Why does Mclane reel mowers not give instruction on how to adjust their mowers? They don't answer the phone or reply emails. I bought a used one and had the reel grinded and I think that it screwed me up. Now the mower won't get every blade of grass in my yard. The mower itself is a pain to adjust. The only thing that you can adjust is the reel, not the bedknife. It is maddening. I just want to get rid of it and get that mower you have in this video. Thanks.
This may be a stupid question, but what do you do with all the clippings when you're finished mowing? Do you go over the area with a gas powered mower with a bag?
Of course not. Because reel mowers tend to cut grass differently, the grass clippings tend to stay green and are very hard to notice until they are gone. Because of the design, they also tend to be better dispersed on the ground as the spread of grass clippings is wider. Finally, reel mowers are harder to use in taller grasses, so usually they are used when the grass isn't as tall, thus wouldn't require raking. That being said, you can get a basket for them that catches the grass clippings.
I appreciate your video! I'm getting a used Scott's Classic and have read that adjusting the blades is one of the most common types of maintenance required on these mowers, but since I'm getting mine used I don't think I will have the luxury of a manual - so thanks!
I've still got it...the problem is it's max height is 1.5"...well, I mow at 2-1/4", so not practical for my lawn. I'll be shooting a first start of the year video for it, complete with cussing as I'm sure it's gonna take several starts before it even thinks for firing. LOL
For rust prevention do you just spray it down with wd40.

@ranger220022 You certainly can, it is for sure a choice, however reel mowers have definite appeal, especially for folks with smaller lawns.

I just got one of these today. Its the greatest thing ever, I don't know why people still use gas powered mowers when they can use a reel mower!

Pitty they don't make an electric powered reel mower.

Great tutorial! I believe these are still very useful and hope manufacturing never completely stops or are forgotten.
