I have a problem my dealer says that my press-fit bearing is broken but he did not know myself why I'm asking now as when I see it? Are there any showing signs it is only 3000 km has allso still fairly new ...
NEVER use a claw hammer for repair, ESPECIALLY if it has a wooden handle. Hammer is fastened onto its handle with nothing more than friction. This means that with repeated bashing the head could become loose and eventually fly out damaging your precious hand, frame or whatever happenes to be in its path. A hammer is only used to drive nails into wood. A mallet on the other hand screws onto its handle and is perfectly acceptable around machine shop, automotive repair shop, bike shop, ect.
Hmmm, have a comment on removing crankset. First of all you should loosen hex bolts and after that, plastic shellnut. In this order you do not need any force to remove plastic shellnut. When reinstalling cranks, there is no need to use ratchet tool, that's why tools for thightening plastic shellnut, are made from plastic and should be tighten with the hand. Otherwise, nice video. Thanks and no hard feelings...
@Bojchee agreed. if you tighten up the plastic preload nut too much, the bb will not last as long and turn slower, same thing as tightening the headset too much. :)
This video is mostly helpful, but you should have greased the cups and checked for correct alignment while tightening, instead of forcing them in like you did. You could have damaged the bottom bracket and/or the frame.
I have Shimano SM-BB91-41 in my Cube BB and it really does not feel very great even after a few hundred miles. My old LX crank bottom bracket seems to spin so much smoother and free.
Is there better replacement bottom bracket i can fit. I am running an XT FC-M770-10 Crank.
Was that an FSA BB you fiited in replacement on the shimano and are they better?
My current BB seems very stiff and has a lot of resistance when the cranks are spun.
This is exactly what I was looking for. I bought my Lapierre Zesty 514 for a while and the Shimano XT crankest makes horrible noises after only 3000km. I wanted to see the bearings. That was the first moment i saw a press BB. I was all like WTF. So i start to search. On the Shimano site NOTHING. Then i found this video. GREAT. I saw the tools that i need. TL-BB 12 and TL-BB 13. I searched again where can i buy it. After i saw the price i was so mad. I hate shimano, they make me always so mad.
There are several tools on the market to push the 'press fit' bb in. We put them into the frame dry without any grease. We used GT85 to clean the frame out first.
