The channel Berlin Philarmonic notices sent ywo in my account letting my channel in bad condition for i have posted a symphony 7 and 9 complete with Karajan conduction ,
if they do not have this material not cet others because i´m puttig you send this to say they blocked me and that's how they return the love from fans
I've never heard any other conductor do the Tchaikovsky 4th as well as Karajan. One cannot imagine a more powerful performance of the last movement....absolutely stunning. A popular online DVD rental service has his recording of this work with the Vienna Phiharmonic, which is also a great performance.
Im not a conductor YET (still working on High school) But i own a baton and i always play this video since i am greatly fascinated by his conducting gestures (especially on many Tchaikovsky performances) ITS ALMOST IMPOSSIBLE TO IMITATE IT!! ITS SO BEAUTIFUL!
I especially want to imitate 1:01 because i especially like that technique!
That has to be one of the top 5 performances of all time. The continuity and the consistency... I mean, regardless that the audio recording lacked clarity... I could still hear the perfection of every note and rhythm. Bravo!
This orchestra was one of the wonders of the world under the inspired leadership of Maestro Von Karajan; I was fortunate enough to hear them live, and it remains the greatest orchestra playing I ever heard. New York critics, who I am convinced are bought off, never give us a single honest review of New York orchestra concerts. As to the tepid applause here, perhaps there were only a few people in attendance, it was a Sunday afternoon, or they hated Tchaikovsky.
Caesar Karayan......Miracle Karajan....His performance really make a deep impression on me.Before Karajan was no Karajan, and after Karajan will be no Karajan....Thank you very much for upload....
i like how at 1:38 karajan doesn't do the typical fp-crescendo that most conductors do, he just makes it even louder and more intense. lol, he's like "screw you, i'm not turning it down! let's give it more!"
I'm sorry, but I disagree with the cymbal crash at the end (also an added bass drum note). If it's not there don't play it. Even though I have no idea why it is not there, it is not there nonetheless.
OMG that was amazing. Such power.Karajan truly at his best with no back problems or anything which he had later on in his career. Although on a personal point I would have thought that if the composer had repeated the section in approximately the middle it would gave the finale an even greater intensity
Karajan has recorded this numerous times. The main differences in all of his performances primarily lie in the tempo in the 2nd movement: it's either 9 or 10 minutes long. Sometimes he added a huge cymbal crash at the very end - as he does here. It sounds better with it!
My first exposure to Karajan was in 1982 when his recording of the Sibelius 2nd Symphony came out. It was one of the first digital recordings. An incredibly morbid and brooding performance that left Ormandy and Philadelphia in the dust.
Fire! Fury! Passion! Those are the proximate words that come to us when we hear this spectacular finale of Tchaiovsky's. Karajan was exhausted as he demanded so much from the orchestra, but it was well worth of him.
i kno what you mean - we have the same prob on the violin. those fast scales and 5 note runs are easy on the piano, but dont fall particularly well under the fingers with instruments. the only thing i can recommend is practicing it slow with a metronome and going faster gradually. or try playing it in slow syncopated rhythms.
The viola part is worse... whole sections popping from A string to G, skipping D, unless you want to be in 7th position on D string and pop back to first on G... it's really the same problem. Tchaikovsky rarely cared about the technical difficulties he posed for string players; that's why his Violin Concerto is so difficult. The music isn't, the technique to execute it is. When we played 4th Symphony I paraphrased Hanslick's remark that I wasn't playing my viola, I beat it black 'n blue.
Dude, it's Tchaikovsky. You can take some "liberties" with it.
I've always kind of questioned the last measure of this piece for all the percussion parts. Triangle has a single hit (where a roll would probably work better), no cymbal/BD...it's a very odd measure, indeed.
I'd say it's kind of up to whatever the conductor/musicians want. Aleatory Tchaikovsky? Chance-kovsky?
Is it my imagination, or did he add a cymbal crash and bass drum beat on that very final note? Doesn't bother me a bit if he did, of course, but I don't remember that in other versions of this movement.
Us Low Brass players have an apt and pithy expression for the kind of gargantuan energy that Karajan milks from his Berliners in this Tschaik 4 finale : BALLS TO THE WALL! Like him or not. Karajan is known because his interpretations become the new standard of how the piece is to sound.
Here, however, that is not accomplished. The bass drum, and the cymbal note at the end annoys me (you'd understand if you were a percussionist).
Michael Tilson Thomas's interpretation of this movement is way better. Although, If there is a whole Karajan Tchaik 4 on youtube, I'd love to see it.

Us Low Brass players have an apt and pithy expression for the kind of gargantuan energy that Karajan milks from his Berliners in this Tschaik 4 finale : BALLS TO THE WALL! We live for such peak moments, the same way that soccer fans around the world live to see 11 players aggregate brain waves and move synchronistically and synergistically up and down the field while scoring aesthetically pleasing goals against the opposing side.
