Her belts are magnificent in this performance! It sounded like she was singing Cant Let Go.I actually like this version better than the album version hands down. Mariah's Emotion's era vocals were quite a force to be reckoned with because they were jazzy, powerful and soulful at the same time. I can only imagine how the other songs on her Merry Christmas album would've sounded had she recorded it in this era! Pure magic!!!

And now she has Nodules on her vocal chords which, makes it hard for her to take a deep breath and belt all the time. It is still a powerful instrument, and with time she has learn more control over it and was able to experiment in subtleties and restraint (something I believe she has perfected: the less can be more approach).

Her voice was much rounded and full - there is strong vibrato and she sings it higher. What changed was her stage presence - she became a better 'performer' and not just a singer.

I really enjoyed the way her smooth breathy vocals sounded in this early period in her carear. As her voice chaged over the years and became thinner and pitchier and less "solid and mature" also the breathy vocals which adorned her vocal qualities began overshadowing everything else. @HERBLANDZ she did actually write 4 new songs on the new christmas album, which are very good. Its christmas music, but its still takes a talented artist to create a good, new christmas song. They are the only christmas songs for a long time that I would keep listening to in the future.

That's what you really can call a PERFECT performance. It is amazing the way she alternates low and high notes, always maintaining the beauty and the quality of her vocals. Pure talent.

Her voice was much more powerful with more soul; she really sang. She hadn't really started her breathy thing yet. I much preferred her sound back then.

Her voice suffered some minor damage,but you should really listen o her new Christmas album,it has some huge vocals on there.The reason why her voice changed is because she has a medical conditions on her chords called nodules.

@dm3889 No need to be a fan to acknowledge that Mariah's and Whitney's vocal singing style became a role model for many of the contemporay pop and r&b singers of our times. If it weren't for those 2 I don't know where all the other would have gone in their lives. Whitney became the very first big female vocal performer worldwide after the golden period of soul and r&b back in the 60s andd 70s represented by Aretha and Patti e.g.. After Whitney came Mariah and Celine now fhe list keeps growing!

@HERBLANDZ she did actually write 4 new songs on the new christmas album, which are very good. Its christmas music, but its still takes a talented artist to create a good, new christmas song. They are the only christmas songs for a long time that I would keep listening to in the future.

I think she sounds amazing! hitting all the high and low notes! but i would like it if she didn't keep stopping in a verse. for example singing one whole phrase without stopping to breathe until the next phrase. but she likes this style though.

Here she looks beautiful and classy. I hate the way she dresses now days. Her focus seems to be on the music here and not theatrics. I wish she would go back to heartfelt and leave all the diva drama stuff that makes her look foolish. We all know she has what it takes, she has already proven it. Why all the fake stuff now?
