Finally, in 2011, a ninth film was released to a single theater in California for a crew showing that was ostensibly open to the public. Hellraiser: Revelations is the first film not to feature Doug Bradley as Pinhead and was shot in two weeks for $300,000. It was suggest that the film was only shot so that The Weinstein Company would not lose its rights to the franchise before it could produce a more profitable remake of the original. The film was released on DVD on October 18th 2011
I saw all the movies yesterday. and wow. If you're reading this, ONLY watch the first 3 movies. they are the only good ones to watch. The rest have nothing to do with Pinhead and use the movie title to get more people to watch it. so depressing. SPOILER: In the 3rd one, I can't believe ALL the cenobites died to fucking easily to the dr guy.... pinhead the fuckiNG RULER of the underworld dead in no less than 2 seconds by his knife being cut.. wtf?
@TheRealEzzy I think you're getting them mixed up. The cenobites died in the second one, not the third, and the first movie to reduce Pinhead's role was the fifth one, not the fourth (the one with the space station).
@LeadCeno Yeah it was the second one, my bad. but you can't deny that all the cenobites die WAY to easily, I meant come on. what were they thinking? idk if it was the 4th or 5th one where there is the detective dude, i think 5th? Yeah, that one blew monkey chunks. I didnt even bother watching the entire last film with the teens that get sucked into the 'game'.
the new hellraiser is going to be in 3D i read.. im worried, but then you could never remake this and have the same effect on me watching it at about 8 years of age lol!
@TheRealEzzy watch the movie. Frank was a victim of the cenobites who was torn apart by the hooks afte having solved the puzzle box. His brother Larry cuts his hand on a nail and the blood brings Frank back allowing his soul to escape from hell.
@D3at4not3 Good comment! But ya know this sort of movie and production , now days it would be to much effort for Hollywood to make. But i hope Clive Barker does make up with a new Hellraiser! hmm
@D3at4not3 because people will bitch that its too nasty and disgusting. and i somewhat agree. no amount of CG special effects can replicate seeing a stop motion/animatronic gore fest. those 90s and 80s horror films with excessive gore...i think they had a certain feel to them. im too old to be scared by it now, but i still get freaked out a little by horror like this, even though i know its fake
@TheTrippyHippo cause in the book the only reason he was able to come back was because even thought not in the film the book before the physcial toutre begain he was tourtured mentally he has holonations of past sexul encounters and he jizzed on the floor the bloof laning were he came brought him back
they dont make em like this anymore eh, bit of a shame really, anamatronic and puppet effects for horrors would look tottally realistic these days, but even with a bullet to the head, they use bloody c.g.i. for the effect of someones head getting blown off, im not knocking c.g.i, but they should only use it when something isnt possible to do physically with model and makeup and stuff, just cuz u can spot c.g. a mile off, i good example of good puppet effects is defo 'the thing'
Man, I'm studying technical cg fx, but I gotta say, violence and gore should NEVER be cg! This scene is one of the most incredible things I've ever seen! :D
Weird, it only takes a little of Larry's blood to bring Frank maybe 75% back but it takes the blood of several men to bring him 99%. Guess because they're brothers or something.
@amarieoflothlorien I mean Frank is not much different despite the fact his brothers blood brought him back almost complete. He still needed a lot of bodies after that.
@elezzar thumbs up, watch lords of the rings or any movie with cgi from 5 years ago, is it me or does it look like cgi fades alot. I can absolutely tell, which scenes was cgi and it really takes away from the realism the movie is trying to portray.
@kingoftheworld4ever1 Yup, at 30 secs mark, that look absolutely terrifying. With cgi everything happens so fast. With special effects, its a art, a gross out artform that require talent to do.
@kingoftheworld4ever1 I was just thinking how terrible this scene would look in a remake, lol. Obviously because of the CGI. You just can't beat tangible effects.
My friend from school about 15 years ago when I was 7 put this on. I watched the scene where she goes in the attic and frank grabs her leg and chases her. Absolutely shit myself. Had nightmares for weeks and have never watched this film again. These days I will watch ANY scary film, Excorcist, The Shining, Saw, Halloween, Silence of the lambs etc etc but this scarred me for life. Hi! Everyone i have the whole Series of Hellraiser movies, and i will adding special scene's, from time to time. But please Note they are only clips from the movie lol. And for all your Dark Visceral Gore still tuned to lddcreepykid :)
@soat7ch You're correct... in some ways, the older films had better special effects. The Thing (1982) comes to mind. Today's CG effects lack something...though I can't really say what it is.
I don't like the qualifier "for such an old movie." (don't take this comment the wrong way) This is a very gross, but well-made sequence, by any definition. Because it was done with what is thought of today as "old" technology, this actually adds to how good it really is. I'm sure we agree; so much more ingenuity went into film-making back then in every aspect of the process, from the writing to post-production, and everything in between. I personally think old films look better.
@5jerry1i did not want to judge by calling it old, it's just... from the 80's. But if you compare this with, for example the Exploding Ship in the A-Team Movie (where you see that the full scene is digitally generated) you can see how much work the creators put in it. The only thing that was a bit annoying in the old (German Synchronized) Hellraisers, is that some scenes ar not fully Translated and The people still talk in english. i watched it in English which made a unexpected text difference
