The answer is yes some people have Private health insurance which gets them a private room, annual health checks, some Private hospitals and few other bits and pieces. If things occasionally go wrong in the private system, the the patient is moved to the NHS. My company gives me Private health insurance, but frankly I've never bothered to use it. I'm glad I don't feel the fear of not being able to afford health treatment.

BTW, I pay 7% of my pay for the NHS.

I live in Canada, we have this similar system. I am not poor and broke beyond all reason. I get help any time I need it. I just had an ear infection, took droops for a week, fixed! France has a cost sharing system. It is the 3rd most expensive behind U.S., Sweden. Most people pay 18.8% out of their paycheck for it. and copays are 10% to 40%. thats why 92% buy a private insurance to P.U. cost not covered. They have to pay the cost up front then are reimbursed. They run a budget deficit on healthcare alone of 20 billion to 40 billion and rising. Their system would not work here because most of it is set up thru union funds.
