I stumbled upon this today. Koko is a compassionate animal. I can't get enough of the Youtube videos of these magnificent animals. They can teach us a thing or two. I am curious about how Koko learned to associate words with actions. At this moment I feel so much grief at the death of Tiny the baby gorilla who was attacked by his stepfather in a zoo in England. Other animals you would not expect it from at all have been shown to exhibit "compassion" for another species.. for instance a lioness was filmed "mothering" an infant gazelle after killing its natural mother, protecting it from other lions for as long as she could. The famous "Crow and Cat" also comes to mind. Although this can be argued away by claiming mothering instinct, it is certainly a form of compassion.

I'm not sure what I'm gonna do if I ever leave college, but it's nice here at the beach.
