But the final election results showed that he did not lose that bad. Kerry won 252 electoral votes (18 shy from the required 270) and 59,028,444 popular votes (the largest number for a Democratic ticket in history before 2008). Pretty much a close margin in this election.
Speaking as a lifelong Democrat, but in my opinion, John Kerry could have won in 2004 if he would not have been victimized by the politics of fear and smear by Karl Rove, if the swift boat veterans would have not walked all over him, and if he would have not flip-flopped on many important issues, including the Iraq war.
Kerry was an incredibly flawed and unlikable candidate and that was his ultimate undoing. There were better candidates on the Democrat side in 2004 just as there were better candidates on the Republican side in 2008. Sometimes only the clarity of hindsight allows to see that we backed the wrong horse. The truth is that the stars really aligned for Bush in 2004 and I'm not sure that anyone could have overcome that! The same can be said about Obama and McCain in 2008!
love the senator/candidate thing. revenge is a bitch republicans saying he was a flip-flopper because he changed his mind on an issue that he is proven to be right about changing his mind on, the war. now you republicans, hmmm sounds like mccains doing the same thing except switching to the wrong side! REVENGE IS A BITCH!
'There's a slip." My favorite part.

90% with Bush is misleading in a sense that McCain voted with him on things that Dems were proud of
