I wish the original Trijang Rinpoche was still alive. I imagine that in the same line of reasoning as the DL regarding the special bond of Teacher and student, as the Teacher, Trijang could say all of his students have the freedom to practice or reject the longstanding Protector Buddha Dorje Shugden, but those who reject have no place receiving teachings from him (Trijang Rinpoche). That would put the DL in a tough situation, entangled by his own narrow logic.

For a real practician, all those stuff is very not important, keep your practice of meditation, finding happyness. But asian are like everybody, buddism is only a hobby for them, they put some coin for chance, make stupid and askful prayer without concience. It is really quite bewildering. First there is the ban that led to many losses. Then there is an exception. By giving this exception to the current Trijang Rinpoche does it not affirm his Guru is right without having HHDL to say so? Sometimes we should look at actions and not words alone. By setting an exception we can see it as negative or positive.
If all governments enforce a law on the public but gives an exception to an individual, what does it say? Let's say the law is not to kill. There should never be an exception because one exception leads to another exception. What kind of example does it set?

@auroreaurelin I agree with you. It cannot be that there is an exception for any ban or any law. Why was there an exception? It was never explained. There is no valid reason for exception. If Shugden is evil spirit, then nobody should practice it. If someone can practice, why not many (notice I didn't say everyone)?
It´s not a general ban. Anyone who wants to practice can do so, but not in Gelug monasteries. They can practice in their own monasteries and follow their own teachers. They are breakaway groups with close links to China.
Trijang Choktrul Rinpoche does not want to be a part of this.
But Dalai Lama's instruction for those who wish to practice dorje shugden was - not to take initiation from him (meaning can obtain initiation from other high lamas?, as long as the initiation doesnt come from him!) - opening doorway for this great spiritual lineage to continue????

By H.H.DL allowing Trijang Rinpoche doing Ds pratice again, it show DL has open the gate again for Ds pratice continue. By DL allowing the current reincarnation of Trijang Rinpoche to practise DS is a true sign that DS cannot be an evil spirit, becasue if DS can harm DL, then DS can also harm Tirjang Rinpoche too.
DL advised all the others that if they want to do DS practice, then they should not take initiations or teaching from him. I think he is paving the way for himself to pass away, which with all respect, he will one day.
As i understand it, Buddhism's middle way philosophy says that we must avoid extremes. If we are to look at the issue of D.S.and the DL , by taking a position of right and wrong from either side - the DS supporters or the pro DL;s camp, then it will nave problems. The bigger picture explanation is the most beneficial option to adopt at the level of our ordinary minds.In samsaric realms even the best solution cannot be perfect .
Trijang Rinpoche allowed to practice DS, DS cannot be a evil spirit. Trijang Rinpoche is such a high lama, HHDL seem contradicted with his action and to me there is no wrong & right with regards this ban, ultimately, there is a bigger picture behind the ban.
Enlightened beings like the Dalai Lama are omniscient and know what they are doing. By allowing Trijang Rinpoche to practice Dorje Shugden, he is showing us that opinions like "right" or "wrong" are empty and therefore impermanent.
When HHDL ban the practice of DS, and he said Trijang Rinpoche can practice, doesn't it sound contradict? A high Lama like HHDL will do something so contradictory? has anyone think deeper into what is it actually happen??? or why HHDL wanted to do so?
I dare not say my point of view is correct, but if it is as what i thought, then HHDL is definitely one of the most compassion person that i can ever met in the world.
Why made an exception to allow Trijang Rinpoche to practise DS? HHDL said those who practise DS should not receive initiation from him. HHDL seems to imply they can practise DS. Then why ban DS practice? Let DS practitioners have the basic human right of religious freedom. Ultimately all sentient beings have to bear the consequences of their own actions including their religious beliefs. Why stop and prevent DS practitioners do what they want?
If Dorje Shugden is a demon, why the exception for Trijang Rinpoche to practise? I so agree with danielstevens1946 that one highly attained lama would not be able to reincarnate back as a human if one practises a demon. Again is Dorje Shugden a demon???
Well, if Trijang Rinpoche can practice, what about his assistants? They have to assist in the setting up and clearing up and be at the side of Rinpoche to assist. If Dorje Shugden is truly a spirit, why allow Trijang Rinpoche to practice and not others? It can only mean that Dorje Shugden is not a spirit but an enlightened being and the practice would never do harm to anyone.

@wasupdearie The disparity is born in the need for the DL to address: facilitating the effective development of the exile government of Tibet for the 21st century (secular society); Clarifying the relationship of the wanting followers of DS in relation to the exile government(by its very construct DS cannot accommodate a secular society); Being mindful of the well-being of millions of Tibetans in and out ofTibet(use of language to reach tibetans which to foreigners may be lost in translation).
Its contradict because if Dorje Shugden is a spirit but how come H.H.Dalai Lama allowed Trijang Rinpoche to continue to practice.. Would Dorje shugden harm Trijang rinpoche? if so, he would not allow. i think that H.H.Dalai lama has a highest reason to say such contradict things which anyone who listen will know the face. He is so compassion to let people to criticize him to make Dorje Shugden grow.
This is interesting topic for the public, because Dalai Lama has gave permission to Trijiang Rinpoche practice dorje shuden. I think a clear sign this protector or deity not evil. The reason is Trijiang Rinpoche is a high lama and also well-known as Dalai lama's tutor. As one of the Dalai Lama's root guru still continue practice this deity, Dalai Lama also allowed it happen. If we think deeper, this may be one of the way this two high lamas used skillful method to benefit sentient beings.
I so agree with Empress Benz, it makes no sense that Dorje Shugden's practice be one of a demon, then why would the Dalai Lama make exceptions to his ban?
Then also, how could Trijang Rinpoche have re-incarnated and be re-cognized by His Holiness, when one who practices a demon is not to be taking re-birth as a human, let alone have control over his re-births...

HH is sad that He was not able to meet Trijang Rinpoche in Switzerland. HH further went to say that he wanted to do a divination. Now that Rinpoche is allowed to continue this practice, what does it mean - that Rinpoche by continuing the practice will not shorten the life of HH but if others practise, it will? Why should that be?

Therefore I think DL is definitely pushing for DS to grow bigger in an indirect way. For anything huge/revolutionary, always there is some type of sacrifice or obstacle that we have to go through. Just look at America, so many colored ppl suffered before there was FREEDOM/EQUALITY. Today, America's president is a colored man - who wld have thought! So who knows, maybe in the near future DS practice is norm in many households. I'm sure Trijang Rinpoche is not just practicing it solitary.

This to me seem another glimpse of the Dalai Lama's plan to prepare for Dorje Shugden to be big. Perhaps when the Dalai Lama is gone, he has pre-selected Kyabje Trijang Rinpoche's current incarnation to take up the mantle to guide Shugden followers. He may be young now but he will grow up and he will eventually be ready to lead he masses even when he says he can't at the moment.
I think that the Dalai Lama is a really understanding person and he does not do stuff randomly. I think it seems that he is allowing this practice in this video as long as we do not have anything to do with the Dalai Lama. Dorje Shugden is a practice that every can do because it belongs to every lineage because he is enlightened.
Whatever the contradictions and illogic, it is heartening and very inspiring to see a whole new generation of new lamas like Trijang Rinpoche "holding the fort" and stepping in to bring forth a new way of Dharma in the world. The dalai lama will eventually pass away so it is actually very necessary for this new generation to arise strongly now. Thank you to all the great lamas for all their courage.
@honeydakini How do we know all these difficulties aren't to clear obstacles for us in the future? The practice has already been predicted by Pabongka Rinpoche to become very relevant to our time (his prediction about Vajra Yogini was right). Maybe we undergo hardship now, to create conducive conditions for later.
See the funny thing is that if Trijang Rinpoche is allowed to practice, then wouldn't that also mean that ALL the people in the ladrang, his family etc would also be involved somehow? Trijang Rinpoche isn't going to be the only one setting up the pujas, doing the offerings, reciting the prayers all by himself, is he? His whole ladrang would be involved. And Trijang Rinpoche is a teacher - so surely whatever practices he is doing would be passed on to his disciples eventually.
Hmmm...interesting - HHDL did a Dorje Shugden divination? Also, HHDL allows Trijang Rinpoche can practise Dorje Shugden but bans all Dorje Shugden practitioners to come to his teachings as he does not want anything to do with them.

Even tho Trijang Rinpoche has disrobed, he is still a practitioner. The wonderful thing is he doesn't say negative things about the Dalai Lama. During his previous incarnation as HHDL's junior tutor, he advised to not lose faith in the Dalai Lama and to not lose faith in Dorje Shugden. Powerful example of Dharma.
I still can't get over this video. The Dalai Lama says that he was going to do a divination (but he doesnt elaborate if he did or not) and that he would let Trijang Rinpoche practice. If DS is a demon and will shorten HHDL's life and harm Tibet's fight for independence, how come he'll let Trijang Rinpoche practice? Very illogical.

@dragonthunder2010 well, what's for sure is that in spite of the ban, Dorje Shugden's practice is flourishing in the world and practitioners are holding on to their faith stronger than ever.
And with the "controversy", more and more people are hearing about holy Dorje Shugden and learning about his lineage, practice etc. In the long run, this practice is certainly not dying down or being suppressed.
I think HH Trijang Choktrul Rinpoche's firmness on his practice and Guru Devotion is something we can all be inspired. If someone like Trijang Rinpoche still continues with his protector practice it must mean and say something. And that definitely Dorje Shugden is not evil or a "spirit" and that all this rubbish is just political rubbish.
Just be yourself, be true, sincere and do your practice, in time all will be revealed. Guru samaya is far more important then worldly samsara issues.
Many Gelugpa Lamas do not openly state support for Dorje Shugden because of the political issues involved. I really think politics should not mix with religion but what the hell do i know. It's not a matter of accepting or not accepting - maybe you should accept that Dorje Shugden is becoming the most well known Dharma Protector in the world! :)

@wisdombeing i also think many lamas do not comment on this issue because commenting necessarily involves speaking for or against one lama or other (politics!) and the monks of the monasteries are real genuine practitioners who focus only on their practice and not on judging the actions of others.
@TheRedNiece yes i agree with you - i do think that you can tell the calibre of the Lama by how he acts - whether he criticises others or not. Similarly we can tell the calibre of Shugden because he also tells us not to criticise...
We should follow HH Trijang Rinpoche example and practice patiently and quietly.
He doesn't criticise HH the Dalai Lama either but remain neutral. He does not break his Guru samaya also because he is still practicing what he knows is truth and right.
We will eventually lose everything even our country when we die, hence Dharma is more important then political agendas. Truth will always revel itself in the end. And if Dorje Shugden is a demon he would have been killed along time ago already.
A lot of the reasons given by HH the Dalai Lama on the Ban makes no sense with no clear evidence. It is just a point of view and it does not valid to force soemone to give up their faith or break their Guru samaya.
There is no need to disrespect His Holiness, there is no need for any Ban. Anyone shld be able to practice what they wish, India is a free Democratic country. No one shld suffer for what they believe. There is no side to take except your own inner side & commitments to your Guru.
Trijang Rinpoche incarnation being back clearly shows he is not practicing anything wrong, evil or worldly. For if it is, he would have not taken rebirth and incarnate back.

TheRedNiece, I cannot possibly agree with you that NKT doctrine supports this friendship with the Dalai Lama. If you are really a practitioner, you know yourself that his books are not even allowed in our libraries.
Trijang Rinpoche has made a strong statement already by making the move to Shar Gaden but at the same time he remains very respectful of the Dalai Lama and maintains very excellent friendly relations with him. He is an exemplary inspiration to all that in spite of the differences we may have in our practices, we can still be respectful and kind towards each other.
it is wonderful how much strength Trijang Rinpoche has shown in these difficult times. He is a real pillar of strength to DS practitioners everywhere and it is this next generation of lamas who will make Dorje Shugden's practice flourish anew in the world.
Dorje Shugden could not be subdued by the 5th Dalai Lama or other Lamas until now, even with fire puja. If DS is an evil spirit, then he must be stronger than the enlightened Lamas. This is not possible. DS is indestructible...logically, it's rather clear what nature he is.

I think it's important to understand what other people are going through and to understand the practice and issue better through different perspectives. I admire Trijang Rinpoche that he just wants to practice in peace and that he would even disrobe for this principle. My postings on the youtubes are not to be political at all but to simply give an alternative view. A lot of pro Shugden practitioners are very critical of the Dalai Lama and since they have personally been hurt by the ban - emotionally and physically, i can empathise. However, my stance is different.
1) The Dalai Lama's ban on Shugden practice is illogical
2) To not criticise the Dalai Lama.
Now, 1) and 2) are not contradictory as I can pick apart the illogical basis of the ban without criticising the Dalai Lama. I think that the Dalai Lama has created this all for a reason and i'm glad to see many others who also think so. In the end, it's conjecture and only time will tell.
On the contrary, to Western audiences the Dalai Lama repeatedly says that he issued this ban In order to save this pure and profound Tibetan Buddhism from degenerating into spirit worship. And This ban is applied in order to promote peace and harmony between the four Tibetan Buddhist traditions.
@TheDharmaKnight this is an illogical statement because if you study the actual nature of Dorje Shugden practice, it promote only enlightened activities and the Dharma. Nothing in the practice nor in the history of practitioners can we find proof that it has threatened "peace and harmony btwn the 4 buddhist traditions".

The justification given to the Tibetan public by DL, which destroyed the entire harmony of the Tibetan community, is: Worshipping this evil deity is a danger for my life and for the freedom of Tibet. If you Tibetans want me to be dammed and dont care at all about the cause of Tibet, then go ahead with the worship of this deity.
@TheDharmaKnight how can any practice endanger the life of the dalai lama who is not only a tibetan monk who has taken refuge vows that protect us from spirits, but also an emanation of Chenrezig? Is that to say that this so-called spirit is more powerful than Chenrezig, a fully enlightened buddha?

if you read the biographies of great masters on the dorjeshugden - dot - com website you'll notice that their practice, their teachings and benefit to the world, and their enlightened wishes for others is NO DIFFERENT to any other Dharma practitioner. They are so great for their sincere lifelong practice which focuses only on being of benefit to others. It is such a shame that this DS has turned them into "bad guys" when they are actually such good n inspiring examples of spirituality
it is indeed very inspiring to learn about the flourishing dharma work and study at the monasteries that have started anew - Serpom & Shar Gaden. Very beautiful to see practitioners holding so strongly to their faith and belief.
Isn't it ironic that actually, all the dharma they have learnt and are practising is exactly the same, and from the same lineage teachers as all the other gelug monasteries. The essence of Tsongkhapa's teachings remain the same actually
DharmaDefender: thank you for the apt reminder. It is very important and central to our practice to remember what our focus should be - which is Je Tsongkhapa, lamrim and ultimately, Lord Buddha's teachings which are the same, whatever school we follow.
There is a good video here where Geshe Kelsang Gyatso explains relationship btwn DS and Tsongkhapa - very important to us to understand this so we never forget the main focus of our practice which is to achieve the same great mind as Tsongkhapa

I would say that serpom and shar gaden monasteries are walking the same path as HH Trijang Rinpoche. While a little public about going against the ban. It's still making an environment to practice in peace.
@wangchub They are walking the same path. I had a look at Serpom Monastery's site, and it's all about the Dharma and supporting the monks, and very little to do with Dorje Shugden. They still do his practice but their main function is to practise Lama Tsongkhapa's teachings. This is a clear reflection of Dorje Shugden's purpose where he is 'just' a protector and his job is to protect Lama Tsongkhapa's teachings.
@wangchub However, the way they were established means their names become inextricably linked to the issue, and to Dorje Shugden...and in reality, I think all they want to do is just practise in peace, and not get caught up in the politics. In response to a thread on the dorjeshugden{DOT}com forum, I said that in the midst of this hullabaloo about Dorje Shugden, we seem to forget that Lama Tsongkhapa is the source of our teachings...however, Serpom and Shar Gaden never forget this.
Yes thats correct, I have seen the sites, they all talk about learning buddhism, training in spirtual programs. All from Tsongkhapa's lineage. They look organised and reputable compared to the anti shugden sites on the web. Why would anyone openly promote their DS practice in this climate, and anyway why should they as its a secret practice... well errrr sorta now with all the promotion :)
Dorje Shugden is a fully enlightened being and therefore can be practiced as a Yidam. However, he manifested in this form to protect Lama Tsongkhapa's teachings. Hence, his Kangsol is meant to solicit him as protector but rest assured that his assistance would bring about the best and most enlightened results for us. Those who have practiced him would know what I mean.
Choktrul Trijang Rinpoche as a lay person, of course he still can teach. Although rare, but there are Gelug teachers that are teaching as lay teachers. For example Gelek Rinpoche is teaching in the west. Besides, Choktrul Rinpoche didn't disrobe, he return his vows and there is a huge difference. Someone who has returned his vows didn't break his vows and therefore, can take the vows again while those who have disrobed, have broken the vows and cannot take the vows again in this life.
Thank you closerelative for that clarification! It is such a skillful way that these highly attained masters have managed to preserve the teachings and practices of sacred Tantra. Dorje Shugden is a Dharma protector for those on the path to tantra i've been told. Hence his practice is also very sacred and his assistance is very quick. He can also be called the Yidam? Because he and manjushri are one. Do tell us more :0)
@dragonthunder2010 I'd like to add to closerelative's explanation of Dorje Shugden as an enlightened Being. His name is an indication of his enlightened nature. 'Shug' means power and 'den' means irreversible...the only being with irreversible power is a Buddha, because irreversibility is contrary to the impermanent nature of samsara, and only Buddhas are out of samsara.

Imagine that all the odds are against them but they can still achieve so much - they show what can be accomplished when they are committed to their practice and act always without hurting anyone.
Whatever it is the fact that Trijang Rinpoche is being able to practice Dorje Shugden is enough to inspire all of us. With all that is being done and said about him, HH Trijang Rinpoche remains humble and never criticize HH the Dalai Lama! That is the beauty and quality of a Shugdenpa.
And I am sure HH Trijang Rinpoche will be teaching and passing on practices including Dorje Shugden to his followers now and in to the future :)

HH always scolds his own sect and students not the others just like mother always correcting her own children first. HHDL says there may not be another future Dalai Lama and the current Karmapa agrees also in a recent interview. In the Karmapa's previous life, he is known to have said that in future we will need Dorje Shugden. Read it all in dorjeshugden (dot) com forums and connect the dots!
As HHDL's time on earth gets shorter day by day, HHDL is really going all out in preparing for Dorje Shugden's time to prevail. Why else would he allow HH Trijang Choktrul Rinpoche continue practicing DS? HH is skillfully preserving this lineage practice without creating fear in others of dislike due to political agendas.
i am impressed with the young HH Trijang Rinpoche who has disrobed because he wants to practise Dorje Shugden and he does not want to get involved with politics. He said in an interview that he does not want to become the figurehead of the pro-Shugden movement and just wants to quietly practise. May we all follow his example and not be political.

HH Trijang Rinpoche is so patient and kind that even with the death threats he received that pushed him to move out of his Labrang in Gaden, he never once said anything negative about HHDL. Instead has remain objective, respectful, humble and continues his DS practice. Qualities we can emulate.

Perhaps he clairvoyance reveals to him that DS must continue after his passing (apologies for this statement) for a bigger benefit of every sentient being: A cause bigger and beyond Tibet and himself. Why allow Trijang Rinpoche to practice a spirit that harms the Dalai Lama's life and I hear that Trijang Rinpoche was ordained by the Dalai Lama himself. Wouldn't that endanger the Dalai Lama as he has direct connection? Also why continue a practice that promotes sectarianism and especially to one of the highest incarnation of Tibetan Buddhism.

Very inspirational and shows what Dorje Shugden's practice is all about: Dharma, compassion and wisdom.

I believe that there's a bigger picture DL is planning. By allowing Trijang to practice, he paves the way for a new generation of lamas to take over n make Dharma stronger in the world, with DS practices.

He has attendants, students, sponsors... so they will all be somehow connected to DS too. They sponsor his practice, they set up & participate in the pujas with him. So actually, w/ Trijang Rinpoche, many hundreds more will get to practise DS too... and I'm sure Dalai Lama knows that.

It is humans that act in sectarian ways, through their speech or by oppressing/attacking other sects. It is sad that this has gotten mixed up with the practices itself. If you look at the teachings about DS & his prayers/practices, it encourages only harmony & sincere Dharma practice.
The argument about sectarianism of Dorje Shugden practitioners sounds like just another unfounded rumour. Actually, everyone else is being sectarian with them. Practitioners of Dorje Shugden are deliberately segregated on all levels and they cannot associate with those who do not practice. If that is not sectarian, what is?
Practising Shugden does not make any Buddhist tradition better than another. I have not seen Dorje Shugden anywhere declare through oracles to step on anyone. In fact the reverse is true - that he tells his followers to not criticise and to respect the Dalai Lama. If DS is so violent and will destroy all those who are against him, wouldn't the Dalai lama and TGIE and all those who have criticised him be dead. I beg your pardon but they all look pretty healthy to me. It's not logical.

AT that time Trijang Choktrul Rinpoche was still very young and it is only fair for him to say that and not get all mixed up with politics. He was smart enough to disrobe so that he will not disrespect HHDL as well as not forsaking his Loyalty to his Guru and Dorje Shugden.

I wish the original Trijang Rinpoche was still alive. I imagine that in the same line of reasoning as the DL regarding the special bond of Teacher and student, as the Teacher, Trijang could say all of his students have the freedom to practice or reject the longstanding Protector Buddha Dorje Shugden, but those who reject have no place receiving teachings from him (Trijang Rinpoche). That would put the DL in a tough situation, entangled by his own narrow logic.

For a real practician, all those stuff is very not important, keep your practice of meditation, finding happyness. But asian are like everybody, buddism is only a hobby for them, they put some coin for chance, make stupid and askful prayer without concience. It is really quite bewildering. First there is the ban that led to many losses. Then there is an exception. By giving this exception to the current Trijang Rinpoche does it not affirm his Guru is right without having HHDL to say so? Sometimes we should look at actions and not words alone. By setting an exception we can see it as negative or positive.

It´s not a general ban. Anyone who wants to practice can do so, but not in Gelug monasteries. They can practice in their own monasteries and follow their own teachers. They are breakaway groups with close links to China.
Trijang Choktrul Rinpoche does not want to be a part of this.

By DL allowing the current reincarnation of Trijang Rinpoche to practise DS is a true sign that DS cannot be an evil spirit, becasue if DS can harm DL, then DS can also harm Tirjang Rinpoche too.
DL advised all the others that if they want to do DS practice, then they should not take initiations or teaching from him. I think he is paving the way for himself to pass away, which with all respect, he will one day.

As i understand it, Buddhism's middle way philosophy says that we must avoid extremes. If we are to look at the issue of D.S.and the DL , by taking a position of right and wrong from either side - the DS supporters or the pro DL;s camp, then it will nave problems. The bigger picture explanation is the most beneficial option to adopt at the level of our ordinary minds.In samsaric realms even the best solution cannot be perfect .

Enlightened beings like the Dalai Lama are omniscient and know what they are doing. By allowing Trijang Rinpoche to practice Dorje Shugden, he is showing us that opinions like "right" or "wrong" are empty and therefore impermanent.

When HHDL ban the practice of DS, and he said Trijang Rinpoche can practice, doesn't it sound contradict? A high Lama like HHDL will do something so contradictory? has anyone think deeper into what is it actually happen??? or why HHDL wanted to do so?

Why made an exception to allow Trijang Rinpoche to practise DS? HHDL said those who practise DS should not receive initiation from him. HHDL seems to imply they can practise DS. Then why ban DS practice? Let DS practitioners have the basic human right of religious freedom. Ultimately all sentient beings have to bear the consequences of their own actions including their religious beliefs. Why stop and prevent DS practitioners do what they want?

Well, if Trijang Rinpoche can practice, what about his assistants? They have to assist in the setting up and clearing up and be at the side of Rinpoche to assist. If Dorje Shugden is truly a spirit, why allow Trijang Rinpoche to practice and not others? It can only mean that Dorje Shugden is not a spirit but an enlightened being and the practice would never do harm to anyone.

@wasupdearie The disparity is born in the need for the DL to address: facilitating the effective development of the exile government of Tibet for the 21st century (secular society); Clarifying the relationship of the wanting followers of DS in relation to the exile government(by its very construct DS cannot accommodate a secular society); Being mindful of the well-being of millions of Tibetans in and out ofTibet(use of language to reach tibetans which to foreigners may be lost in translation).

This is interesting topic for the public, because Dalai Lama has gave permission to Trijiang Rinpoche practice dorje shuden. I think a clear sign this protector or deity not evil. The reason is Trijiang Rinpoche is a high lama and also well-known as Dalai lama's tutor. As one of the Dalai Lama's root guru still continue practice this deity, Dalai Lama also allowed it happen. If we think deeper, this may be one of the way this two high lamas used skillful method to benefit sentient beings.

I so agree with Empress Benz, it makes no sense that Dorje Shugden's practice be one of a demon, then why would the Dalai Lama make exceptions to his ban?
Then also, how could Trijang Rinpoche have re-incarnated and be re-cognized by His Holiness, when one who practices a demon is not to be taking re-birth as a human, let alone have control over his re-births...
There are so many contradictions in this ban of Dorje Shugden, they are all pointing to a bigger picture at play.

Therefore I think DL is definitely pushing for DS to grow bigger in an indirect way. For anything huge/revolutionary, always there is some type of sacrifice or obstacle that we have to go through. Just look at America, so many colored ppl suffered before there was FREEDOM/EQUALITY. Today, America's president is a colored man - who wld have thought! So who knows, maybe in the near future DS practice is norm in many households. I'm sure Trijang Rinpoche is not just practicing it solitary.

It is obvious that the Dalai Lama contradicts himself massively with the reasons he give for the Ban as discussed very logically on dorjeshugden (dot) com - A Contradiction or A Bigger Picture? Now hwy would someone like the Dalai Lama do that unless it is done purposely/premeditated to make Ds practice bigger and Ds more publicized. Ds is the talk on the town bcoz of DL. So what is the next step for those practicing? Shldn't we start preparing for those newbies who are earger to know n learn?

This to me seem another glimpse of the Dalai Lama's plan to prepare for Dorje Shugden to be big. Perhaps when the Dalai Lama is gone, he has pre-selected Kyabje Trijang Rinpoche's current incarnation to take up the mantle to guide Shugden followers. He may be young now but he will grow up and he will eventually be ready to lead he masses even when he says he can't at the moment.

I think it seems that he is allowing this practice in this video as long as we do not have anything to do with the Dalai Lama. Whatever the contradictions and illogic, it is heartening and very inspiring to see a whole new generation of new lamas like Trijang Rinpoche "holding the fort" and stepping in to bring forth a new way of Dharma in the world. The dalai lama will eventually pass away so it is actually very necessary for this new generation to arise strongly now. Thank you to all the great lamas for all their courage.

See the funny thing is that if Trijang Rinpoche is allowed to practice, then wouldn't that also mean that ALL the people in the ladrang, his family etc would also be involved somehow? Trijang Rinpoche isn't going to be the only one setting up the pujas, doing the offerings, reciting the prayers all by himself, is he? His whole ladrang would be involved. And Trijang Rinpoche is a teacher - so surely whatever practices he is doing would be passed on to his disciples eventually.

Hmmm...interesting - HHDL did a Dorje Shugden divination? Also, HHDL allows Trijang Rinpoche can practise Dorje Shugden but bans all Dorje Shugden practitioners to come to his teachings as he does not want anything to do with them.
So, does it mean - indirectly, HHDL is saying that those who want to practise Dorje Shugden can continue to do so like Trijang Rinpoche?

Even tho Trijang Rinpoche has disrobed, he is still a practitioner. The wonderful thing is he doesn't say negative things about the Dalai Lama. During his previous incarnation as HHDL's junior tutor, he advised to not lose faith in the Dalai Lama and to not lose faith in Dorje Shugden. Powerful example of Dharma.

I still can't get over this video. The Dalai Lama says that he was going to do a divination (but he doesnt elaborate if he did or not) and that he would let Trijang Rinpoche practice. If DS is a demon and will shorten HHDL's life and harm Tibet's fight for independence, how come he'll let Trijang Rinpoche practice? Very illogical.

The Shugden practice has stopped in the Gelug monasteries, that´s all.
Shugden monks have their own monasteries now. It´s not a general ban. But it´s no longer a part of the Gelug tradition.

And with the "controversy", more and more people are hearing about holy Dorje Shugden and learning about his lineage, practice etc. In the long run, this practice is certainly not dying down or being suppressed.

I think HH Trijang Choktrul Rinpoche's firmness on his practice and Guru Devotion is something we can all be inspired. If someone like Trijang Rinpoche still continues with his protector practice it must mean and say something. And that definitely Dorje Shugden is not evil or a "spirit" and that all this rubbish is just political rubbish.
Just be yourself, be true, sincere and do your practice, in time all will be revealed. Guru samaya is far more important then worldly samsara issues.

Many Gelugpa Lamas do not openly state support for Dorje Shugden because of the political issues involved. I really think politics should not mix with religion but what the hell do i know. It's not a matter of accepting or not accepting - maybe you should accept that Dorje Shugden is becoming the most well known Dharma Protector in the world! :)

@wisdombeing i also think many lamas do not comment on this issue because commenting necessarily involves speaking for or against one lama or other (politics!) and the monks of the monasteries are real genuine practitioners who focus only on their practice and not on judging the actions of others.

We should follow HH Trijang Rinpoche example and practice patiently and quietly.
He doesn't criticise HH the Dalai Lama either but remain neutral. He does not break his Guru samaya also because he is still practicing what he knows is truth and right.
We will eventually lose everything even our country when we die, hence Dharma is more important then political agendas. Truth will always revel itself in the end. And if Dorje Shugden is a demon he would have been killed along time ago already.

A lot of the reasons given by HH the Dalai Lama on the Ban makes no sense with no clear evidence. It is just a point of view and it does not valid to force soemone to give up their faith or break their Guru samaya.
There is no need to disrespect His Holiness, there is no need for any Ban. Anyone shld be able to practice what they wish, India is a free Democratic country. No one shld suffer for what they believe. There is no side to take except your own inner side & commitments to your Guru.

Trijang Rinpoche incarnation being back clearly shows he is not practicing anything wrong, evil or worldly. For if it is, he would have not taken rebirth and incarnate back.
Same goes for HH Pabongkha Dorje Chang. I think this is all just politics, where by humans with their ego and power games are the biggest maras.

Trijang Rinpoche has made a strong statement already by making the move to Shar Gaden but at the same time he remains very respectful of the Dalai Lama and maintains very excellent friendly relations with him. He is an exemplary inspiration to all that in spite of the differences we may have in our practices, we can still be respectful and kind towards each other.

Dorje Shugden could not be subdued by the 5th Dalai Lama or other Lamas until now, even with fire puja. If DS is an evil spirit, then he must be stronger than the enlightened Lamas. This is not possible. DS is indestructible...logically, it's rather clear what nature he is.

I admire Trijang Rinpoche that he just wants to practice in peace and that he would even disrobe for this principle. My postings on the youtubes are not to be political at all but to simply give an alternative view. A lot of pro Shugden practitioners are very critical of the Dalai Lama and since they have personally been hurt by the ban - emotionally and physically, i can empathise. However, my stance is different.

Now, 1) and 2) are not contradictory as I can pick apart the illogical basis of the ban without criticising the Dalai Lama. I think that the Dalai Lama has created this all for a reason and i'm glad to see many others who also think so. In the end, it's conjecture and only time will tell.

Nothing in the practice nor in the history of practitioners can we find proof that it has threatened "peace and harmony btwn the 4 buddhist traditions".

if you read the biographies of great masters on the dorjeshugden - dot - com website you'll notice that their practice, their teachings and benefit to the world, and their enlightened wishes for others is NO DIFFERENT to any other Dharma practitioner. They are so great for their sincere lifelong practice which focuses only on being of benefit to others. It is such a shame that this DS has turned them into "bad guys" when they are actually such good n inspiring examples of spirituality

it is indeed very inspiring to learn about the flourishing dharma work and study at the monasteries that have started anew - Serpom & Shar Gaden. Very beautiful to see practitioners holding so strongly to their faith and belief.
Isn't it ironic that actually, all the dharma they have learnt and are practising is exactly the same, and from the same lineage teachers as all the other gelug monasteries. The essence of Tsongkhapa's teachings remain the same actually

DharmaDefender: thank you for the apt reminder. It is very important and central to our practice to remember what our focus should be - which is Je Tsongkhapa, lamrim and ultimately, Lord Buddha's teachings which are the same, whatever school we follow.
There is a good video here where Geshe Kelsang Gyatso explains relationship btwn DS and Tsongkhapa - very important to us to understand this so we never forget the main focus of our practice which is to achieve the same great mind as Tsongkhapa

I would say that serpom and shar gaden monasteries are walking the same path as HH Trijang Rinpoche. While a little public about going against the ban. It's still making an environment to practice in peace.

@wangchub They are walking the same path. I had a look at Serpom Monastery's site, and it's all about the Dharma and supporting the monks, and very little to do with Dorje Shugden. They still do his practice but their main function is to practise Lama Tsongkhapa's teachings. This is a clear reflection of Dorje Shugden's purpose where he is 'just' a protector and his job is to protect Lama Tsongkhapa's teachings.

@wangchub However, the way they were established means their names become inextricably linked to the issue, and to Dorje Shugden...and in reality, I think all they want to do is just practise in peace, and not get caught up in the politics. In response to a thread on the dorjeshugden{DOT}com forum, I said that in the midst of this hullabaloo about Dorje Shugden, we seem to forget that Lama Tsongkhapa is the source of our teachings...however, Serpom and Shar Gaden never forget this.

Yes thats correct, I have seen the sites, they all talk about learning buddhism, training in spirtual programs. All from Tsongkhapa's lineage. They look organised and reputable compared to the anti shugden sites on the web. Why would anyone openly promote their DS practice in this climate, and anyway why should they as its a secret practice... well errrr sorta now with all the promotion :)

Dorje Shugden is a fully enlightened being and therefore can be practiced as a Yidam. However, he manifested in this form to protect Lama Tsongkhapa's teachings. Hence, his Kangsol is meant to solicit him as protector but rest assured that his assistance would bring about the best and most enlightened results for us. Those who have practiced him would know what I mean.

Choktrul Trijang Rinpoche as a lay person, of course he still can teach. Although rare, but there are Gelug teachers that are teaching as lay teachers. For example Gelek Rinpoche is teaching in the west. Besides, Choktrul Rinpoche didn't disrobe, he return his vows and there is a huge difference. Someone who has returned his vows didn't break his vows and therefore, can take the vows again while those who have disrobed, have broken the vows and cannot take the vows again in this life.

Thank you closerelative for that clarification! It is such a skillful way that these highly attained masters have managed to preserve the teachings and practices of sacred Tantra. Dorje Shugden is a Dharma protector for those on the path to tantra i've been told. Hence his practice is also very sacred and his assistance is very quick. He can also be called the Yidam? 'Shug' means power and 'den' means irreversible...the only being with irreversible power is a Buddha, because irreversibility is contrary to the impermanent nature of samsara, and only Buddhas are out of samsara.

Whatever it is the fact that Trijang Rinpoche is being able to practice Dorje Shugden is enough to inspire all of us. With all that is being done and said about him, HH Trijang Rinpoche remains humble and never criticize HH the Dalai Lama! That is the beauty and quality of a Shugdenpa.
And I am sure HH Trijang Rinpoche will be teaching and passing on practices including Dorje Shugden to his followers now and in to the future :)

HH always scolds his own sect and students not the others just like mother always correcting her own children first. HHDL says there may not be another future Dalai Lama and the current Karmapa agrees also in a recent interview. In the Karmapa's previous life, he is known to have said that in future we will need Dorje Shugden. Read it all in dorjeshugden (dot) com forums and connect the dots!

As HHDL's time on earth gets shorter day by day, HHDL is really going all out in preparing for Dorje Shugden's time to prevail. Why else would he allow HH Trijang Choktrul Rinpoche continue practicing DS? HH is skillfully preserving this lineage practice without creating fear in others of dislike due to political agendas.

i am impressed with the young HH Trijang Rinpoche who has disrobed because he wants to practise Dorje Shugden and he does not want to get involved with politics. He said in an interview that he does not want to become the figurehead of the pro-Shugden movement and just wants to quietly practise. May we all follow his example and not be political.

HH Trijang Rinpoche is so patient and kind that even with the death threats he received that pushed him to move out of his Labrang in Gaden, he never once said anything negative about HHDL. Perhaps he clairvoyance reveals to him that DS must continue after his passing (apologies for this statement) for a bigger benefit of every sentient being: A cause bigger and beyond Tibet and himself. If so, HH is practicing the ultimate display of wisdom and great compassion.

1 of 2: Trijang Rinpoche wrote the Symphony Delighting an Ocean of Conquerors, the complete & comprehensive text on DS Practice. This reflects in the depth of Trijang Rinpoche's link with DS. I rejoice that HH openly declares Trijang Rinpoche's freedom of choice to continue this practice.

Why allow Trijang Rinpoche to practice a spirit that harms the Dalai Lama's life and I hear that Trijang Rinpoche was ordained by the Dalai Lama himself. Wouldn't that endanger the Dalai Lama as he has direct connection? Also why continue a practice that promotes sectarianism and especially to one of the highest incarnation of Tibetan Buddhism.

@closerelative that's right! Dalai Lama has said that DS is also a harmful spirit that will endanger practitioners' life. So why would Dalai Lama allow the reincarnation of his guru to do a practice that would supposedly harm his life?

It reveals the nature of a real Shugden practitioner, How DS helps people even from different traditions, it did not matter for DS is an enlightened being.

@thepurpleaster Hey purpleaster and Jayasina, there are MANY really great articles about the many DS practitioners in the world who have been highly respected lamas and very instrumental in bringing benefit to thousands everywhere. Very inspirational and shows what Dorje Shugden's practice is all about: Dharma, compassion and wisdom.

@jayasina This Kuten also worked very hard as the Secretary of Co-operative Society (voted by monks) and raise funds to build monk's quarters for not only Gaden, but also for Drepung, the Nyingma and Sakya monks as well! (Hmmm that doesn't sound sactarian to me.)

If this Dorje Shugden being u r referring to is sectarian, have u seen any other monasteries having members of the Sangha of other traditions and lineages come to support and congratulate them on their opening?
I've seen Jamseng Rinpoche's centres whereby Sanghas of other traditions come and support too. So is he and DS sectarian or are they promoting healthy Buddhist ties?

I believe that there's a bigger picture DL is planning. By allowing Trijang to practice, he paves the way for a new generation of lamas to take over n make Dharma stronger in the world, with DS practices.
Just look at the whole new generation of DS monasteries, centres &Lamas flourishing all over the world, bringing Dharma to hundreds.... at the end of the day, isn't that what we are trying to achieve: For more people to receive & learn the Dharma?
Looks like DL's mission is accomplished!

isn't it funny. Trijang rinpoche is a teaching lama, so if he can practise, it means he'll be teaching the DS practices&lineage to his students too, won't he?
He has attendants, students, sponsors... so they will all be somehow connected to DS too. They sponsor his practice, they set up & participate in the pujas with him. So actually, w/ Trijang Rinpoche, many hundreds more will get to practise DS too... and I'm sure Dalai Lama knows that.

Having religious figures speaking against religious deities is Sectarianism.

The "ban" may be a "mystery" to you. But not me. I´m tired of repeating myself.
Sectarianism is not a problem any more.
The "obstacle" to non-sectarianism is gone. Shugden is with "Panchen Lama" now and the Buddhist Association of China.

@harrynephew that makes sense. How can a Dharma practice be sectarian? It's contradictory since Dharma is about creating harmony, peace and understanding.
It is humans that act in sectarian ways, through their speech or by oppressing/attacking other sects. It is sad that this has gotten mixed up with the practices itself. If you look at the teachings about DS & his prayers/practices, it encourages only harmony & sincere Dharma practice.

The argument about sectarianism of Dorje Shugden practitioners sounds like just another unfounded rumour. Actually, everyone else is being sectarian with them. Practitioners of Dorje Shugden are deliberately segregated on all levels and they cannot associate with those who do not practice. If that is not sectarian, what is?

Practising Shugden does not make any Buddhist tradition better than another. I have not seen Dorje Shugden anywhere declare through oracles to step on anyone. In fact the reverse is true - that he tells his followers to not criticise and to respect the Dalai Lama. If DS is so violent and will destroy all those who are against him, wouldn't the Dalai lama and TGIE and all those who have criticised him be dead. I beg your pardon but they all look pretty healthy to me. It's not logical.

in my view, (well obviously not the best one as i'm a nobody) i urge u guys to look out of the box. why cant both DS and DL be of the same nature playing this drama so that Buddhism can score a better heights for our next generations to come??

u still dont make sense. in ur last comment coupled with the video above, it seems that you're trying to say shugden gelupas are trying to gain supremacy but HHDL is allowing HH Trijang RInpoche to do this practice. So is HHDL trying to say Trijang Rinpoche can initiate whomever he likes to practice DS?
HH Trijang Rinpoche is the gurus of gurus u know. he's even the tutor of HHDL. it's one full vicious cycle again

AT that time Trijang Choktrul Rinpoche was still very young and it is only fair for him to say that and not get all mixed up with politics. He was smart enough to disrobe so that he will not disrespect HHDL as well as not forsaking his Loyalty to his Guru and Dorje Shugden.

We all can speculate and come up with different views regarding the inconsistencies of DL putting a ban but HH Trijang Rinpoche can practice. Sorry to say, but it makes no sense to me.
There must be something bigger at work here which is not about the ban. These two beings are able to incarnate at will shows that they are not normal beings. How can two bodhisattvas have such different opinion about a deity? Impossible.
