  • the soul just screams from this man.

  • I seriously doubt there was anyone better!

  • I was once a blues singer like him, then I took a arrow to my

  • Great Musician! What we need is more people keeping the blues alive!

  • i knew this on the crossroad 2010

    fantastic!

  • kids my age listen to that katy perry and bruno mars bull shit

i wish more of them listened to good music like this ಥ‿ಥ

  • @austinpowers1124 um, excuse me, your name is "austinpowers1124." you're gonna judge other people for THEIR taste?

  • @toysintheattic22 actually, my name is austin, and some friends used to call me "austin powers" hence the name, your excused

  • @austinpowers1124 "your" excused? I'm sorry, I don't have an "excused." Dumbass.

  • @toysintheattic22 i d'ont hav tim.e 4 dis, stop correcting my grammar and do something productive, and please stop arguing with me on a Blind Willie Johnson page, it's just disrespectful.

  • @austinpowers1124 . . . you're a dumbass you should just stop talking and judging other people's music tastes. you would probably hate this song if it was popular today . . . pretentious 12 year old prick.

  • @toysintheattic22 you're not worth the time, i'm going to stop replying now. It's called the "comment" section for a reason, that was my comment, good day.

  • @toysintheattic22 It's not like he doesn't have a valid point. Kids these days do listen to complete dross and both Katy Perry and Bruno Mars are utterly horrific talentless abominations. I can't see why you've chosen to take issue with what he said.

  • @Hendishness You sound like an old man stuck in old ways. You realize it was people like you who made similarly harsh statements about Rock and Roll and blues. Once you have #1 on the music chart then you have a right make such judgements about other artists. Today's music may be different than what it was, but it is by no means dross or the artists talentless.

  • @MrAcademedical I'm almost speechless... You're actually drawing a comparison between the sickeningly un-innovative, image-centric music of today to the early years of rock and roll and blues?

You don't seem to understand that the whole problem with the music industry today is that it's utterly homogeneous and in a state of stagnation, you'd have to be a complete fucking idiot to think that talent is somehow a pre-requisite of having a chart-topping song these days.

  • @Hendishness The irony, typical of your kind. Those with overly high opinions of themselves and that of their opinions. LMFAO is dance music, it is not meant to be something to be admired, instead to enjoy at 'clubs' and ar ' the disco' if that is more to your understanding. Appreciate all kinds of music for what they are, and you won't be so angry all the time

  • @MrAcademedical There is absolutely no irony in anything I said. You made an horribly idiotic statement, comparing the rise of rock and blues to the modern 'music' scene and I called you out on it. That's it.

I have an overly high opinion of my opinion? You didn't sound that out in your head before typing it did you?

    Bye now.

  • @MrAcademedical how is that irony? also i agree with him on the fact that just because you get to number one now a days doesn't mean you have talent just to name off a few that Nickelodeon has pushed up to number one; Hanna Montana, the Jonas brothers that list can keep going on too. not to mention people like Justin Beiber who get lucky or that chick with the song 'Friday' music today can't compare to what our parents and grandparents grew up on, it just can't and its illogical to try

  • I cannot begin to tell you how naive you come across, even going so far as to suggest that having a chart-topping song these days automatically means that the 'artist' in question MUST be talented.

They don't call it the music 'industry' for nothing.

Record companies get songs to number one today, not musicians - it's entirely about image and promotion, go and look at the top-20, most of those cretins are completely bereft of musical ability.

Shitty taste in music, that's your problem.

  • When are you people going to wake up? This is NOT "Jesus Make Up My Dying Bed". Listen to the lyrics, for fuck's sake. No where in this recording does he sing these lyrics: I said a prayer Jesus Christ sat a-weeping But I meant not to pine That time receiver now was in my ear Well that don’t soothe my life That don’t soothe my eye Singing Aye, aye, aye Bring him on up easy I can’t bring him on up Aye, aye, aye No, I can't bring him on up easy Jesus come make up my dying bed
  • @40AcreMule The name of the song on the actual record is "Jesus Make Up My Dying Bed". google it

  • Clearly the totally unappreciated great godfather of modern music, from the blues to rock to, weirdly enough, metal; and to think it all started as gospel.

  • im only 18 but i wish i listened to this earlier,

or maybe not, probably wouldn't have appreciated it as much

  • I hope that 1 disliker dies >:(

  • Like Bret The Hitman Hart. The best there is, the best there was, the best there ever will be. Who knew they were congruent? Love this damn track!

  • Super Deep. Super Heavy.

  • He is really Good! I love the other song to The " Nobody's Fault But Mine" <3

  • 0 dislikes. That's how I like it!

  • Dying will be easy.....

  • It's interesting to note that all rock and roll and hard rock artists listen to this when they are alone.

  • @dadgadable Thats cuz most of them have a foundation on Jazz... Doesn't make them closet Jazz lovers, but art is taking something old, a feeling an emotion whatever and making it new, thats rock, thats pop, thats dubstep, thats everything... Bonzo was a jazz player before Zeppelin, Plant is still a blues singer... take any name really not just Led Zep...

  • Wow a blues song about Jesus. The Devil must be pissed

  • I wish these great artists were still here today....

  • check the name...need i say anymore as to what i think of this

  • Jesus make up my dying bed. The sooner the better.

  • kids wear superman pajamas at night.

led zeppelin wear blind willie johnson pajamas at night

  • music notes embraced with pure soul of one man,

I'm sure if Jesus would create youtube account he would like this(maybe he already did hahaha)

thank you zenguitarblues for putting this online

  • "In my time of dying"

  • like a channel to the past. conveys the time, the place ,the air.

that'd be a closed pocket knife, not the blade.

  • man, blues is the true root of all rocknroll. lemmy (motorhead) prolly found out he could sing after listening to this.

    long live THE BLUES.

  • You can just feel the soul coming out of your speakers when he sings.

  • WE ARE STANDING ON HOLY HOLLOWED GROUND. RIGHTEOUS WAS BWJ. TREMBLE AND REJOICE FOR YOUR SOUL.

  • This is utterly amazing.

  • I love Son House and Robert Johnson, but they could only dream of being as powerful as Blind Willie.

  • @badpdx True that! BWJ's voice is an amazingly powerful instrument.

  • Now I know where Led Zepp's song "Bron-Y-Aur Stomp" on the Zep III album came from.

  • Now I know where from whom a few Led Zep songs were copied from....

  • There's no doubt in my mind the "pocket-knife" technique is real. True Blues musicians make music with whatever they have on hand. That's what defines the Blues.

  • This is not Jesus is Going to Make Up My Dying Bed .

  • @40AcreMule

    It most certainly is.

  • @OctoDunn I think what he meant was, this song is not called, "Jesus is going to make up my dying bed." but in actuality is called "jesus make up my dying bed"...

Or maybe I'm trying to justify his stupidity.

  • What a voice... it complements the slide sound so well. It's too bad there isn't much music like this being made anymore... REALLY too bad.

  • My Grandfather use to listen to this kind of music when I was a kid ain't have that much appreciation for it like I do now. Bring back some banging ass memories of him though

  • @PeaceAndJustice357 your gramps sure have a kick ass taste in music and so do you.

  • @PeaceAndJustice357

"banging ass memories" - don't sound too good

  • @37zeus37 for a person with a name zeus in his name that don't sound good

  • @PeaceAndJustice357 Said the choirboy to the priest...

  • i've tried too even with a pocketknife and to think he was blind too!

  • @zenguitarblues i heard that the whole pocketknife thing was a myth

  • @Priestica606 he might or might not of used one i dont know, but using a pocketknife as a slide isnt a myth

  • @zenguitarblues My ears tells me he uses a metal thumb pick and no fingerpicks and a pocketknife playing spanish style not lapstyle.

Nobody can put more magic between the lines in is slide playing than Willie.

  • Inimitable!! I toil for hours trying to get close to his slide technique.

Makes me wanna get religion. But I won't.

  • Why not?

  • @blindboyblue Hear ya.

  • and he played slide with a pocketknife~amazing

  • this is very top of the blues music

  • i agree Blind Willie Johnsonis the very best!

  • exellent
