The world is "shit" because people don't understand each other, and in other cases, some people have to have shitty lives for others to have better lives.

But in the end, no one really wants anyone else to suffer. (at least, no one considered mentally healthy) The only exception is people who want revenge, and in any case, it's not as common as in movies. Usually there are more reasonable motives than that to drastic actions.
