I liked it. It staggered my imagination that someone would try it on doublebass. Holy smokes. And a high-schooler? Whoa.
The poet R.M. Rilke told young Franz Xavier Kappus, "With nothing so small as criticism can one approach a work of art. That always boils down to more-or-less happy misunderstandings." (Letters to a Young Poet).
I enjoyed your playing. (Wish the bass had been better mic'd for the recording, & less piano. But those are engineering issues.) You're a fine musician.
that was freakin amazing. 4* outta 5 tho just for bein so freakin unconfident in ur info. i mean serious? u didn tplay like @#%$ and u saying so pisses me off slightly cuz u did better than that.
Wow, nice. Yours is probably the best double bass recording I've seen of this on youtube. And, yes, I've seen Roman Patkolo's rendition, I just don't like how he plays it.
You bring a lot of very unique twists to the arrangement. Very inspiring indeed. Edgar Meyer's is my favorite bass recording of this out there. No doubt you've heard it, but if you haven't, make sure you do.
Hey, you play quite well, well done, it is really difficult to play this piece on counter bass. Two bad things, first the one who records the video doesnt understand anything from music and doesnt zoom on you. Second, the piano is too loud and sometimes not you but the accompany can be heard only. The rest is very good. Thank you.
Joel Quarrington is just plain amazing!! You play so well for a high schooler.. I would be proud if I could play this piece by the end of next year.. great job!
hello bizga, thank you for the comentari, the gently accepted thing, bearing in mind that I take a little time studying it, and your critique uses me as much to improve, and I am grateful for him to yosihiro for the spirit that gives me, since it is very important also.
This is a pretty daring piece for a HS student. Shit, I did not sound anything close to that good in HS. How old is this video? What you up to now playing-wise?
Have you heard Edgar Meyer7s recording of this piece?
Bravo!!! Very exceptional for a high school student. Don't get rid of it. Only 1% (my guess) of high school bassists could play this piece as beautifully as you did. Just add more video clips! Are you still studying bass?
I'm a retired bassist who couldn't play this piece if I had 20 years to practice it. It's really a treat to hear talented young players like you. about your playing - way so hard on yourself? you've got awesome chops. that & the ascending line at the end of the intro was to die for - tasty!
