Forget Monroe, forget the so-called A-list of Hollywood starlets - Veronica Lake, according to Ava Gardner, had the most "impeccably flawless beauty to seduce the silver screen, and then some." I was 15 during the late 80's, and when I saw her in Sullivan's Travels, the scene in the Diner where she turns around, a wave of golden hair falling across her eye, and that FACE - well I had to hold my jaw with both hands! And her delivery of lines were understated; she was whip-smart to boot. Lovely!
I love film noir. Alan Ladd and Veronica Lake did film noir as good as anybody including Bogie, Bacall, Lupino, et. al. They certainly haven't been given the credit for groundbreaking cinema performances that they so richly deserve.
I adore Alan and Veronica! It's too bad that The Glass Key, The Blue Dahlia, Saigon and their other films aren't on region 1 dvd like This Gun For Hire.
They were fire onscreen, cool, blonde, and yet vulnerable - a perfect match! While they may not have been close in real life, at least they got along, worked well together and didn't feud. It's sad that they both would die young due to alcohol.
Wow, did this screen couple have great chemistry! Just saw This Gun for Hire. Next, another of their films. Thanks to you for creating this fine clip.
Thanks again for another great video and song selection. I am a subscriber to your videos and always enjoy them a great deal. You have a wonderful way of editing these videos. It's great to see someone who really appreciates these movies and great on screen chemistry.

It's really nice to see a tribute for them, thank you! They were so well suited to each other on screen and they fit so well in the film noir world.
