you know what`s Not good with the N8? ...is that you can`t add numbers from the protocol to the adressbook - if you missed a call and go to protocol and want to add the number - it dials it immediatly ... so you have to sit down with a pencil, notate the number and add it manually - that`s no good.
Also I'd like to know does nokia improved volume control over multimedia players cause minimum level of sound loudness is too high if listening in quiet places, at eveninig etc. I expect something similar to some mp3 players i.e. iPod. Sometimes i need to listen radio or music at night and I have to use extra player.
I watched all three of these videos. Why is this guy so unhappy? He's Senior Product Manager at Nokia, so he must be making good money. Is he worried people will hate the phone? I mean, people who sell stuff are much happier, even when they fake it.
having watched these vids i think im gunna get this phone i was gunna go out and buy a n97 but ill wait now till this comes out. Which networks will it be out on?
Symbian, functionally is very, very powerful, more power than iOS and Android combined, but the UI is a mess, if the whole phone was as smooth as the music player app, I would not complain, but the rest of the phone is laggy, jittery and slow. Looks like Nokia made sure that all those poor 680 megahertz of the ancient ARM11 chip and the GPU are dedicated to keeping the music app smooth, screw the rest of the UI.
This is one of the worst videos I have seen from Nokia. Chris Bennett, hold your head in shame. If you were the man that released the nightmare N97 to the world. Then you should be unemployed now!!!!!
The Nokia N8 is actually a great phone but i think the way the widgets show on the screen is too N97 like ( Aka it Fails), a more flexible workspace like the n900 one would be more suitable: i think Nokia is actually holding back like they did from the n97 to the N900.
Also, the touch screen seems NOT THAT GREAT and the phone a bit laggy :(.
Im a NOKIA lover so WTF? Nokia N8 FTW... Screw IPHONE
he Chris, i have a question? Does it support divx hd like Samsung Galaxy S? Because Galaxy S plays most files (divx hd, avi, mkv, wmv, mpeg 4 and other new files) And other thing is that N8 has 640x360 pix and not 800x480. I don't get it man, it's 2010. I hope u can fix that with a software update or other way. For the rest it's a nice phone.
@isaachernandez i dont have the 5800... but it would seem ODD if there were no search function... even my n95 has a search function by just typing... (but since this is keypadless thats a good question)
@StylinRed The V50.0.005 update doesn't have the "find" option in the music player. You can go through all the list and it will show you the letter in which you are surfing. The other way is going to main menu and search in your content, you will find the song, but it will play just the result. New update is urgent for the 5800 :(
He didn't say anything about the 720p, the 5.1 Dolby Digital surround sound, the 32gb expandable microsd slot.. Get someone else to do this video, I could do it better and I've never even held the N8.

I for one have been a Nokia user since 2003. From my very old 6600 (first generation), N70, N93, N95 8GB to the N96, I have enjoyed its benefits with no problems nor concerns at all.
I now own an N97 since November 2009, which by the way is already at the Nokia Care Center here in the Philippines (approximately only 7 months old), which is quite a huge disappointment. The UI has become a disaster after upgrading my firmware to 2.0, the materials used on the handset are of low standards (e.g. paint chipping off the steel band surrounding the QWERTY keyboard), some crackling sounds inside the
@adamousmaximus i have to agree. Im a Nokia customer since 1997 or something around, i also own the N97 and i also feel ripped off by nokia. The N73 was extremely slow - i love the day i get a replacement, the N97 but even a few days after i wished i had bought a SonyEricsson Satio.
This time i will test the N8 before i buy it and if there is anything like with the N97 i'll leave Nokia forever and go to SE.
device, discoloration around the 3.5mm jack et al). I have never in my life (as a Nokia loyalist) expected to feel quite ripped off by Nokia. Now that I've experienced all this in quite a short period of time with the N97, I honestly feel doubtful of the Nokia N8's "supposed" upgrades. I do hope Nokia proves me wrong upon the release of this "over-hyped" smartphone that comes with the new Symbian ^3 OS. As for the processor (which is still below 1GHZ), I also hope that it gives
justice to the "multitasking prowess" of this model. I do wish that they play more attention to the Music Player. The "cover flow effect" and the "flick scroll" hopefully aren't just aesthestics to cover up any unsavory music nuisance (e.g. the "back button" bringing the user to the desktop, rather than going back to the "playlist" and not just the "album"). But then again, these are just my thoughts of my recent experience with a Nokia Nseries device, which I hope Nokia pays attention to.
Hey Nokia - I've been looking forward to your N8 for a while now, and I'm loving what you've done with it. Everyone's a critic - and unfortunately, ungracious ones at that - but I, for one, actually enjoy this 3-part overview. I've owned many Nokia handsets over the past 12 years, and every one has been a testimony to your attention to call quality and handset durability.
As such, I'm looking VERY forward to the public release of the N8 and waiting to purchase one myself. Press on!
@gWAPgUNNAZ for the people who hate symbian..go and get you self iphone or htc...oh ya by the way the iphone 4 is a TOTAL failure lol iphone got problem with the antenna..and the others like htc or so on well just wait till they suck all your money up by up grading bit by bit...i like nokia they just put all the good things into the phone!! NOKIA rules!!!!!!
@danniechua don't be so harsh on HTC, i own a Hero and i have it since august last year. The build quality is great, no antenna related problems, i'm very content with the phone, but i want to switch back to Symbian, i used it since the old 6600, and i miss it. The only problem the N8 has is that i can't decide which color :D
@toteu0000 i admit that HTC build quality is superb! only problem with them is they love to upgrade slowly.. swt...but to think it in a way... if they dont to that they wont have much for R&D i think..
@danniechua I respect Nokia aswell because although they may not make a perfect phone and it won't be to your exact liking; it will always do what you want it to do, even if it only makes calls, you'll always be able to make a call.
The spokesman reminds me of the PC guy in the PC & Mac commercials. Does Nokia even think about marketing??? A high-tech phone like the N8 won't appeal so much to 40yo dads in sweaters & button-downs. No offense to this guy, but what is Nokia thinking? Although the N-Series have always been superior to iPhones, 'N-Series' isn't as catchy as iPhone, Bold, Curve, etc. Nokia needs to come up with catchy names & much cooler spokespersons. This is right out of the PC & Mac commercials.
Okay...this phone is an EXACT copy of the Motorola Devour. COME ON...don't even say no. Not only does it look very similar to the devour, but so does its content. The conversation mode of texting is NOT original by Nokia...its Motorola's. Also, Motorola was the first to use the name "widgets" for apps. The multiple home screen ideas are not original, you have Apple to thank for that. Wow...Nokia is losing it big time. This is quite pathetic
You know what i'd like to see from this phone? I want it to have UI transition animations like what you guys (nokia) CLAIMED that the n97 would have in your videos of it . This phone is a bit of an improvement, but its still quite bland in the aesthetics (UI) department. You guys have 2 months left; fix it.
@TheMontegonian transitions have already been confirmed or demoed from what i hear... and aesthetically i dont know what you're expecting... it looks no different than a android or iphone... you could always customize themes if you dont like the stock icons... have people forgotten about customizing?? i've been doing it since my n95 was released..
@StylinRed You must work for Nokia. Thats the only way someone could come out and say, "it looks no different than a android or iphone...". I love my nokias (yes, plural) but even I have to admit that, aesthetically, android and iphone are lightyears ahead of symbian. On the topic of "customizing"; it is a NECESSITY for nokia phones because of how bland the base UIs are. And to get EXACTLY what you want, you'd have to DIY. I dont know about you, but I don't want to pay for that kind of hassle.
@TheMontegonian rofl no; imho they are extremely similar and as for customizing it's part of what i enjoy about my nokia because i can customize it to how i like
but i guess if you just want something you'll be agreeable with out of the box that the UI isn't for everyone (i certainly got bored of it quickly; but i've always loved customizing)
@StylinRed i should add (i dont have an iphone but i have an itouch) that i got bored of my itouchs UI just as quickly and i don't know of being able to customize it; i'm not sure if that's different with the Iphone?
All These People Complaining About The Way The Interface Looks, If You Idiots Had A Brain This Would'nt Be A Problem Because You Can Just Change The Theme Or Better Yet You Could Change The OS To Android, SPB, Maemo, Or Whatever.
This Is Symbian, Not The iPhone OS With All It's Restrictions.
pointless as barriers to entry for developers are too high, nokias naming convention is too ambiguous and now theyre following the toymakers. After 15 years of constant nokia loyalty am about to go HTC. Nokia please shut the door as you follow Motorola out of it. You should remember They hung onto their inferior OS for too long too. take heed
That's not new and innovative at all! It looks like every other music playing interface ever made, and for the "what we call landscape", ever heard of Apple's CoverFlow?!?
yea me too.. i prefer consistent controlled QUALITY over freedon of Symbian OS... iphone 4 even lacks features from Nokia N8... Yes that N8 almost has everthing, but i prefer buying a phone that is CONSTANT QUALITY than of the HOPE'S of better QUALITY... why i'd said hopes? coz Nokia fans always say "i hope this symbian ^3 is a improvement rather than disapointment" all the time... see? PEOPLE are hoping that nokia will improve OS, but iphone already has great and stable phone..
@NaurskiySpecnaz yea me too.. i prefer consistent controlled QUALITY over freedon of Symbian OS... iphone 4 even lacks features from Nokia N8...
I would really appreciate it if nokia would give the n8 the ability to install meego or maemo on the n8 from the ovi store or something like that, thumbs up if you feel the same way,but still i like symbian 3 and think that is an awesome os but i would like it to see on the x6,n97 mini and c6 and on the n8 it works also very good...
the music thingie looks great an d the hdmi, and the hd videorecording and editing, and the 3 screens, and its ui looks smooth too!:P it either a buy, or wait for the next phone, its Nokia no matter what^^
Going crazy watching these videos everynight before sleep...just waiting for the launch..Yes Im using an N97 now and unfortunately nokia disappointed me on this one..but cant help going mad over the N8
Say what you want but I like the size of the screen(3.5inch),because it is going on my nerves when phones od 3.7 inch and more does not fit in my pocket, thnx nokia for thinking on that!!!
"Yup it is 2-finger multi-touch. But the good news is that they fixed all those lag issues you see in the original N8 videos from April - pinch-zoom, swipes were working pretty smooth ...
...Android doesn't even come close - I tried my N1 with Froyo and compared it to my friend's N8. No contest N8 was loads more responsive than the N1. So that should settle the 1Ghz debate."
@FuckMePictures Are You Sure It's "Definately" ??? I Mean The Only Real Difference Between The N8 And N900 Is The N8 Has A Better Camera And No Keyboard.
@07liberian well its supposed to be using the new ^3 , and yeh 12 mp cam , but n900 is just not the solid device , yes it is good , but it needs improvment , i cant say surely because n8 is not out yet , but concidering everything n8 will be a much better devices , its advertisments are huge , lots of videos , lots expectations . I would recomend you to just wait untill it comes out and few reviews and videos will be placed on youtube . I will probably buy the n8 , it looks greate .
@07liberian n900 was a replace for n97 , just maemo wont go far , and if u know nokia is now creating a mobile with Intel processor ....X9 .... . It will be a meego device , its supposed to be 4 inch screen , device is not even leaked out but it will be the HUGE BANG !!! But it is only on paper now , all we can do is just wait for the new mobiles with Intel pricessor , which hopefuly will make the devices faster and more reliable . Hope it helps . MY advice is just wait ......
@FuckMePictures Me, I Know Better Than To Believe ANY Of Nokia's Rumors. The N900 Was Rumored Like Almost 2 And A Half Years Before It Was Released. So Far It's The Best Device Nokia Has Pulled Out Of It's Ass.
I Doubt The "X9" Or Whatever It Will Be Called Will Be Officially Announced Before 2nd Quarter Of 2011.
@FuckMePictures Thats True, But There Is No Guarantee That The New "Better" Device Will Be The Right Device For You.
Based On Some Of The New Nokia Phones, It Seems That Nokia May be Moving Away From Keyboards And Are Moving Towards The All Touchscreen Style Of Phones. If That's True And You Prefer A Keyboard, The N900 Might Be The Best Device For You Regardless Of What Else Is Out.Or Coming Out That Does'nt Share The Same Form Factor
@kiranrad I Have The N900 And I Think That Maemo Is The More Stable OS Than Symbian 3 Is. Plus The Symbian 3 Software Might Be A Little Too New When It Comes Out With The Phone, I Predict ALOT Of Bugs.
Me Personally, I Won't Really Consider Symbian 3 As A Legit Smartphone OS Until Either It's Widely Accepted By The Tech Community Or After The 1st Major Firmware Update Is Released.
Ребята, самое главное - не натупите с DivX/Xvid , купите офф. лицензию. Иначе безтолку будет как видео ускоритель, не используемый сторонним софтом, так и HDMI.
Steve garon 1, u an idiot, there is a very very good lens in the n8, biggest sensor on any mobile phone on planet, nokia will own camera phones always, apple and tbe rest can piss off, wait and see the nokia n9 will own use all!
Symbian is still ugly as ****! They are playing catch up like apple is doing. Android still rules their IMO. I see no innovations here. BTW, 12 is no inovation, its just dumb. 5 MP would have been plenty. Better sensors is what we need. If there's too much MP we can't store as much pictures... Smaller MP, better sensors: That's the only way to go
this will be my third Nokia phone soon... :)
TechNerd105 6 months ago
Im gonna own that soon.. Oh yeah, I mean VERY VERY VERY SOON.... Thanks NOKIA...

The only problem I have with the music player is that it only arranges by Artist/Album at the same time. There's no way to have it only list artists and then you choose the artist and it branches to that artist's making it a little cluttered with the expanded memory. Otherwise, it works perfectly fine.

MrBeanIsTheBestOfAll 1 year ago
You know what i'd like to see from this phone? I want it to have UI transition animations like what you guys (nokia) CLAIMED that the n97 would have in your videos of it . This phone is a bit of an improvement, but its still quite bland in the aesthetics (UI) department. You guys have 2 months left; fix it.
TheMontegonian 1 year ago 28
@TheMontegonian transitions have already been confirmed or demoed from what i hear... and aesthetically i dont know what you're expecting... it looks no different than a android or iphone... you could always customize themes if you dont like the stock icons... have people forgotten about customizing?? i've been doing it since my n95 was released..
StylinRed 1 year ago
@StylinRed You must work for Nokia. Thats the only way someone could come out and say, "it looks no different than a android or iphone...". I love my nokias (yes, plural) but even I have to admit that, aesthetically, android and iphone are lightyears ahead of symbian. On the topic of "customizing"; it is a NECESSITY for nokia phones because of how bland the base UIs are. And to get EXACTLY what you want, you'd have to DIY. I dont know about you, but I don't want to pay for that kind of hassle.
TheMontegonian 1 year ago
@TheMontegonian rofl no; imho they are extremely similar and as for customizing it's part of what i enjoy about my nokia because i can customize it to how i like
but i guess if you just want something you'll be agreeable with out of the box that the UI isn't for everyone (i certainly got bored of it quickly; but i've always loved customizing)
StylinRed 1 year ago
@StylinRed i should add (i dont have an iphone but i have an itouch) that i got bored of my itouchs UI just as quickly and i don't know of being able to customize it; i'm not sure if that's different with the Iphone?

All These People Complaining About The Way The Interface Looks, If You Idiots Had A Brain This Would'nt Be A Problem Because You Can Just Change The Theme Or Better Yet You Could Change The OS To Android, SPB, Maemo, Or Whatever.
This Is Symbian, Not The iPhone OS With All It's Restrictions.

I have no problem with the symbian or the interface
all the features are great
the only problem with the phone is that it's not as fast as it should be

pointless as barriers to entry for developers are too high, nokias naming convention is too ambiguous and now theyre following the toymakers. After 15 years of constant nokia loyalty am about to go HTC. Nokia please shut the door as you follow Motorola out of it. You should remember They hung onto their inferior OS for too long too. take heed

yea me too.. i prefer consistent controlled QUALITY over freedon of Symbian OS... iphone 4 even lacks features from Nokia N8...

I would really appreciate it if nokia would give the n8 the ability to install meego or maemo on the n8 from the ovi store or something like that, thumbs up if you feel the same way,but still i like symbian 3 and think that is an awesome os but i would like it to see on the x6,n97 mini and c6 and on the n8 it works also very good...

some quote forom comments in engadget:
"Yup it is 2-finger multi-touch. But the good news is that they fixed all those lag issues you see in the original N8 videos from April - pinch-zoom, swipes were working pretty smooth ...
...Android doesn't even come close - I tried my N1 with Froyo and compared it to my friend's N8. No contest N8 was loads more responsive than the N1. So that should settle the 1Ghz debate."

FuckMePictures 1 year ago 2
@FuckMePictures Are You Sure It's "Definately" ??? I Mean The Only Real Difference Between The N8 And N900 Is The N8 Has A Better Camera And No Keyboard.
07liberian 1 year ago
@07liberian well its supposed to be using the new ^3 , and yeh 12 mp cam , but n900 is just not the solid device , yes it is good , but it needs improvment , i cant say surely because n8 is not out yet , but concidering everything n8 will be a much better devices , its advertisments are huge , lots of videos , lots expectations . I would recomend you to just wait untill it comes out and few reviews and videos will be placed on youtube . I will probably buy the n8 , it looks greate .
FuckMePictures 1 year ago
@FuckMePictures Do You Have The N900 ?
07liberian 1 year ago
@07liberian no , but i was researching about it and was thinking to get it , n8 was on its way
FuckMePictures 1 year ago
@07liberian n900 was a replace for n97 , just maemo wont go far , and if u know nokia is now creating a mobile with Intel processor ....X9 .... . It will be a meego device , its supposed to be 4 inch screen , device is not even leaked out but it will be the HUGE BANG !!! But it is only on paper now , all we can do is just wait for the new mobiles with Intel pricessor , which hopefuly will make the devices faster and more reliable . Hope it helps . MY advice is just wait ......
FuckMePictures 1 year ago
@FuckMePictures Me, I Know Better Than To Believe ANY Of Nokia's Rumors. The N900 Was Rumored Like Almost 2 And A Half Years Before It Was Released. So Far It's The Best Device Nokia Has Pulled Out Of It's Ass.
I Doubt The "X9" Or Whatever It Will Be Called Will Be Officially Announced Before 2nd Quarter Of 2011.
07liberian 1 year ago
@07liberian Yes it is the best device till now , but why to buy it if in few months a better device will be released .... i see no point in tht
FuckMePictures 1 year ago
@FuckMePictures Thats True, But There Is No Guarantee That The New "Better" Device Will Be The Right Device For You.
Based On Some Of The New Nokia Phones, It Seems That Nokia May be Moving Away From Keyboards And Are Moving Towards The All Touchscreen Style Of Phones. If That's True And You Prefer A Keyboard, The N900 Might Be The Best Device For You Regardless Of What Else Is Out.Or Coming Out That Does'nt Share The Same Form Factor
07liberian 1 year ago
@07liberian True , totally agreed
FuckMePictures 1 year ago
@07liberian I will probably get n8 too , just will wait for more reviews when it comes out .
FuckMePictures 1 year ago
@kiranrad I Have The N900 And I Think That Maemo Is The More Stable OS Than Symbian 3 Is. Plus The Symbian 3 Software Might Be A Little Too New When It Comes Out With The Phone, I Predict ALOT Of Bugs.
Me Personally, I Won't Really Consider Symbian 3 As A Legit Smartphone OS Until Either It's Widely Accepted By The Tech Community Or After The 1st Major Firmware Update Is Released.
Until Then The N900 Is The Way To Go.
07liberian 1 year ago
@07liberian though firmwares can be released fast , if he dony want to buy mobiles every 3-4 months then go for n8
