I believe your speculation is quite accurate. I also agree that he was left bitter as his feelings ran deepIt would be nteresting to find out if in time they might reconcil. He's married to Susi Bick, a beautiful woman, who (I think) bears a physical resemblance to PJ.

I love 'West Country Girl' (and this song, as a matter of fact). And yes, WCG is absolutely about PJ, and at least a couple other songs on that album were too (though they aren't all about her, as some may think). Whatever happened, it seems Cave was left a little bitter about the experience, even after years had passed. Seemed like his drug use was one of the issues, but I'm only speculating here.

Interviews with Nick reveal he had something with PJ-see this site under interview #1,2 or 3. Nick alludes that he was rejected by a woman when they bring her up. The press note he was completely devastated -they only were together a short time. The "Boatman's Call" has been brought up as they keep on him re "West Country Girl" where he sings of a girl with a "heart shaped face and black hair". This is the one the press are saying is a reference to PJ,and he doesn't really deny it.
