@videogameobsessionwell after playing my neo-geo through the ant./cable in I have decided change is good. I miss the smell of new fresh cardboard, and the freshly printed game manuals, now everything smells old and moldy. like the baseball cards i "wanted" when i was a kid. so i get it, just seems like a waste of time and money. but hey, i sold some of my stuff on ebay before, and i may have some more to get rid of. are you looking for anything specific? i have 2 different ver. of the saturn
@s5u0myn0nA Sorry to hear that. Everything I have was saved in plastic and stored in humidity controlled settings so even the Pong from 1972 looks (and smells) brand new.
I'm glad I saved all of my collection. It's fun to go back and play games from when I was a kid and they've pretty much all jumped in value so I don't see it as a waste at all. For example.. my DKJR Math NES CIB I bought for $8 and I was just offered $950 for it. Not too bad eh? ;)
@s5u0myn0nA I kept my Genesis, Sega-CD, and 32X separate because they were different platforms in the way that they used there own specific software. Like you mentioned, there were a couple 32X games that also utilized the SCD add-on as well, but for the most part they did not.
If you have a list of what you are selling please msg me. I may be interested. Thanks
Oh god, that's an amazing collection, and I see on your website that you have an assload of games for each of them. Also, Metal Gear Solid OST is automatic win.
That's a tad on the high side compared to what they are here. Typically $10-$15 each. The yellowing I think depends on the conditions the console are put through. I know higher heat (direct sunlight for instance) can cause the yellowing to be extreme. I've seen some pretty terrible looking SNES's too! :P I guess they had to conform to the strict fire safety laws though. The fire retardant in the plastic is the cause of the yellowing.
@Nesplayer101 I try to avoid eBay whenever possible too. :P
I do have a Vectrex + a multigame cartridge. I forgot to get that, my Virtual Boy, and older systems in the shot though. I have a bunch of pictures on my website though if you want to check out the rest of my collection.
Oh and $20 for a Vectrex!?! Now that's a great deal you found! :)
Believe it or not those older systems will look much better on this TV (36" JVC 800lines of resolution + Svideo) than a newer HDTV. As I mentioned in the description I have a different setup now. That was shot in 2004. I now own a few HD panels and I have my newer stuff (Wii, PS3, 360) connected to those.
The systems weren't rare back when they were releases. :P I've been collecting since the early days of video gaming. eBay would be the place to look.
The device under the N64 is a Doctor v64 back-up device/VCD player. It allows you to put your N64 game roms and saves onto CDs and play them on an N64.
@Wolfsdsa Read descriptions much? "This video was shot in 2003. I have since added the Xbox 360, Wii, Sony Playstation 3, and NEO-GEO CD, and a new TV."
CRT's do blow away any HDTV for standard def signals..
forgive me if you already answered this on your comments earlier (I searched the first 10 pages and didn't see anything) What is the white base station under your N64? I've seen that once before but can't remember what it is for the life of me.
It's a Doctor v64 back-up device/VCD player. It allows you to dump all of your cartridges onto a CDs. I's also region free so you can play Euro and Japanese games too which is handy. I have more pictures and info on my website, videogameobsession(dot)com (click on the boxes, then on "Taiwan Imports")
I have many of the Xport and Mednafex emus on my Xbox too, but I still like to have the original hardware. Some games just don't do well with emulation. Like the raster stuff on the Neo-Geo. It looks wrong or doesn't work right. Riding Hero for example.
The Xbox is also too slow to emulate most PSX and N64 games and they don't fully emulate the Emotion Engine or Reality CPU properly.
Its only got 64mb of ram is one reason. Some of my PS1 work great, others have sound problems. You should try Coinops Re-Ignite or Final Burn Legends on Xbox, those are good arcade emulators.
More RAM might help, but the problem is more with the CPU being only 733Mhz. There are RAM workarounds for larger roms such as the larger Neo-Geo roms and those work pretty well with little or no slowdown.
I do have CoinOps Re-Ignite R3 which fixes some stuff and FB Legends which seems just like FBXXXPro with video previews, but that's all it needed. :)
The main thing I like about real consoles is playing with the original controllers.
Thanks. I own a Vectrex, but this video is more focused on systems that are connected to a single TV. Since the Vectrex is a stand alone console it's not a part of this video. Same thing with the Virtual Boy, as well as portables.
Vectrex does rock. My brother and I bought one when they were still being sold at Toys R Us.
If you check out my link in the description, you will see pictures of my Vectrex system as well as box and overlay scans from my collection.
Well, in 2003 yeah. I added a PS3, Wii, 360, Neo-Geo CD, etc.. I have around 80 systems. All of them have boxes and about half are new in sealed boxes.
i have a very similar setup but my tv just died and is at the curb so now im sy=tuck with a little 20 in" :-( oh wel u have a very nice collection i just gotta get mine a little more organized i really liked your website as well its very well put together keep the cool videos coming :-) subbed 5/5*'s
Sorry to hear about your TV! This video was actually shot back in '03. I now have a 52" LCD, but the older stuff just doesn't look so hot anymore so I may move it all to my game room and connect it to a CRT. (once I have everything organized that is!)
Hey, thanks for subscribing. You are the 100th subber!
"Subscribers:100" Sorry, there is no prize for that.. :P
I am planning on putting the video of my collection room very soon.
You said you connected older consoles on another t.v. Do you have them connected to some sort of Coax switch or do you take them out manually depending on what console you play?
I had a 4 coax switcher, but it hasn't worked in a while.
I am wondering if an composite "RCA" switcher could be used if if added prior to the TV/GAME switch part. I haven't tried it, but it seems like it should work.
The thing is, I have something like you. I have a crap load of consoles as well. I've been collecting for twenty years now. And unless you do some sort of hardware mod, the older consoles use the RF adapter. I wanted to connect all those old consoles to one t.v. and wanted to avoid switching the cables every time I wanted to play. I want to know where it is that you got that coax switcher. I'm having a tough time finding one that holds more than three.
It lets you backup your N64 carts and play them from either a PC via parallel or from a CD on the included disc drive. It also plays VCD movies, audio CDs, etc..
Thanks! I wish I had room for the 1st gen stuff too. :P I am rethinking my setup though. We recently bought a new 52" 1080p LCD and the older stuff just doesn't look too great on it. I may move everything to an older CRT and keep the newer stuff connected to the new tv.. Decisions...
Thanks. I just checked out your collection. Lots of cool things. Some day (hopefully) I will find the video of my game room. I see we have a lot of the same promos! :P
I used to have a ton of the cardboard standees, but I just didn't have the room for them and was forced to sell. :( I miss the Tekken 3 and Cloud Strife 6-footers. Oh well. I left a couple comments on your vid. Stay in touch.
Hah cool, i thouht of doing something like this, i only got 8 hooked up at once, although i have to do a few cord switcheroos when i wanna play certain ones, i only have a 6 system selector.
go onto your account, then go on playback settings, and click on the down arrow by annotations, then tick the box that says hide annotations or turn them off or something, then nothing but the video will appear.
I'm working on the same thing. Right now I've got 8 systems. I love how organized your stuff is. Where did you get the racks and how much were they? (if you don't mind me asking)
Sounds good! I don't mind... I bought them from BJ's Wholesale. I think I saw them at Home Depot as well. They come in a few different styles. The heavy duty (500lbs per shelf) chrome being the most expensive at $85. The one in the vid (75lbs per shelf) cost around $50. I like them because they are easy to set up and break down when it comes time to move.
You may also find them cheaper at a medical or kitchen supplier since they are popular for storing items. Good Luck&Thanks for the comment!
Perhaps because it was shot in 2003 (like the description says) and maybe people who make dumb comments about my TV just don't read the description before asking dumb questions. Who knows...
how many consoles can that area hold ;) I checked on Neo Geo on ebay close to 200.00 but oh well. I just got my nintendo hooked up to lcd cant play duck hunt :(
I had 22 consoles set up on it once. I guess it depends on how close the shelves are to each other. You could probably fit even more than that, but it would be a pain to change the cartridges on the top loading systems.
Yeah, no light guns on LCD tvs. Which is why I
m keeping my Wega CRT. Maybe Nintendo will release it for the Wii (VC) so you can still play it.
I was an idiot to setting up nintendo to lcd it was easy I thought I needed a special cord to hook up to the dvd player which it worked but Oh well now its to the tv lol...
Yeah, alot of those gun based games like Duck Hunt or Safari Hunt were made for the older television sceens. The LCD TV screen has a different shape to it, so it may not work. Good thing you can still buy those SDTVs from stores, lolz.
This is really awesome dude...u bring back a lot of old memories...i remember my atari 2600 back in the 80s..and then the NES which was too good...not sure why everyones talking about the absence of an lcd...ur set up is really "classic"..keep it up..its great to be so passionate about something in life...cheers...!!
Why people don't read the description is beyond me.
This video was shot 6 years ago. Also, that TV is far from crap, even by today's standards. It's a 36" JVC 480p 800 line resolution monitor. Most older consoles (non HD (480p) will look better on a CRT than any LCD or plasma.
__________________________________________
This video was shot in 2003. I have since added the Xbox 360, Wii, Sony Playstation 3, and NEO-GEO CD, and a new TV
yeah, I caused a city wide black out! I haven't turned anything off since 2003. My monthly electric bill was $2600, After adding the Neo-Geo CD and PS3 it jumped to $5200! Hey, it could be worse...
awesome collection man. I think i might do something like that in the future with all my systems and hook them all up on a rack like that with my old school 19" tv i have sitting in the basement. Check my collection out.
If you grew up in the days of RF gaming.. composite and S-video isn't bad at all! Most TVs in the USA don't have RGB. That's more of a Euro thing (SCART). I had a small Amiga CRT with RGB, but it was too small to game on.
To be honest, I don't recall where I got them from. It was sometime in the late 90's, but I think I saw them recently at Home Depot and Walmart. They were a bit pricey... $60 and $100 for the larger version that also holds more weight (500lbs per shelf)
Thanks. Keep in mind the video was made over 5 years ago. I have made several upgrades since then. Unfortunately many of the older systems look better on a CRT though.
i had the same type of set up but shrunk it down to 4 consoles xbox1 with every nes/snes/gen/tg16/atari/arcade rom. ps3 handles all ps1&2 duties & plays all the snk stuff.saturn just because & wii for n64
If you are going to use one system for emulating you are better off with a laptop with hdmi output. The Xbox just can't handle many arcade games from the mid 90's without tons of frame skip and lag. I have an 80GB PS3 with some PS2 emulation, but it doesn't play all the originals.
Well, it's been setup for 8 years without a single problem. Most systems vent in the back. If you own any of these systems you would know this. Judging from your name you probably emulate everything.
My oldest cd based system, the CD-i, still spins and loads perfectly and that's now 18 years old. The PSX is also fine.
Relax, that video was shot in 2004. What makes you think I have the same tv or that yours is better? Who cares? I certainly didn't share this video to challenge anyone's tv quality.
My older consoles will surely outlive the Xbox 360. The older systems will last a lifetime by the way. I have Pong consoles from 1972 that work perfectly. No moving parts = nothing to wear out.
i would say you ruined the setup by having a 3DO, but that's not true. actually having a CD-i there is what really kills it. seriously, put that thing in a garage sale...
They both have good games. They may not be the best consoles ever released, but they have a few good games. They also both have S-Video outputs and the CD-i redbook audio blows away most other players (under the $10,000 mark). Even the PSX 1001 doesn't compare.
Have you actually tried either one of those systems? Don't just listen to what everyone else says. Decide for yourself. Try Burn Cycle, Voyeur, Escape from Cyber-City. It also has history with Nintendo ( 3 zelda & 2 mario games)...
ugh, i'd never try the Mario games... and i have plenty of other CD player around lol (SegaCD). as for VCDs, ya it was good at the time, but never caught on, well cept in Asia. even i only used the format for a short time be4 i got a DVD burner. besides, don't u need an expansion thingy to be able to play VCDs? i remember them saying that from a old promo vid.
There was a Mario game in the works (Super Mario's Wacky Worlds that had fx the SNES couldn't even handle. Google it and you will find some videos and pictures. It was canceled only 10% into development though.
The Sega-CD has terrible audio output even on the front loader model. The CD-i was never big in Asia. UK is another story though. It was still selling up until 2002 there.
You need a Digital Video Cart adapter to play FMV full screen video with the games that support it.
Not to mention for it's time it had the best quality full screen, full motion video around. It paved the way for DVD & Blu-Ray video with it's Video-CD (Whitebook video) or VCD movies. I also used the Kodak Photo-CD player on it quite a bit. Not to mention it was one of the first systems to have internet service.
The 3DO had some great games too. Gex, Crash n Burn, Street Fighter 2 Turbo, and EA supported it before the PSX, Madden, Road Rash 3D, FIFA, Foes of Ali (precursor to Fight Night)! etc
what are you talking about? the cd-i never had any good games.. but it had a few hundred titles released for it.. multimedia, music and game titles... all shit
No, It's occurred to me that the internet is full of idiots though. Those idiots listen to other idiots and they pass on their same ideas without trying the games for themselves. Knowing the CD-i doesn't EMULATE well I'm sure you haven't tried it for yourself.
Damn, dude. Here's what I own: SNES PSone PS2 N64 Gamecube PS3 SegaSaturn GameBoy Pocket " Color " Advance Sega Dreamcast Atari 2600 Jr. Sears Atari Clone (Pretty much the same as a 2600) Video Games ftw!!!!
and i can run most of that on a computer i found out by the street.
Richy0money 2 days ago
@Richy0money No offense, but with a comment like that you just don't get it..
Of course you can emulate it! Though usually the emulation is different in some ways, inaccurate, or buggy.
You can also download a JPEG of the Mona Lisa, but wouldn't you rather own the original? OF COURSE YOU WOULD!

What is the N64 sitting on?
maddog218 2 years ago
It's a Doctor V64 "VCD player" :P
videogameobsession 2 years ago
what does it do exactly?
Swi2ler 2 years ago
It lets you backup your N64 carts and play them from either a PC via parallel or from a CD on the included disc drive. It also plays VCD movies, audio CDs, etc..

Awsome, just awsome. Loved the MGS music

Excellent setup. I just set mine up to have about 10 at a time. You have some rare systems that I do not. I'm jealous!
DlNKYDANA 2 years ago
Thanks! I wish I had room for the 1st gen stuff too. :P I am rethinking my setup though. We recently bought a new 52" 1080p LCD and the older stuff just doesn't look too great on it. I may move everything to an older CRT and keep the newer stuff connected to the new tv.. Decisions...

lol how a video game looks dosnt matter to me as long as its on a big tv and loud XD haha

oldtiredman 2 years ago
Stay in touch.

totaltrekker 2 years ago
I'm working on the same thing. Right now I've got 8 systems. I love how organized your stuff is. Where did you get the racks and how much were they? (if you don't mind me asking)
gutterguy720 2 years ago
Sounds good! I don't mind... I bought them from BJ's Wholesale. I think I saw them at Home Depot as well. They come in a few different styles. The heavy duty (500lbs per shelf) chrome being the most expensive at $85. The one in the vid (75lbs per shelf) cost around $50. I like them because they are easy to set up and break down when it comes time to move.
You may also find them cheaper at a medical or kitchen supplier since they are popular for storing items. Good Luck&Thanks for the comment!

so many games.. such a shit tv:( why is this the case with everyone? please tell me why
nimrod814 2 years ago
Perhaps because it was shot in 2003 (like the description says) and maybe people who make dumb comments about my TV just don't read the description before asking dumb questions. Who knows...
videogameobsession 2 years ago
I wish this wasnt an expesnive hobby :P:P
lestat34208 2 years ago
It doesn't have to be. You can always start small. No need to go right for the Neo-Geo or anything! :P
videogameobsession 2 years ago
how many consoles can that area hold ;) I checked on Neo Geo on ebay close to 200.00 but oh well. I just got my nintendo hooked up to lcd cant play duck hunt :(
lestat34208 2 years ago
I had 22 consoles set up on it once. I guess it depends on how close the shelves are to each other. You could probably fit even more than that, but it would be a pain to change the cartridges on the top loading systems.
Yeah, no light guns on LCD tvs. Which is why I
m keeping my Wega CRT. Maybe Nintendo will release it for the Wii (VC) so you can still play it.
videogameobsession 2 years ago
I was an idiot to setting up nintendo to lcd it was easy I thought I needed a special cord to hook up to the dvd player which it worked but Oh well now its to the tv lol...
lestat34208 2 years ago
Yeah, alot of those gun based games like Duck Hunt or Safari Hunt were made for the older television sceens. The LCD TV screen has a different shape to it, so it may not work. Good thing you can still buy those SDTVs from stores, lolz.

i play all my games on little tv's, plasma and big screens have sooo much lag i can stand them.

Why people have these great set-ups, only to be wasted with a crap tv.
Apart from that its a great set-up. That is so true Vaultboy123.
thecowandme1 2 years ago
Why people don't read the description is beyond me.
This video was shot 6 years ago. Also, that TV is far from crap, even by today's standards. It's a 36" JVC 480p 800 line resolution monitor. Most older consoles (non HD (480p) will look better on a CRT than any LCD or plasma.

This video was shot in 2003. I have since added the Xbox 360, Wii, Sony Playstation 3, and NEO-GEO CD, and a new TV

To connect classic consoles and not die of disgust, it remains better a good CRT with RGB.
lNFERNO 2 years ago
If you grew up in the days of RF gaming.. composite and S-video isn't bad at all! Most TVs in the USA don't have RGB. That's more of a Euro thing (SCART). I had a small Amiga CRT with RGB, but it was too small to game on.
videogameobsession 2 years ago
Thanks.

please tell me where you got that rack i'm looking for something like that for my consoles
mevans1182 2 years ago
To be honest, I don't recall where I got them from. It was sometime in the late 90's, but I think I saw them recently at Home Depot and Walmart. They were a bit pricey... $60 and $100 for the larger version that also holds more weight (500lbs per shelf)
Good Luck!
videogameobsession 2 years ago
Very nice dude have some of the best like my favorites neo geo, men upgrade your screen a lcd will be great congratulatios nice collection
archypop 2 years ago
Thanks. Keep in mind the video was made over 5 years ago. I have made several upgrades since then. Unfortunately many of the older systems look better on a CRT though.

where did you get the 16 port video switcher?
ViaLaBam25 2 years ago
It's 2 6port powered iR RCA S-video switchers and 2 standard composite switchers. You can find them on eBay.
videogameobsession 2 years ago
i had the same type of set up but shrunk it down to 4 consoles xbox1 with every nes/snes/gen/tg16/atari/arcade rom. ps3 handles all ps1&2 duties & plays all the snk stuff.saturn just because & wii for n64
skywarp187 2 years ago
If you are going to use one system for emulating you are better off with a laptop with hdmi output. The Xbox just can't handle many arcade games from the mid 90's without tons of frame skip and lag. I have an 80GB PS3 with some PS2 emulation, but it doesn't play all the originals.

Yeah I used to have
NES,SNES,Genesis w/powerbase for SMS,N64,PS,PS2,Xbox,DC,TG16,GC w/Gameboy player, all hooked up and then decided to just to reduce that to 3.
Xbox 360 w/BC for most Original Xbox
PS3 (60gb) w/bc for PS1&PS2
Wii (w/BC NES,SNES,N64,GC,TG16,Gensis,SMS,NEO-GEO)
But then I sold my PS3 and Wii.. never really played them much.
Now its jus my PC & Xbox.. and you know what that is more than enough. So in closing, been there, done that. Less is more sometimes. :-)

thesixshot 3 years ago
It's a Doctor64. It lets you back up your carts to a CD and play them on the console.
videogameobsession 3 years ago
hahaha, all consoles lined up blocking each others vents.. which is going to overheat first? my money is on the 360
bet the power socket looks like shit with all that lot plugged in..
the cd consoles will need replacement disc drives soon.. my money is on the psx going first in that department
emuholic 3 years ago
Well, it's been setup for 8 years without a single problem. Most systems vent in the back. If you own any of these systems you would know this. Judging from your name you probably emulate everything.
My oldest cd based system, the CD-i, still spins and loads perfectly and that's now 18 years old. The PSX is also fine.
videogameobsession 3 years ago
i have my fair share of consoles, not as many as you.. but about 4 or 5
XBOX 360-XBOX, PS3-PS1, DS-GBA, Wii-GameCube
I run games for older systems through virtual console or xbox live arcade.
Less wires, less plugs, more free sockets for me. Hardware new enough to have replacable parts too, what a bonus!
And my TV shits on yours.
I'm not suprised your cdi still spins... there's no decent games to play on it - that thing will last forever...
but the other cd systems won't
emuholic 3 years ago
Relax, that video was shot in 2004. What makes you think I have the same tv or that yours is better? Who cares? I certainly didn't share this video to challenge anyone's tv quality.
My older consoles will surely outlive the Xbox 360. The older systems will last a lifetime by the way. I have Pong consoles from 1972 that work perfectly. No moving parts = nothing to wear out.
videogameobsession 3 years ago
emuholic...
shut up!
morro281 3 years ago
i would say you ruined the setup by having a 3DO, but that's not true. actually having a CD-i there is what really kills it. seriously, put that thing in a garage sale...
aj0049 3 years ago
They both have good games. They may not be the best consoles ever released, but they have a few good games. They also both have S-Video outputs and the CD-i redbook audio blows away most other players (under the $10,000 mark). Even the PSX 1001 doesn't compare.
Have you actually tried either one of those systems? Don't just listen to what everyone else says. Decide for yourself. Try Burn Cycle, Voyeur, Escape from Cyber-City. It also has history with Nintendo ( 3 zelda & 2 mario games)...
videogameobsession 3 years ago
ugh, i'd never try the Mario games... and i have plenty of other CD player around lol (SegaCD). as for VCDs, ya it was good at the time, but never caught on, well cept in Asia. even i only used the format for a short time be4 i got a DVD burner. besides, don't u need an expansion thingy to be able to play VCDs? i remember them saying that from a old promo vid.
aj0049 3 years ago
There was a Mario game in the works (Super Mario's Wacky Worlds that had fx the SNES couldn't even handle. Google it and you will find some videos and pictures. It was canceled only 10% into development though.
The Sega-CD has terrible audio output even on the front loader model. The CD-i was never big in Asia. UK is another story though. It was still selling up until 2002 there.
You need a Digital Video Cart adapter to play FMV full screen video with the games that support it.
videogameobsession 3 years ago
SegaCD: # Maximum sample rate: 44.1 kHz for CD-DA
# 16 bit DAC
# 8x internal over-sampling digital filter
# Frequency Range: 20 Hz - 20 kHz
# Signal-to-Noise Ratio: > 90.0 dB @ 1K
# Channel Separation: > 90.0 dB
hmmm, those specs seem pretty much on par with good CD players of the time.
seriously??!? CD-i was still selling THAT long in the UK? that's messed up...
and ya, that Mario game turned into Hotel Mario i know.
aj0049 3 years ago
Not to mention for it's time it had the best quality full screen, full motion video around. It paved the way for DVD & Blu-Ray video with it's Video-CD (Whitebook video) or VCD movies. I also used the Kodak Photo-CD player on it quite a bit. Not to mention it was one of the first systems to have internet service.
The 3DO had some great games too. Gex, Crash n Burn, Street Fighter 2 Turbo, and EA supported it before the PSX, Madden, Road Rash 3D, FIFA, Foes of Ali (precursor to Fight Night)! etc
videogameobsession 3 years ago
what are you talking about? the cd-i never had any good games.. but it had a few hundred titles released for it.. multimedia, music and game titles... all shit
emuholic 3 years ago
And you know this from trying it yourself?
I wish people would try and come up with an original opinion once in a while.
videogameobsession 3 years ago
i have all the games for it pretty much, ive seen countless reviews videos of these games and yes ive playtested them all.. complete rubbish
has it ever occured to you that the reason so many people say the same unoriginal thing about the cdi (that its shit) is because it's true?
emuholic 3 years ago
No, It's occurred to me that the internet is full of idiots though. Those idiots listen to other idiots and they pass on their same ideas without trying the games for themselves. Knowing the CD-i doesn't EMULATE well I'm sure you haven't tried it for yourself.
videogameobsession 3 years ago
the console i tried them all on isn't mine.. so how can you be sure? lol!
