It's a German language game and entertainment show and the core of the show is the bets: ordinary people offer to perform some unusual (eg. really weird) and very difficult task. Like once a blindfolded farmer recognizing his cows by the sound they made while chewing apples, then they win a prize if they suceed in doing in it.

Haha. A German program for a German audience should not have to worry about the linguistic neuroses of English speakers.

Wetten dass, may have a phatic (socially constructed) meaning such as 'come up and check ou my lithographs'. There are very many American expressions that leave the rest of us cold, viz 'I am rooting for you', and 'Peace Corps' and overused expressions such as 'hero', and 'democracy'.

Thankfully, not the whole of humanity are American.
