For god's sake why won't you just record yourself talking with these cameras? We need to know how well these will record ordinary fairly close conversations. Jeez. You'd think this would be dead obvious. I'm sorry for the negative comment. But it's just so frustrating to watch all these reviews and still have almost no idea of how well the mic will work for picking up conversations.

Against my better judgement I bought one of these keyring cameras - I have found anything made in China usually to be worthless junk, but as that seems to be the only country making anything nowadays ! I got the cam for a specific purpose, namely for filming on an indoor/outdoor model railway at track level. I must say it works VERY WELL, and I am very pleased with it - the narrow field of view is much better for this kind of 'project'. Very good review from you - professionally made.

Really helpful video. I just received my 808 with its cryptic instructions. BTW to fix the time I found I could edit the TAG file directly on the camera with wordpad.

All i can say is that people who buy this so called "spying" stuff in 2011 are STUPIDOS!

For recording sports and stuff like that it might be good. But for everything else there are much better solutions.

To take a pic, click front button once. light will flash once. For a vid hold same down 2secs (cont.)

I'm assuming that the model reviewed here is the #3....well, its very cheap anywhere but definitely stretchy. I've seen that the #11 camera / Jumbo is the best out there with native wide resolutions, so I guess that anything before #11 is a waste of money. Terrible framerates, rolling shutter and chromatic aberrations due to poor auto white balance.

Maybe this cam is somehow good for spying, but overall it sucks.

808 #11 is definitely a win.

Since you're interested in cameras, you might have a look at the H264 1920x1080 camcorder I did a couple videos with in this channel. It cost me around 80 usd about one year ago. It is a pisto grip camera similar to the HP 5040v. The brand is pretty unknown, called "Sumishi"..weird but nice quality. Unfortunately I had to sell it before being able to review it properly

These cameras are 110% junk don't buy one out of 10 uses the camera will jam freeze 8 times usually in a roll but not always you will get about a dimes worth of use from it before you discover you wasted your money the way its made the time will never set on these units not ta once with the time file and time text camera internal system will not over ride to set from time file they are junk items but one thing I can say the picture and video quality is very clear and great quality

Argh bugger, i think i have bricked mine.

I just got it yesterday and installed the 50min file and all that comes on now is just power light when i connect to the laptop.

I did the timestamp trick and that worked then i put in the 50 min file as above and nothing.

Is there anyway of getting it back to working or am i stuffed.

@Peddersdub I assume that you are talking about the HD 808#3. Try connecting it to your laptop and then put it into webcam mode by using the method of holding both buttons shown in the video. Also have a read at my associated blog post - link in the HD808 youtube notes.

I did as you suggessted and the orange light came on, then i knew ihad something, but when i came to use as normal it wouldn't work.

So i put sd card in the lappy and put the 20min file from your website onto it and after a few goes, it came back to life, all working as it should.

Thou i am not certain mine is an hd one even thou just brought it and paid £26 from ebay.

Okay, I've got a couple new comments after owning mine for a while. One, I get exactly 31 minutes, 35 seconds on a 1 Gig micro SD card. The battery lasts the full time. I'm not sure why you are getting only 10 minutes per gig. I wasn't sure on the battery charge time, what I found out is that the LED light will slowly blink when the device is charging. A solid light means it is charged. I've been extremely pleased and after a little looking I found that I have a version 3 camera.
