship...
@salahudin100 A better proof of friendship would've been protecting him when he was getting sexually harrased by a bunch of dudes. After all, he was a "man who knows how to get things"....should've got him some help.
Perfect scene....I have to remaid myself that some birds aren't meant to be caged....There feathers are just to bright. And when they fly away the part of you that knows it was a sin to lock them up does rejoices, but still, the place you live in is that much more drab and empty that they're gone...I guess I just miss my friend"
I certainly agree with that statement. I've seen that scene many times now, and it always brings tears to my eyes. Makes me think of old friends whom I miss
1:05 I have to remind myself that some birds aren't meant to be caged. Their feathers are just too bright. And when they fly away, the part of you that knows it was a sin to lock them up does rejoice. But still... the place you live in is that much more drab and empty that they're gone. "some birds arent meant to be caged, there feathers are just to bright and when they fly away the part of you that knows it was a sin to lock them up does rejoice but still the place that you drag and live in is just as empty that there gone i guess i just miss my friend..."
after i read this from the stephen king short story compilation, different seasons, i could not believe that the King could write such a beautiful story. i knew at that moment that stephen king was my generations jack london. if you all havent read the stories from different seasons..go to the library. they are awesome
Long before I read the short story by King. I was in love with the movie. To find it in a book accidently like 10 years ago was such a prize to me. I can never get tired of this movie. King is awsome writer. Have you read any more of Kings books? I guess I like prison storie cause Green Mile is another excellent book.
"Some birds aren't meant to be caged, their feathers are just to bright. And when they fly away, the part of you that knows it was a sin to lock them up does rejoice. But still... the place you live in is that much more drab and empty now that they're gone..." - says it all.. and what a great narration. That's one of my favorite quotes. Amazing!

Amazing!
