I have liked this song since it was on the soundtrack to Look Who's Talking and its taken me 21 years to find the name and who sang it, bless you Google.
Love this fuckin song.. reminds me of Young Einstein when I hear it. WITH LOVE FROM LOUISIANA>> love this and ICE HOUSE!!.. Australian music is awesome;)
@K4GE05 hey thanx for the info on the LP. I finally found a copy after all these years of looking. I DJ a punk night here in the states at some pubs and this song is now a hit with the punx. He still has the magic! Now to find the rest of his LP's
the only reason you said it was about icarus was because you see him with the fake wings in the video clip..... its a fucken metaphore you idiot... grow up
im greek and an ex heroin addict this song is absolutey about heroin... and has nothing to do with icarus you fucken idiot.. anyone whos been addicted to heroin will understand
@mrbonzai86 It resonates with most people because most people have done dumb things, but those dumb things are different for everyone. Your dumb thing is heroin, my dumb things have generally involved women.
aah Ok - 'I've melted wax to fix my wings'.......that way up there for heroin lyric ? - that's as good as Keith's 'the sunshine bores the daylights outta me' lyric ..
The song was released in 1988, and was in Over The Sun album, in late 1987, it was featured in Look Who's Talking, when James Ubriacco was Driving The Cab.
God I love this song! Australia has a distinct sounding rock n roll, Some of the very best music on earth comes out of Australia. This song reminds me of summertime in Perth! great song, Great artist.
@suspectVandal As an Englishman, I am constrained to agree. There is an abundance of first-rate Australian music from the past 20 or 30 years that I am only just discovering now thanks to youtube. Some Australian bands have not received the exposure they deserve in the UK market.
This song wasn't just part of the 'Young Einstein' soundtrack, it makes a brief appearance in 'Look Who's Talking' (listen during the scene with the cab ride to the hospital)
@gxd4b1...........Icarus and his father Deadalus made wings out of feathers and wax so that Icarus could fly out of the tower where he was being held prisoner. He flew too close to the sun, the wax melted and he plummeted to the ground.............Which was pretty dumb!!
@unusualsuspect71 Ahhh Cheers ......... I knew the story but didnt connect it with the lyrics. You learn something every day huh? Still like he says 'Ive done all the dumb things!'
Yeah, it's frustrating not being able to even find this version in an MP3. There are a lot of songs from 80s movie soundtracks that give me that problem. I at least have been able to hear them on Youtube.
this video was filmed in my home town Fillmore CA in the USA. I remember getting to meet the band and getting a 45 from them as a promo to all us young kids (I was 13 at the time). It is nice to see this video 20 years later. The song is classic and I wish it was a bigger hit here in the states. Still looking for it on LP. thanx to who ever posted it, cheers!
havent heard this song in 15yrs...was in Australia this week and heard it 3 times in a 2 day period. On radio and cover band at bar. Is it aussie band?
yep, Paul Kelly is a pretty well known singer. Do you mean you travel to Australia fairly often? You were in Oz 15 years ago and then return....I don`t expect you to admit it on youtube but you never know...Are you a spy??
I love this. I used to tend bar in a dreadful pub years back and remember Paul & the CGs playing to an audience of me and a couple or three drunks. Plain (playin) and simple, he's great, whoever is up back and wherever he plays. Yeah, bogan accent but you DO need to get over it - he is a great musician, tightest sound around. Melbourne has really turned out the best sounds over the last 30 years - great musicians doing really tight stuff.
I was never too fond of this song, but I kind of liked some of the lyrics when I was listening to it the other day, so I tried vainly to remember some and google them, and now here I am xD
That scorching organ solo my friend is delivered by none other Mr Chris Wilson. The big guy of the Australian blues scene. Go see him if you can. Not only plays a mean harp but has a huge voice. Hie version of Hey Joe rocks the house down.
