Negroni should be on the rocks, why mess with something that people already like? It's like serving a Martini with ice on top, it's ruining the taste.
Thank you for making this video, it's fantastic, I'm definitely subscribing. I've been meaning to make a negroni for some time, but haven't had any reason other than that to buy campari. Now, I keep a bottle of Cinzano on hand for Manhattans, do you think this will be sufficient for the negroni, or should I look for something else?
NEGRONI: 3cl Gin, 3cl Bitter Campari, 3cl Sweet Red Vermouth. Versare gli ingredienti direttamente in un bicchiere old fashioned con ghiaccio e decorare con mezza fetta d'arancia. Ricetta ufficiale I.B.A.
@GoodGrass46 am sorry you think that - I assume you mean it should be on the rocks? And thus garnished with an orange slice. But what proportions do you use?
@Fred333Bramming big difference. It would come out cloudy and oxidized if you shake it. I know it doesn't seem like much of a different thing, but believe me, you want to stir this drink.. not shake.... same with a martini.
i love both drinking and making Negroni's, and this is a great vid, however, may i offer a suggestion that may get me lynched......? TRY substiuting Campari for Aperol. It's a little bit softer, but, each to their own........try it and let me know
Your videos are terrific. Very instructional, you explain the "why" of everything that matters, and you're entertaining. The music is a little distracting, perhaps. But these are the best bartending videos on YouTube.
the negroni doesn't prepare him this way.the negroni he prepares on the rock's in old fashioned. there are besides many serious errors. in the mixing glass puts on the ice before. he cools. water is strained. the ingredients pour him on the ice. the barman has mixed for too much time. the negroni will result lengthened with the water of the ice that is excessively loosened. very bad
Where does a bartender put the ice after chilling the glass. Back to the basket of machine, would then the sodawater spoil the machine? Or to a drain?
I love the Negroni, and your presentation is excellent. Good with the flamed orange too, I think. What would it be called on the rocks with a bit of soda? Do you think it might work with a dash of tonic? Regards, JAD.
they think it sucks because its not how their mum makes it. for me it has all the crucial components, done expertly by someone who obviously knows what they are talking about. well done my man i would love to drink in your bar.
Dean and I had a conversation about this video tonight... he was surprised to find a Negroni on my cocktail menu at Johnny Rocco's in Niagara Falls :)
I obviously did not make it clear... its not because of fresh/salty water that it floats but it is true that the different freezing rate is. Icebergs are freshwater and ths freeze at a higher temp than saltwater
I'm a U.S. college student, and all of my friends are amazed at how well my daiquiri tastes, and love the new negroni (that none of us had heard of before). Also, I love that you keep it so simple. My friends just care about the quality of the drink, not the look of it.
@anguswinchester agreed. The only thing that threw me off a bit was the cocktail glass... I much prefer this drink straight up on the rocks.. but everything you did was straight to par... I've seen people on youtube shake negroni's forever in cocktail shakers making it cloudy... at least this was a good representation and technique of giving it the same good flavour and clear consistancy it should have.
yeah it wasnt so much about the floating as the 'why do you get massive chunks of ice while the 'water' does not freeze... badly worded. Thanks tho for your post.
Hey really nice video but icebergs float because of the fact that frozen water takes up more space than liquid water. This is because the molecular structure is different... But a nice cocktail!!

Awesome vid! Very informative. How big of a difference would it make, if I shaked it rather than stirred?

Hollowbarista 2 years ago
A drain. The soda water wont do any good for the machine and anyhow ice is practically free.
SBarnez 2 years ago
@Hollowbarista drain. They have ice machines so theres no point in saving ice.

am sorry you feel like that... I know many people serve it on the rocks but for the point of this video I served it up.
Can I ask why else it sucks?

That makes more sense. And that is a good point.

Great job on the video. One comment though...ice floats because it is less dense than water, not because of its salt content.

i think a negroni is better in a lowball served over ice. plus you don't look trendy

I agree that I prefer it on the rocks but needed to show it off in a cocktail glass but what the hell is up with looking 'trendy'?

What the heck? Who are you?
Personally I wouldn't really care if my bartender didn't look trendy, I'd care about the drinks he makes.
