JSF aint that cheap and dunno about its capabilities, they keep degrading it and raising the cost. Since they stopped the production line for the F-22, they should start making parts of it for new F-15s/16s/18s like the engines and radar.
@ml219 that's the point of this project... you have an F-15E, buy the SE mod for a couple million, and you slap it on in the hangar. You get the same thing as a JSF, only half the price, faster, carries more weapons. The only drawback is a slightly larger radar signature (not enough to make a difference) and it isn't VTOL.. of course the last time I checked, neither was the JSF lol.
Missing the paint, the tails, the digital flight controls, the full suite of AESA and avionics associated with the SE, the forward facing shaping and L.O. appliances. Again; putting the label SE on this video misses the point. They are using a regular strike eagle to test out appliances that can be fitted to this aircraft easily enough as in this case the conformal with weapons bays, This is no where close to what the SE will be and can not be called such.
I can honestly care less on how specific you get. Yes there is no real full blown Silent Eagle at the moment, only a prototype that has been called the "Silent Eagle" by it's manufacture. What your stating is a matter of opinion, where as mine is a matter of fact. This video is in no way miss-leading or wrong and this argument is a waste of time.
Correction. This is just an F-15E strike eagle that was suited up to do a test of the conformal weapons bay mounted on the left side. It is not an F-15SE.
Correction. Boeing has dubbed the modified F-15E1 as the first true demonstrator for the Silent Eagle, although it is missing the paint/tails. Also I already explained that this was a modified F-15E1 in the description.
The "Silent Eagle" is a series of modifications. Any E can be turned into an SE.. that was the point of the design. They are not going to actually "build" SE planes, they build the K and they build the exterior mod. SE is just the name of the mod which is swapped on or off at the hanger.. The only difference between what you say in the vid and what the koreans are getting is the paint. The plane build is the same. So yeah, it's an SE

An F-15C based variant of this aircraft would be awesome as an alternative for the F-22. With 3D TVC, of course.

Not bad spotting work here, enjoyed the vid... Boeing should donate an HD cam and give you a visitor pass for this effort!! :)

The quality really is a lot better before I change the file format and put it on youtube...right, with all the free PR Boeing gets from me ;).
