  • Too bad we don't have a decent live version. Cool tune.

  • roy is the best trumpet player of our time...

  • If anyone has the sheet music to this tune, please send it over, I'll PM you my email.

    much thanks

  • So I get to this High School Jazz camp up at EWU, and the guy there arranged this amazing chart for big band.... and arranged it well, too. Imagine the feel and groove of this chart mixed with a little trumpet screaming.... so satisfying.

  • @NtropyPyroductions Was it by any chance Vern Sielert? Because I played his arrangement of this song at Summer Music Clinic in Madison, WI last summer. It was so awesome, and he was a great conductor.

  • @imnotconnormulhern

No way! So did I! I was the guitar player. This is crazy! What are the odds? I mean, I guess pretty high. I don't think any of us can get this damn song out of our heads...

  • Christmas..

  • Roy Hargro(o)ve Quintet! ;D ^^

  • Love this song,,,,this is true U.S.A folk music...I think this tune could have been recorded a little slower, but even at this tempo the musician`s performance is 5 stars....

  • @astronomicato I'm diggin' the tempo..If you have dexterity, why not show it off? My 2 cents.

  • @astronomicato lol this is the original!!!

  • what's the name of this artist? is it Strasbourg St Denis or Roy Hargrove Quintet?

  • @RomanoMaSoGamesFAN the tune is Strasbourgh St. Denis, and the Roy Hargrove Quintet is the group... Roy is the man

  • @RomanoMaSoGamesFAN

    LOL!

    question of the day

  • so nice^^

  • Really nice. Out of sync but great sound.

  • One of the most satisfying jazz album this generation has to offer. The ballads are eternal. Thank you RH for the music.

  • very nice

  • As far as jazz goes, this is the shit. We're playing it in the jazz band at my school. Awsome!

  • Favorite song! The best ever!!! I like 1:34-1:50

  • Anybody knows the chords for this song (song is strasbourg st denis)?

  • It's really easy...

At the VERY easiest, (listening once), it's something like

    Fm9,Eb/G-AbMaj7

    Bbm9-Ab/C-DbMaj7 (with a walk down to F7/A)

    That's pretty much it

  • @bassist1627

    Bbm Cm Db x3

    Ab F7#9

  • @bassist1627 show off....just kidding. thanks

  • wow...i need to listen to stuff like this more often! ive been missing out all my life nd wasting my time listeining to mainstream hip hop lol

  • I listen to Death Metal, and even I LOVE THIS SONG!!

  • @Painkiller1157 I started with tech death before I really discovered jazz. It's honestly the closest form of modern music that has enough technicality to allow its listeners to appreciate jazz.

  • @Painkiller1157 i'm the same way. I love me some death metal

  • @Painkiller1157 haha, same mate!

  • @Painkiller1157

there are actually a shit load of jazz lovers/musicians who are into death metal as well. a drummer i was to start studying with is one, and so am i.

  • @Painkiller1157 Heard of Panzerballett? Perfect music for people who like jazz and metal. :D

  • @Painkiller1157 I listen to rap, this, metal, electronic music, classical, everything that sounds good. Please suck my dick because I am so fucking open to everything

  • @Painkiller1157 you stupid, stupid man.

  • @Painkiller1157 i really do listen to death metal i listen to all type of rock i like dubstep to and jazz.......... ik its wierd o and i skate:)))

  • @Painkiller1157 You'd be surprised by all the weird combination of genres people listen to on top of jazz.

The jazz band at my school have people who listen to opera, hard rock, country, indie rock, techno, classical, blue grass, all sorts of stuff.

  • roy hargrove is a genius!!!

  • Loving this song

  • LOVE LOVE LOVE this song.

    -Insom

  • jazz is so underrated! if ppl knew what was going through theses guys heads while they were playing, it would change their lives! put it this way, for every NOTE these guys play, they have a head full of tangents they can improvise on...the dynamics are brilliant!!!!

  • @danielrater09 or just as importantly what isnt going on in their heads. some people can just do this naturally

  • @danielrater09 what was going through these guys heads was a shit load of drugs. but i agree, i love jazz.

  • @TheBaymill ummm.... that's not true at all. a really silly thing to say

  • @SeriousPieEnthusiast

    ahahhahahaha

  • they brought up smooth jazz you niglet

  • @SeriousPieEnthusiast

    La puttana di mammata squagghiata!

Mo non mi capisci ah? Cugghioni di mberda...ti spaccu lu culu piezzu di ricchiunazzu ca no si atru.....suca! ; )

  • why would you just randomly say that smooth jazz is for tools then.

  • @SeriousPieEnthusiast

    Fuck you idiot...

  • What year did this album come out?

  • 2008

  • oh fuck u guys u can suck my dick this is like the bst song ever

  • true, but roy hargrove is actually a good trumpeter.

  • agreed

  • Thanks soooo much for postin this!!

    OOOOOO-weeeee!

  • They played this yesterday at the Bimhuis and it was damn great!

  • who cares about the genre!! it's sick!

  • What could I practice on to make it sound as if I was outside the key. I hear Kenny Garrett do it Justin Robinson do it, its dope.

  • Transcribe the solos you like note for note. Do that religiously for a few months and enjoy the results.

  • i'd suggest to try any sound/scale over a given chord like c sharp melodic minor over f maj... then listen well to the result and if you like it... after a while the best outside sounds will become part of your standard repertoire. good luck!

  • I would say that it is definitely not smooth jazz because of a number of things: it is in a traditional jazz combo setting (i.e. no synth/keyboards etc), contemporary soloing, and the artists involved are by no means smooth jazz musicians. i think a sort of funk/jazz fusion is more of an appropriate genre

  • OFF THA HOOK.

  • this is off the chain

  • I love new jazz. And as a musician who has played this song before, i was wondering. Am i the only one who things this is verging on the smooth lie? hit me back.

  • Smooth line*

  • No way man, I'd say souljazz. Almost like his RH Factor stuff but with more focus on improv.

  • yea i can see that. but you can smooth up his stuff so easily. But yea, i like the soul jazz thing. But no matter what he is always playing with so much intensity

  • Um I actually dont think its anywhere near smooth because it has real instruments and a more funk groove.

  • LOL hey dave smooth jazz uses real instruments too. lol

  • Yes, even though I dont like to walk at Strasbourg saint denis I really love this song, and it somehow matches this place !

  • I like jazz but had never heard this song until I was on a flight back to the States from (where else) Paris. This song puts into music everything my heart feels when I visit Paris. Every time I listen to it, I'm transplanted back to my March 2009 visit. Thank you Roy, you have a new fan in me!

  • i fail at playing this on the sax compared to these guys. i played it in my school band and my god is it difficult with all the articulation. like everything is so clean.

  • it helps to play it megga slow, u feel like a douche but as u speed it it up u still got it

  • i know roy :P

  • I wanna now roy :(

  • style

  • Love this band!! The absolute best jazz has to offer!!

  • i neeeeed this album

  • woah. hey victor.

  • i would love this song and maybe two others off Earfood? It would be greatly appreciated. The other two are your decision, i don't know the album

  • I need the email address please

  • i heard this last night on wrti phila and immediately went bananas

  • this is one of their best tunes! I love how uplifting and bright it is. When I first heard it, it was at a live show and it was so mindblowing, I had kept humming it to myself so I could learn it after the show. :)
