Math & Science Education in Washington State

What I would like to know is how to construct a computer and how that construction does what it does to make the computer do what it does when I use it. Not to say that I have the equipment needed to build it but that is besides the point. I hear all this talk about U.S. falling behing in science and tech. Yet, nowhere do I find access to the material necessary even to educate myself on the most important invention of our time.
