The quest was from the village elder 6-star:

Piercing Crab

Plus a complete Ceanataur set.

NOTE:My Piercing Crab was Level 3 and has Power Barrel.

Another NOTE: Make sure that your HBG can use Pierce 1,2, and 3 with four shots available in one reload.

One more NOTE: Bring 30 Pin Tunas, 30 Sm Bone Husks, 99 Velociprey Fangs, and 99 Huskberries, and a Farcaster.

Last NOTE: Shoot Pierce form "SHELL" to the "HEAD/BODY" of Shen Gao Ren.

If you can't beat Elder Shen Gao Ren, try getting Blango Armor (For Anti-Quake) and a Corona. I had meat and fish... I think. Use the Town's defenses 'til you used the Dragonator, then jump down and hack and slash his legs.

i had the same problem a few days ago. i didn't make it unitl i killed it the 3rd time. you need 2 shen gaoren's pincer, 2 akantor fangs, and some other stuff. try getting those things and you should see it .

It's kind of tricky if you don't know already. Before you lower your HP, check on the status screen for your normal attack power. Once you drop your HP, check it again and you'll see that your Attack/Defence Power is raised.

There's no onscreen indicator.

you need to aim it's leg. It's legs can be injured twice, and will turn deep red...

you don't aim it's body if it's your first try... aim it's legs first... and use Balista on it.

heh, keep trying. it was the same for me. it was the same for everyone. you dont need to beat garuga BTW, and dont rush in. learn the attacks of the monster first. there are other ways to get to this area, but you need to get through lv4 first. and i wish i could hunt with someone too, but noone in vancouver plays MH =(

Get akantor bow. Both bow are really bad becuz of there spread shots. Akantor bow has the RapidLv4 as lv 3 so very useful on breaking the legs real fast. Use the pierce shot of the shell to get inside to it's weakness.

that depends on usage...if you use bow you can attack freely w/o getting damaged but smolder can hit him and more damage but you may hit by its feet...so its your choice
