I am still undecided as to how good Ward really is. This was an easy win for him but Kessler has only faced two opponents of genuine class and they have both beaten him comfortably. Abrahams now seems to be the only European with a chance of winning the Super Six but he may be too small for someone like Ward. Most of Arthur's contests have been at middleweight whereas Ward has fought at Light Heavyweight. Ward's main problem is that he has a tendency to show off.

I was very impressed by Ward, Dwyer. Not just his speed but fearless and will fight. Who in the tourney do you see giving Ward trouble?

Would you give Taylor or Alan Green a shot against Ward? You know in this tourney, it adds a twist to it by getting the extra point by ko. I questioned Kess's heart against JC & yes i know JC was great but i questioned it again against Ward on him mixing it up. He just does not like in fighting.

Think AW Vs AA could be a good match up?

Froch likes to fight from distance. Kess will be the Ward the next fight with Froch. He will speed Froch & combo him badly. Kess fights good distance fights like Froch but Froch to slow for him. Kess is no bum but he makes no adjustments & JC/AW beat him the same way. He once fought back in the 10th catching AW but it was already over. He did the same against JC. Speed is huge in boxing if you are smart & have some defense. Dirrell needs to learn from AW & JC. Kess needs to learn to fight inside

By the way, i picked Kess 1st, AA 2nd, AW 3rd. I think Froch & Direell the worst & Taylor a mystery. Especially now with that brutal ko by AA. Kess should ko Froch. AA is so good but with a speed man, he takes chances giving the first 3 or 4 rds away. My Kess pick looks worse now but AA & AW looks good. Froch sux with JT & AD could play spoiler but won't win it. Ward impresses me but AA ain't Kess & will fight you. Ward needs to work on defense as he rushes in as JT will counter & so does AA.

Ward was Calzaghe but was JC from the 1st rd, where Joe was Calzaghe from 5th rd on. Perfect fight for Ward to beat Kess. AW Vs JT will be great.

Perfect, great fight by Ward. He did a Calzaghe from the 1st rd. Let me comment on how to beat Kess. Speed but do not run, get in close & fight him. Kess want's to be Ward & JC from outside with his boxing skills. He does not like inside fighting, speed. Ward is so much better and smarter than Dirrell. One flaw i see. Where Kess quits if you speed and get in close, Ward made mistakes wanting to ko him to open his defense up & was wide open for a counter ko. Kess would not throw. Not alot but

Agreed, it was VERY frustrating to watch Kessler give in so easily and basically show his limitations so readily.

Kessler looked unprepared, under trained and VERY amaturish, even though he was fouled MANY times quite badly he still had no answer to Wards U.S. style of fighting.

Too many Euro fights for Kessler and he needs to either toughen up and train harder or, get out the tournament.

I did quite well in this fight. Based on both fighter's chin and lack of knock out power (Ward and Miranda; Kessler and Andrade) I foresaw it going to decision. So I hedged my bet on both fighters winning by decision (and to my surprise I worried Ward was going to knock out Kessler at times). Kessler by decision would have yielded +200 (2 to 1 odds) while I was handsomely rewarded with Ward winning by decision (+320 odds). Thankfully the cut was ruled as result of a headbutt and not punches!

I agree with Dwyer - this is a difficult fight to call. Kessler has excellent technical skills and enough power to stop Ward, but Ward has world-class speed and skills. I think if it goes the distance, Ward will win a gift decision. If the fight were in Denmark or a neutral location, I would pick Kessler, but in Ward's hometown, it's a 50-50 fight.

This is when i got alot of respect for JC, when he went in and out speeded and fought MK. He made MK quit or tired. JC did the same thing to RJ. The same thing is when Hop made KP quit. Applied to much pressure and over whelmed them and they could not even throw a punch in return. This will be an interesting fight & Ward must be smart and make no mistakes. First things first: It's always a pleasure, dwyer, to listen to your opinion on any upcoming fight. To me, you're a true expert of the Sweet Science, no matter if I agree or disagree to your point. In this case, I perfectly understand what you're saying. I do agree that Andre Ward outclassed Edison Miranda, I had that fight 119:109 like 2 of the judges on the night. That said and after watching the Miranda fight and some Kessler fights again: I think Kessler will win by late stoppage (rd.9-12).

Interesting view point, although a possible indication as to how the fight may go is to watch Kessler-Mundine, a fight where Mundine, a fast, slippery customer, boxed well but was unable to find a solution to Kessler's measured approach and in the end lost comprehensively. Whilst Ward is undoubtedly better than Mundine he may be surprised by Kessler's speed and the volume of punches and pressure that MK brings to bear. I got Kessler, most likely by close decision.

I completely agree with your post fight analysis, clearly dirrell won the fight, by a wide margin. Yet with the advent of a future roy jones in dirrell and the general american consensus that andre ward is a better fighter than dirrel, has this stopped you going for kessler? i think prior froch v dirrell you would have gone kessler by stoppage.

I agree with a lot of what your saying. I think Kessler is limited but he's very good at what he does best which is mainly throwing hard, quick straight punch combinations. Ward on the other hand I believe is good is all areas, though not great in any particular one. So it's an interesting matchup. With the the first two fights I I felt they could go any direction but with this one I just see it being a competitive fight all the way through.

Andre Ward said when interviewed on "the cutman's corner" right here on youtube that he's only fought top-level competition and that guys like Darnell Boone, Kenny Kost and Andy Kolle didn't lose after he beat them. Well, look up their respective records and see the truth: Boone lost 10 (!!!) fights after Ward, Kenny Kost lost 3 (1 by KO) and Andy Kolle was handed a 1st round KO-loss by Paul Williams in '08. I like Ward a lot, whenever I see him interviewed I think he is a smart guy. Kesslers inactivity can't be a positive for him. I think the key here is how Kessler adapts to the fluidity of Ward. I remember him saying after the Calzaghe fight that he would look into his tactics. I doubt he has changed all that much but perhaps he has developed mentally from that fight in a way that will help him in this fight.

in my oppinion one of kesslers strenghts is the cat and mouse game. he showed it perfectly againts anthony mundine down under. mundine might not be as good at switching but he did try to run and outbox kessler, and mundine is a fast skilled boxer as ward, but kessler didnt crumple. he is a smart thinker, more than people give him credit for, he cut mundine off everytime and caught him with hooks and combinations. i think ward have to be carefull he doesnt run too much.

i've always thought that style wise, every fighter in the tournament has the potential to win against one and lose against another, but thought that Ward stylistically is about the only fighter who I think could possibly beat everyone.
