  • if the job looks great in person then thats great ,but I doubt it. but if you wanted to work for a pro you would not get hired! Tools are not pro tools , cut from a pot, most pros dont need all that tape.Pros dont wear gloves, pros never cover a pot if they are going to use it , you place it out of the way, always always, always. this video is another instance of those who cant try to teach , leave it to the pros or get schooled properly

  • good video

  • 100000000000000000000000000 % perfect

  • Looks fine to me.

  • 4:05 that brush is awful close to that wall... lol. Other than that not a bad video.

  • Awesome video man, picked up a lot of good tips there thanks ;)

  • Instead of bitching about how he's doing it completely wrong, why don't you leave a comment telling us the RIGHT way to do it? Or even just some beginners tips. Be a hell of a lot more useful than repeating 'this guy is such an asshole' over and over again.

  • so much wrong in this video. the taping, the rolling, no paint pot, holding tray in the air, the list goes on.

  • oh no you didn't. did u just say to paint in a 'v fashion'? any professional knows that its the dumbest and least efficient way to paint. you will be doing this for hours. i suggest everyone NOT use this video as a good source of how to paint.

  • @anantparmar1 I heard Z LOL

  • My nan knows more about painting than you. And shes dead.

  • lmao oh man i love reading negative comments on youtube. it shows that this site is jus full of assholes, pansies and dicks. I mean sure he may have not did a bad job (i wouldnt know cuz im not a "PRO" but it wassss only half a bathroom wall 1st off, it was recorded and not seen by the naked eye so im sure in person its just fine, and 3rd its a 7minute vid on painting, as in getting started dumbasses.)

  • This very poor rolling technique will lead to very poor coverage. Learn how to paint properly before trying to teach others your bad methods. ,

  • @robok666 agree , he is a messy bastard aswell lol

  • lol professional fckup if you ask me, by the time you figure out how to hold your brush the room is allready painted , what a dick jeez even the tape looks like my 2 year old son applied it ... you dont know your ass from your head you are a disgrace to everyone who knows ANYTHING about painting and wait hold one did you say that the first coat is all about working quickly ????

  • @tristan1982able I've seen ur comments in other videos.U like being negative and nasty? If u are so informed why r u watching how to videos? He is painting trying 2 think of what 2 say while being taped. In the end it doesn't matter what techinque u used if u & the customer is happy, all is well.Honestly, being a painter(while honorable)is not a high IQ job.No 1 can take u seriously. If u can't conduct yourself as an adult & communicate properly here u won't bea tenth as good as this guy on camera.

  • This is the worst instructional video on how to paint like a pro. Take it from me, A PRO!! Also, some of the comments down below are not correct in the proper way to paint. Cutting in the entire room all at once is absolutely and positively wrong. When you cut the whole room in and go back to roll you are rolling into dry cut lines and will get what is known as flashing if you are using a paint with any type of sheen.

  • @OSullivanPainting

    Where's your video?

  • YA HE IS A SHITTY PAINTER FOR SURE! ID HIRE HIM FOR HIS DICK AND HIS ASS!

  • Comment removed

  • Im a proffesional painter and although this guy cares about being careful he is displaying all the wrong products and techniches making the process way longer than it should be.

  • @28beerdrinker I'm currently thinking about painting my Kitchen, what exactly is it that he did wrong, and do you have suggestions for videos on youtube I can watch than can assist me in doing it write?

  • @YvorieVasquez actually he did nothing wrong .i know for a fact painters always compete as who is the better painter.experience will always overcome.hes doing it slow to show his way of doing it.i paint for 20yrs now and can tell you he's doing ok

  • @jimi57 Thanks!! =0 Well I really liked his video and it was very helpful!

  • @28beerdrinker right*

  • @YvorieVasquez Ok. So, this guy really didn't to too bad of job, however its not a good idea to use one of those flimsy black trays he was using because you'll drip paint, refill it too often, and have to constantly hold it up. Its best to use an "18 inch roller with an "18 inch roller bin that'll have a handle for you; also using big "18 rollers reduce lines on the wall, even though bathrooms/kitchens have less surface area and you can get away with a "9 roller like he did.

  • @YvorieVasquez Also, in any room its best to cut out the entire room first, which should only take say an hour tops for a bathroom considering behind toilet/around sink etc.. So, cut the whole room out first, use tape if you don't think you can cut up to the edge. Disregard how he said to cut because your gonna roll right up to the edges anyways! Then immediately go over the wall gently after application to get the surface smoothed up. Do a 2nd coat when the 1st coat is dry to the touch. ;)

  • go to marc andews art . com now!!!!

  • this guy sucks and doesnt know what he is doing he is doing everything wrong. what a jackass

  • Thanks Good Handyman! Best video with painting tips out there! Finally! Actually shows all the important details to achieve best results for DIY painting. If I had a choice I'd rather go with a pro-decorator anyway though. Thanks again...

  • this video was alright

  • I love you andy

  • I had trouble cutting in the corners of my bathroom paint job last night and should have watched this first. The part about not starting in the corners is really important. ;)

  • tq so much...nurul from Malaysia

  • Even i can fill a paint tray with paint without making the paint can look like that!!

  • thank god brah, you helped me out big time, your way's so simple lol

  • thumbs up for abusive bathrooms

  • total noob. Cant believe this guy got this many views! What's with the tape?

  • as a painter for over 30 years i can see why your called a handy man.. shocking advice

  • painting my room purple, can't wait. thanks for the video!

  • When i saw expert i almost turned away, way better then any expert village tutorials! well done man it helped alot, im glad you used that brand also :)

  • this is my first time painting my room ...i am going too start out like what you have on the wall but when u do the roller do you see when it dry the line by you paint the out line????

  • They used a flat paint in my bathroom before I brought my house, It had developed mold spots that i had to clean up, I'am re-painting it, what kind of paint should I use in a bathroom guys? Brands? Thanks.

  • I am a painter and this guy is making a big mess.

  • where did u buy your brush?from pound shop?:)))

  • gasp or a tray liner!

  • haha he didnt use a pour spout!

  • woops in the first 3 seconds he made a mistake and stuck his knee in the paint can lid!

  • paintincolors. com They painted the exterior of our two unit building and they came in on budget exactly and shaved off 3 days from the time they estimated. We were so happy. Painting is good work, i think people express your feeling through painting. Find a local painter and free estimate. pint in colors home painter, house painter, residential painter, commercial painter. Get free estimate from paintincolors. com paint company.

  • Andy didn't mention that when you remove the tape from the wall it's better to remove it while the paint is wet because if the paint dries you might end up pulling up some of the paint from the wall ruining your paint job

  • @MississaugaHandyman

and thats how i screwed my windowsills up hahaha

  • Hey Andy, thanks for your tips. I love painting and I cant wait to try some of the techniques I learned from your videos. Kee em comin!!!!!!!!

  • Is it normal to have noticeable lines on the walls after a paint job? Anyone? thx.

  • @EmanikonxRevolution no, not if your using a roller.... could be caused by taking to much paint and not evening it out. like andy say's its important to spread al the paint out

  • @blkinvestor, its mix with the paint.

Want a Faster and Easier Way to Find the Right Paint Color?

  • Why no primer?

  • step #1 : buy a real brush

  • Very Nice video im planing on painting my room this summer ! things are nice and clear

  • Very clear. Thanks.

  • i just think the music at the beginning was just wonderful. it would be very generous if you tell me what it is called.

  • @MrHeyhowyoudoin The music is called Feuer Frei by Rammstein. It is a very sensual song.

  • my dad always think he knows what hes walking about...he said u supposed to use the roller and go down and all the wasy up and that causes it to be thinner paint and more coats thats too much paint bein wasted

  • i was just asked to paint a couple of rooms for money and i dont want to screw it up, and ive never painted rooms

  • The best video I found at you tube. Thank you so much... is very helpful!!!

  • @squidword2008 whatever asshole, nobody need your sarcasm. if you dont want to follow professional advice, then don't. but nobody asked for your opinion

  • Painted a whole rental apartment in a couple of days, watching this first definitely helped. Thanks.

  • @killurbean it took you multiple days to paint just one apartment?

  • @USAPatriot7761 Yeah afraid so, I was smoking weed also so may not have been going at full speed.. a lot of breaks and what have you, mainly to eat stuff.

  • @killurbean haha i respect you descisions then

  • this is a great video. im painting a house tomorrow with my uncle and needed a few pointers. thanks!!

  • Very nice advice in this video, I see a lot of people (even the "pros") painting with a shotgun approach to it. Overloading the brush and the roller, pressing them too hard against the wall, etc And leaving an uneven distribution of paint and bulky spots all over the place.

This approach is both faster and smoother in my opinion.

  • Thanks so much for this video!! I picked up some much needed info!

  • why did you not just put more paint on the roller?

  • if you were an actual pro you wouldn't need to tape or mask you could just not get paint on it. the best way to roll is to NOT USE A 2$ FOAM ROLLER and also DO NOT ROLL ENTIRE WALLS WITH A MINI ROLLER. it wastes time and effort

  • @USAPatriot7761 What kind of pro doesn't prepare?

  • @HarryFegan real pros have a steady enough hand to just paint around and don't need to 'prepare'

  • Prep and Materials used is the way to go. Not a $5 brush and Behr paint. Good video for diy type of work. BUt That's it !

  • thanks

  • thanks buddy ur tip help allot

  • should i apply primer first?

  • He is a handyman- not a painter, you will never see a professional painter use a paint tray. Use a five gallon bucket with a drop in screen. The screen leaves the perfect amount of paint on the roller. For bathrooms the weenie rollers with side nap really go quickly in a bathroom because the side nap will paint the corners so you dont have to go back with a brush.

  • @sameul11 You sound like my co worker, when I first started working for a paint company and was on the job he came screaming at me not to use the big roller for the bathrooms to use the wenie roller.

  • @sameul11 thank god someone who actually knows what he is doing

  • So someone help me out, I sorta bombed BIG TIME! Painting my room in my new house, I didn't use the small brush and do the edges first (did them during the end, after driving the small roller into the corner) and I did the wrong technique whilst using the roller so it came out very spotty, will a second coat fix this problem? Also, didn't take the blue tape of as I though I'd leave them in for a second coat.

  • @comedyguy911 It may be too late by the time you get this but perhaps you would like to know anyway. Technically yes, a good second coat with the roller will cover those spots but I would recommend a brush instead for corners. Since usually when I paint walls by hand I only use a 9" roller and a 2.5" brush. It is recommended to take the tape off as soon as possible, but generally blue tape has a longer time frame (days even weeks) that you can leave it on without damaging the surface.

  • @djlazlow1 Thanks man, the second roll went on just about perfectly!

  • @comedyguy911 Np!

  • @djlazlow1 why would you use the 9" roller on the bulk of the walls and not the 18" and a roller bucket?

  • @USAPatriot7761 I never really thought of it. Talk about wage slavery taking away your motivation to improve...

  • @djlazlow1 dude, just start your own company then. my dad did it like 16 years ago all you need is some equiptment, hard work, and if you do a good job you will never run out of business. today, my dad needs help handling the workload. he has to turn people down because he is working 7 days a week as it is

  • Thank you so much. very helpful!

  • Thanks, I found this very helpful :)

  • Thanks:) This was super helpful!

  • I am very VERY grateful for all these tips. I will mentally go over them several times before we start painting for first time tomorrow. So excited!

  • Thanks much! You've helped get my courage up to paint my rooms!

  • Thanks! I learned alot.. I want to paint right now!

  • are you rolling out of a tray use a five with a screen. bear KM buddy. just kidding don't tell anyone but i like bear flat.

  • yay...i cant wait to my paint my room this week..hopefully it wont look like crap!

  • Very true to keep the lid snugged on. I just recently painted and left the lid sitting on the can and my brother goes to pick it up to help and the entire gallon landed on the hardwood. haha. totally sucked. An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure.

  • taught me a lot of tricks

  • Excellent vid well presented with many good tips!

  • its not hard to paint !

  • maybe not but to make it look good thats another story.

  • best painting video i've seen out of about 20. nice job!

  • you all sound like a bunch of kids...if you know how to paint dont watch a ''how to paint'' video...it helped me learn how to paint with a roller...I think thats what he was trying to do with this video...and it was good for beginners...

  • @The2kfan My sentiments exactly...

  • you all sound like a bunch of kids...if you know how to paint dont watch a ''

  • so you think you are a pro and have knowledge doing paint stuff ? ... hmm i don't thing so.

being honest with you... get into a painting lessons Andy

  • @pinturagris doing paint 'stuff'? LOL yeah, while he is registering for painting lessons you should sit in on English 101. Make sure you sound intelligent before criticizing someone else.

  • How much does it usually cost for one room to get painted?

  • This video is clear, helpful and informative.. Thank you very much Andy.. And to those who don't like it, get a life!!! It seems to be people who are already "professionals", yet your criticism makes you sound like junior high school kids.I think if you have a better technique, POST A VIDEO RATHER THEN COMPLAIN!! I really think its a great service that Andy is doing help us out.. (I mean, doesn't it hurt his business right? If we are doing it ourselves, we are not hiring people like him)

  • @opusguru actions speak lauder than videos ... i do paint 365 days at year so please try to help Andy to get into a painting school.

  • @pinturagris Maybe you should have stayed in "Real" school, as its obvious you only have a 4th grade education.. Last time I checked its spelled "Louder" not "Lauder"... What are you lauding? And you paint 365 "at" year? Rather then complain about people sharing ideas and being productive with mongoloid language, I think you should learn how to read and write.. Or get some drugs for your dyslexia.

  • if you dont think he paints well? why are you watching this video instead of making your own and showing us how its supposed to be done?

  • don't make anymore "how to" videos.

  • Comment removed

  • @opusguru you would know

  • Thanks for the tutorial, it helped me a lot. For people new to painting and using tape, remember to remove it before the paint dries. Also, LOL at all the "professionals" that are critical - this video is helpful for first time painters like myself, why are you watching painting how- to videos if you already know how to paint??

  • @lunagroove

i reallllly wish i had read your statement about removing tape before the paint dries. i screwed my windowsills up hahahahah

  • Comment removed

  • Thank you Andy, great explanation. I could say is one of the best I've heard in You Tube, when it comes to painting. You say what we should not do and why we should not do it, with some examples. I went over an almost dry part of the paint with the roller. Is there a way to fix that without having to do a second coat? I wish I had seen ur video first.

  • To get the best edge is to lay the tape down and then use a small bead of caulk on the edge of the tape to stop the bleeding. Being sure that you knock down the caulk really tight, just enough to seal the edge of the tape. You'll get a perfect edge that not even the best of painters can get by hand.

  • btw...ExpertRealEstateTips..gud technique..reli help some DIY kinda ppl tht has no knowledge in painting..thumbs up..and Imetalman2000! DUH! of coz pro painters dun use tape...tis video is for the beginners u dumbass

  • i dun understand with those rude ppl nwadays..giving negative comments n bashing ppl...leave us some gud video tht shows ur talent on painting 4 instant, instead of bashing ppl n leave nothing but BULLSHIT!

  • Hey Andy, thank you for taking the time to share your knowledge w us! This helped me alot. I'm painting my nephew's bed room right now, & I was curious on how to do the roller without leaving spots. You answered my questions w your video! Thanks again! :)

  • Do not waste time taping... it will never give the razor sharp edge that a great brush can !

  • if it is possible to do a one coat coverage ( which is possible with good hiding material) Technique is key. The right roller nap ( fine , short with a nice nap material )

put on the material smooth and no roller nap flopping and removing paint as you go , as well as it puts paint on. Cutting in is key also , stagger the cut in line jagged to meet a jagged roller pattern so both applications done leave any straight lines that will later show through the base color when dry.

  • Thanks for the video!!!!

  • The Good Handyman? You might be a handyman, but you're a horrible painter. You might want to work on a professional paint crew before you start putting up videos on how to paint.

  • great

    i love it

  • He taped the top of a door frame. enough said.

  • @tcdodson321 That's a mirror in the video buddy. His reflection in it, along with the fact that IT'S A MIRROR, gave it away for me :) Keep up the rude comments though, I can see they're really going well for you.

  • starting on my first paint job, and this really helped me feel better about doing it myself. thanks!

  • Great video thanks for sharing, great narration.

(Camera man why all the zooming tho'.?)

  • and this video is for people that don't know how to paint. so they will probably NEED to use tape. so people that say A PRO WOULD NEVER USE TAPE. get over yourself. TIP: if you do use tape, make sure you run your finger over the lip that is covered with tape SEVERAL times, like this guy is saying, sometimes the paint gets behind it, so. apply the tape well and paint over the tape 1 WALL at a time and pull the tape up. dont let the paint dry on the tape and the wall. or it will be pulled off.

  • tape does WORK well if applied right and pulled up on time. i dont use tape either, but LOTS of people need to. ive seen the disasters WAAAAY to many times that someone can create just because they were trying to "do it themselves" and i understand that, but dont create more imperfections than you need to. 0 of them is the goal. (some will never be perfect) thats hard to do so you just have to weigh the balance between you attempting to DIY and paying someone else to do it right.

  • First mistake he makes was Using BEHR Paint . Not pro painter will ever use that, and he is using a 2.5 in brush oil ,( on a latex paint) not to smart. and last He Tape ! lol not Pro Painter will tape to cut.

  • @pantherelio MISTAKE FOR USING BEHR PAINT? you obviously dont get enough work to make a statement like that. because you havent tried the NEW BEHR PAINT W/ PRIMER. is as good as it gets nearly. i used to ONLY suggest Benamin Moore. but the behr with primer is JUST AS GOOD and a little cheaper at 35.00.

  • @medicalsoup Anyone who claims that Behr Ultra is just as good as Benjamin Moore Aura or Sherwin Williams has no idea what they are talking about. The difference is like night and day when trying to roll it on the wall, not to mention the durability and look when the product dries.

  • @equilibrium1736 I must also add that Benjamin Moore Aura has no offending smells and is much better for the environment.

  • thanks for this video .. my 1st time learning to paint my room. mostly i will hire someone to do.

  • painters dont use masking tape as a rule

  • Well done

  • nice

  • whats up with all the paint on the outside of the can and back of the roller pan? that is avoidable every time by pouring correctly.

  • This is a good video for the homeowner. here's a few other tips that he did wrong though. first of all, let your cut-line dry fully before rolling, otherwise you will get an odd texture in the corners or like this guy, the paint will pull off the wall. secondly, you shouldn't over work the paint like this guy did, you have to get it on there and smooth it evenly, and then leave it alone! you can't just keep going over and over it again and again.

  • Wao Painters are smart, they can talk, and know about youtube!! lol -- Thanks for the smart painter video!!

  • good video......THANKS!!!!

  • I really liked this video. Thank U.

  • @milo555a - LoL

  • this video is ment for those who want to paint there own home // not for pro painters//i work for cordero painting copany and know this job is directed for homeowners so... all of u idiots shut up and relax.

  • you did a video to put on youtube. and not actually painted a wall .... fanciful.

  • He stuck his knee on the lid in the beginning.

  • 2 things wrong with this. 1 never use behr paints. if you need to do a touch up the finish never dries the same. second a real painter never tapes. If you noticed when he removed the tape you have a line where it wasn't painted by the tiles. take your time and feather the brisles down to the tiles or base boards what ever you are painting.

  • haha

    painful to watch

  • after the first few minutes I started to realize i'm painting my room wrong, oh well.....

  • I dont want to bag the guy but there are so many things this guy is doing wrong.

  • great tips Andy...been painting for years....I learned the hard way..trial and ezxperiance..you are spot-on :-)

  • Thnks man.it help alot.

  • why in hell would you paint the ceiling the same brown as the walls? my guess is because you can't cut the brown into a white ceiling...

  • Wearing gloves is a great idea. But I use a paint pad to paint in corners and against baseboards and borders - eliminating the need for tape and giving a finished edge in a fraction of the time.

  • Thank you so much !!

  • very informative!! great work and nice color scheme!!

  • this loooookkss likkeke fun! im ganna go paint my room now!!!!!!

  • really helped thanks

  • u guys are dumb it doesnt have to be done the same way every time i work in metal refinishing and sometimes we paint, usually we put paper with the tape to make sure no paint touches anything but as long as it comes out good it doesnt matter im sure anyones boss would be happy with that job including the customer

  • woow 5 star job der brov !

  • very helpful indeed!

  • thanks alot man!!! Can't wait to get started this week. What is the tape called that you use. Is it just painters tape.

  • @TheLobsterOfFate good one!!!! I like

  • Comment removed

  • ur amazing! this actually helped alot, thnx:)
