  • Listen to that Strat. Sounds like a tele!!!

  • WOW, there's not too many great videos like this one out there at all.

  • WOW! It's not playback!

  • Listen to that strat pop

  • @Vada thks for the info. Will do! I read that he relocated there. Nashville's loss! Hugs..

  • Wow, that Derek guy on lead guitar looks promising. Did he ever make it? ;-)

  • You can meet him.. He plays at the Saxon in Austin, TX every Sunday night.

  • OMMMMGGGG! I'd give anything to meet Bobby Whitlock---and you're his mama. Whadda talent.

  • Thank you so much for your comments. LaVada

  • Damn, that was good.

  • Bet your bottom dollar it was LIVE. No Lip Synch... I was there in Nashville, sitting on the front row . My name is LaVada Whitlock, I'm 81 years old, and Bobby Whitlock is my son. Great show.

  • @vada38127

God bless you LaVada........Wishing you the best.

  • @vada38127 Let your son know that he was in one of this 18-year-old's favorite bands. Derek and the Dominos and their album have meant so much to me!

  • Even though Jim Gordon killed his mother with a hammer I still think along with Jim Keltner that they were the best drummers of this era.

  • Live, live, live...no lip-synch ever, not on that show. Bob Wooten hit a few wrong notes on instrumentals that John would kid him about before continuing with the song.

  • It makes me want to cry everytime.

  • Merci!

  • eric and the smackinos more like

  • it's such a pity that this band didn't last a bit longer. judging by this live t.v appearance, they had great potential. i wonder why duane allman didn't appear with them

  • @aewd1980 duane had touring committments with the allman brothers so he couldnt be there to play. i dont think he would have quit to join eric permanently anyway though.

  • @putdownan8dude - no i agree, duane's place would have always been with the allman brothers band. nevertheless, it's a great feeling knowing that he was in the dominoes band some of the time, lending his incredible talent.

  • Jim Gordon went insane..

  • They were coked out of there minds for this show according to Bobby's book. He also said when they introduced them at first Johnny said "from London England" and Bobby said "ah excuse me I'm from Memphis, he's from Hollywood, and he's from Tulsa." Johnny laughed and reintroduced them. When Johnny first came out he said "Who's on speed?" This was at the height of his addiction. Can you tell?

  • I think this performance is lip synched. Often happened for television back in the late 60's and early 70's. I may be wrong but I don't think so.

  • @stevef1961 I don't know about the lip synch. Whitlock's veins are bulging out of his temples when he sings and they're sweating a lot.

  • @305bigdad I think they did this live.

  • @stevef1961

know what you mean, but cash's show featured live performances. plus, if it was lip synched the band, who are obviously playing live, would have to be able to match up with pre-recorded vocals. as a musician myself, i think this would be insanely difficult. and just look at the keyboard player...definitely not lip synching. also, they begin playing while cash was talking...then started again. it's an awesome performance.

  • @earinsound you are absolutely correct. Everybody played live on that show. Joni Mitchell, Dylan everybody. I watched every episode way back when and more often than not in the middle of the end-of-show jam Johny would say "See ya next week." and the credits would role.

  • @stevef1961 You are absolutely wrong and you have no idea what you're talking about if you think this is lip synched.

  • Duane's on the rear right !

  • @TheFishMiester Duane???????? do you mean Duane Allman? That's Carl Radle pal.

  • fuckin christ look at the sideburns on that clapton

  • And sorry for the double post. My PC is a piece of shit.

  • EC is amazing as always... but hates off to Whitlock. He is rather impressive with his backing vocals. I mean honestly i love just about everything Eric does but Bobby makes this cut for me. Just look at the veins in his head bulging out, he kills it. But yeah Eric kills it too. The Dominoes are one of my favorite incarnations of a Clapton band. For me it probably goes Beano then Layla. Just impressive. A true artist.

  • @mikeanddandaman Yeah Whitlock has tons of soul. He;s still performing with his wife CoCo down in Austin. He stole her from Delaney. The asshole finally got what he deserved for all the grief he caused Bobby. His songwriting too on the album is great. It was also his idea to keep the tapes running at all times so some great takes weren't lost. What an amazing outfit they were!

  • con mucho sentimiento cantan los paisas bonito tema que llega al corazon de la musica campesina muy chida.

  • The Man in Black knew his shit.

  • Well this is just freaking phenominal. I actually remember watching this way back when............forty years? LOL. Thanks for posting this.

  • Now this is music. Don't forget Derek and the dominos - Laya Deluxe Edition cd was released a few days ago! Has these tracks on the bonus disc! Pick it up!

  • @bluesdog88 thats actually brownie, one of two guitars clapton made, the other one being blackie =P

  • @lm94facepalm - just a note... clapton didn't 'make' them. Brownie was a 1956 Standard Strat, Blackie was assembled from a '56 and '57 that he bought here in Nashville. He originally bought 6 Strats, gave 3 away (one each to George Harrison, Pete Townshend and Steve Winwood) then took the adler body from a '56, the C-shaped neck from the '57, mix matched p'ups & electronics, so Blackie was not a custom build, but a hybrid Strat, made from all Fender parts.

  • @sunilthegreat you are very much correct, my mistake =]

  • @sunilthegreat although when i said he built blackie that is what i meant =P

  • Does Mr. Countryguitar realize that this song was written by Chuck Willis, who died in 1958 and that this is a cover song?

  • That's so good it hurts.

  • Since Duane's not performing, isn't this really just Eric and the Dominoes? ahhehehha...

  • m i the only one who relized tht carl's bass head is red?

  • MediaScoresCenter Man, thanks for this amazing quality post! Even though my heart leaped because I thought - just for a second - that maybe Duane Allman... Loved it every bit just the same.

  • I love this!!!

  • Still the best live video footage of the dominoes. Wish there was more out there. Radle and gordon along with Bobby Whilock madew up the best that Mr. God ever played with.

  • Back in the late 60's Eric never looked the same......Every time a photo came out he had a different look !!!

  • flawless, crowd went ballistic...Eric and his band members were too ahead of their time...

  • I stay watching this video many many times, everything in it is perfect, the vocals, the guitar's solo, the ambience ...I cant get tired of this.

  • @recifense83 I tought that i was only one !!!!hahaha certainly clapton is GOD!!!!

  • Could anyone tell me what Johnny say at the gebinning? I can't undersatand him

    Thanks!!

  • Awesome quality, thanks for the up!! I wonder if any of the bits on eric's strat went to make up Blackie.

  • when did Johnny Cash have a tv show?

  • @jasonwheel

    70's

  • Dunno if anyone noticed it yet, but uhm... the quality is insane! Thanks v. much for sharing.

  • lol damn these guys are a lot greasier in HD

  • When I first watched this, I thought Bobby Whitlock looked kinda creepy at the piano.

However, after hearing "Thorn tree in the Garden" and reading the history behind it, I'm now under the impression that he may have been in a bit of pain singing this song if he was thinking about his dog.

His expression certainly seems agonized at times.

  • Short lived Johnny Cash show had some eclectic guests, but none more different than this group. Killer drummer, literally! The dude murdered his Mom.

  • eric and duane were close mates they jammed for a while then did a few recordings, cos d@d wre only around for maybe 2-3 years maybe not even that , in all of the bands that he played in throughout his career they never lasted anylonger than 3 years for ex cream 2 y blind faith 1 year and their just 2 of his bands his been in, in the past

  • @auteur116 this is after....duane was only there for the recoding of the album....agter that Eric took the band and went on his own. That amazing concert "derek and the dominos live at the fillmore east" is without Duane as well...but trust me EC blows the roof off...no need for duane when god's at his best!

  • Duane did join for a couple of shows at the end of DaTD US tour: bootlegs (allegedly) on youtube. After the album was recorded, the band began to split apart due to drink, drugs & EC losing heart in his battle to win 'Layla' from George Harrison.

  • Love this, except for the mullet on EC. But his playing is soulful enough that you forgive him for it

  • The late great Carl Radle laying the groove on his trademark sunburst Precision Bass. He should be inducted into the new sideman wing of the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame. The man laid the low end on so many platinum & gold albums it is unbelievable. If interested go read teh Discography page on the web 'CarlRadle' web site. Just run a search for Carl Radle, can't miss it. Tulsa misses you Carl. And, we miss your music!

  • Mr.Countryguitar, have you been inducted into the rock and roll hall of fame three separate times? Just wondering.

  • @MrCountryguitar .The only thing elementary is your attitude.Get your head out of you superpicker ass.

  • all you guys should buy the johnny cash show dvd so much great music and it's from back then which is pretty sweet

  • Duane was never a member, he just sat in for a few songs. This is DATD.

  • @super70bird

and for a few live gigs...I saw DATD with Duane at the Onondaga County War Memorial in Syracuse..December 1970

  • love it!

  • Holy Toledo! Never thought I'd see this ensemble on Cash's show. Cool!

  • Agreed.Johnny had some brilliant guests on his show. This is fantastic.

  • Thanks Tuks for turning me on to this Derek and the Dominos performance! Johnny always had such great guests on his show. Cheers MediaScoresCenter for this wonderful upload!

    Peace!~Ted

  • sweet ~ wow
