West Point and the Army try to follow the general diversity of the American population, so there are percentages every year that are required to be of minority groups. Speaking from experience, those who do are are just as qualified to be there as everyone else, minority or not

Not true. You do not need money to get in, the interviewing and selection process is very nonbiased. Also, you do not need any experience with JROTC or boy scouts. Just be a well rounded individual who has good grades in challenging level courses, be somewhat athletic, and hold leadership positions in sports or other organizations.

You are commissioned into the army, but you choose what branch of the army you want to go into, based on your class rank. Pretty much first come, first serve.

You can, but let me explain. In order to go into another branch of service, there is an application and interview process you must complete. Also, there must be a 1 to 1 trade between the different academies. If a dude from the naval academy wanted to go into the army, a cadet from west point could potentially switch branches with him. Each year there may only be 3 cadets that get the oppertunity to do this sort of thing.

i want to go to a military academy summer seminar so bad, but my gpa this year is about a 3.7 or 3.8, and my SATs are 620 right now but im taking them again soon, and will raise them but i dont think ill get in. my school is really competative, and i live in MA. im probs in the top 30i ran xc but no varsity, i run winter track and will make varsity, but thats it. i play rugby, am in band, but not a lot of extracurriculars. i want to go really bad though, looks awesome.

The tanks and rockets were part of the Ft. Knox trip, which didn't happen this past summer for Buckner due to the creation of the Maneuver Center in Ft. Benning. Future status isn't entirely known.

Mortars and the 105mm Howitzers are done on the West Point reservation during Buckner.

@supermaxmeister it's not officially posted. You can look into it by class percentages on the West Point website. But my best guess is on average the ACT scores are 27-30. Some higher but few lower.

How to prep for Beast....let me think.....figure out how much you want to be there.

Physical preparation could ease some of the strain in the PT and various other physical work you'll have to do, but really, its a mental challenge more than anything else. Don't quite, don't get hurt, and you'll make it through.

Academic year is just another challenge.

I've done JROTC all four years, I started a language club for Japanese at my school that I headed for a year during Junior year, I've done three service learning projects (helped at the Give Kids the World village for terminally ill children), and I'm on the Lacrosse team this year (this is the first year it has existed, though =) )

Other than that, just kept my grades up and worked hard at every aspect of being a good candidate.

Quick tip: Get your SAT/ACT as high as you can, and practice Practice PRACTICE for your nomination interviews. Those two are the big ticket items. Good luck to whoever is applying.

A letter of Assurance is a letter that West Point will send out to very competitive applicants. It says that you have a place in the class and then it will tell you what you need to do to get an actual appointment, usually it's a nomination or passing DODMERB. A lot of times it's recruited athletes who get them. If you have anymore questions, message me :).

A letter of assurance is a letter from the Director of Admissions at the USMA that basically states that you have what they're looking for and guarantees you a spot if you can get a Congressional or Senatorial (or Presidential) nomination. In a sentence: We want you.

@dongochu: The admissions office has a point system. It's super secret how much everything is worth, but you get points for things like your SAT score, class rank, gpa, leadership positions (class president/club officer/etc.), sports/varsity letters, and extracurriculars. Some kids even get LOAs before senior year starts. If you're serious, and a junior in HS or younger, apply for Summer Leaders Seminar. If you're a senior, then you're kind of SOL.

It's just like college. Graduate high school and have EXTREMELY good grades, then you might have a shot at getting in. It's one of the most prestigious academies in America.
