I can't believe Ariel Helwani hasn't been scooped up by ESPN yet. Maybe ESPN has tried but at this point who knows maybe he is making more on the internet then he would at ESPN
Interesting for Helwani to list Cossell and Jim Gray as the two media personalities he studies. Both of them are the same sort of instigators Helwani's been the past few years. As "unprofessional" as it may seem, it leads to a solid gold promo like his Backstage with Chael Sonnen clip.
I've always looked at regrets the same way. You can't look back & say 'woulda, coulda, shoulda.' Shit happens & you just have to move on with your life.
Ariel was right when he talked about how Joe will go down in history as the iconic mma commentator, and Joe was right when he talked about how Ariel is the best mma interviewer in the business. Keep up the good work, both of you!
I love Joe's commentary, but the one thing that's really missing from UFC commentary wise is a knowledgeable striker. When it goes to the ground Joe is perfect, but neither him nor Goldie can really get the same level of technical detail when it comes to striking. Bring in Bas Rutten to work with Joe Rogan and you'd have the perfect broadcast team.
@Phoeniflyer YES. me and my buddys were talking the other week that Bas and Joe would be the ultimate broadcasting team. put goldberg backstage interviewing the fighters or some shit haha
@Phoeniflyer I think he does well commentating the striking as well. He's a huge boxing fan so you can bet he knows a good amount of technique there. And he's a TKD black belt/champ so he definitely knows striking.
Damn Joe Rogan went kinda deep.I completely agree with the last 30 sec of this clip Ariel is the fucking best at what he does and he makes it seem effortless.
I think both these guys do a great job. Joe is going way over the top with his false modesty. Yes, it's all about the fighters but great commentating does add to the experience. Ariel is right about there being bad commentators. The UFC would go on without Joe, but I really enjoy what he brings to the events.
Well, maybe a joke suggestion could be about if one of the fighters actually DOES ask a question when asked by the ref at the beginning of a match, and then maybe keeps asking a few more afterward.
Im a huge Joe Rogan fan. I liked him on fear factor and I thought he was gonna be a bit of a joke on UFC but I was super impressed, and still am. I also agree that Ariel Helwani is the best at what he does for sure.
@breastmilkdabestmilk yes you're right. But I saw him on fear factor first, then was getting into UFC later on. I only had a couple old UFC's on tape before Rogan was on it.
@mattitudev1hardy well whenever you hear joe rogan say "oh he has him in mission control" or " oh he needs to zombie" or any of that weird slang thats all 10th planet. Joe trains under eddie bravo..
fuck that shit, hbo's commentary team wouldnt know what the shit was going on. I'll admit that sometimes rogans 10th planet shit can get annoying but his knowledge of the sport gives a great insight,
@MrBThatsMe during a backstage live ustream for UFC Fitch, Chael Sonnen & Dan Hardy were talking about how Rogan argues even when he is wrong. Rogan is a prime example of a pseudo-intellectual who gets much of his info from random google searches &constantly tries to manipulate the convo to agree with his stream of consciousness rambling/ranting even if he may be completely/partially wrong or unsure. i just think he comes off as a know-it-all, very argumentive &sometimes disagreeable
joe is always high as giraff pussy .hes not gonna claim on that fame when hes waving his stoner pride flag durring all the fights.i totaly get the lack of wanted attention to him announcing all smushed on kush.
@grouchybear .i love purp and purp loves me.joe isnt commentating as a career objective. its frank mir and joe that are the only solid dudes that can realy explain the ground action to the common viewer.i think joe is just realy conscious about outshining mike goldburg.now that dude is very career orientated with his position in the sport and if joe realy pushed the issue with hosts being able to relate everything to the viewer poor mike would probabeley get the boot.joe knows and doesnt want it
Ariel....keep up the great work...Like Joe said i like your interviews with the mma world...your pertty smooth and perfessional....love it....And what would mma be without the commentary of Rogan & Golberg....they are the best at what they do....they make the fights so kickass exciting and educational...

Joe Rogan maybe humble. But like Ariel said. Many years from now when rogan isn't commentating there will be a huge void to fill.
Whether Joe thinks so or not, he is a huge part of the UFC and one of the best parts of the overall presentation. It will be very difficult to find another honest personality like his.

@JohnnyDarko01 i agree but i think he will be recognised along with golberg as the legends of MMA broadcasting because there are no other mma commentators atm that can do the job that they do, the knowledge, the excitement, the craziness. like damn we are lucky enough to witness the era of which a sport is growing so i'm happy
@JohnnyDarko01 im not so sure about that. im a fan of joe but there are a number of guys who could fill his shoes when it comes to mma broadcasting. especially 30 years from now when more people begin to understand the sport and they have sports broadcasting schools with programs dedicated to mma broadcasting. not to mention once former ufc fighters start retiring and start looking for a job. (ex. bas rutten) just look at all the athletes in other sports who retire and move on to broadcasting
joe fucking bombed on the show, he was getting boo'ed, there was a time when a beer bottle flung at him and he had to duck. I think he was saying one of his same jokes about monkeys smoking weed or something.
"It's nothing, it's easy. It's not hard." "I think you're being too humble." "My effort is minuscule. I'm not proud of it. I don't deserve any accolades." This guy sure does beat up on himself.
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
Bas Rutten would beat Rogan's ass like danga-da-danga-da-dang if they were put together commentating.
Rogan thinks he knows everything and says retarded shit all the time.
And talks shit about Tapout T-shirts when he sports/sponsored by that shit.
And he thinks freaken ancient aliens created the ****ing human race to mine gold for them to finally return, collect the gold so the aliens can buy giant intergalactic FLESHLIGHTS.
