Zetsu is mainly used for Defence and observation.

He is consitered a "Tool" For the akatsuki.

Only bad thing about Zetsu is he cannont attack, Only with his flytrap.

zetsu is not a tool for akatsuki he knows more about akatsuki than all the other members...the real master minds are him, madara and pein , kisame and that girl

well for all you know yes zetsu could be used for attack since we have not seen any of his jutsu's apart from his concielment jutsu used to hide himself from the byakugan
