In the business she was known as "the perfect techician." She would go into a recording session to do four songs no one had ever heard of and do the song perfectly in one take. Mercury would do multiple takes for safety purposes but she really was flawless every time. Interestingly, over the decades she re-recorded her hits many times and each new version was a little different from the early versions. So she artistically wasn't a robot, just very able to do what she did.
