there is a book that predates either of these, it is called "the Secret of the ages" by Robert Collier, she even quotes him in her secret book... It is far more in depth and is one of the fudamental readings she used...

Napoleon Hill wrote the original "secret" from which all self help books seem to be based - read Think and Grow Rich and see!

I read a self-help book written during the Greek Dark Ages by Hesiod. They have always been popular. Think and Grow Rich is pretty interesting too. Chopra's stuff draws from the Vedanta traditions of India. Some of the texts he goes by were written somewhere around 2800 years ago. The Chandogya Upanishad comes to mind.

Just look up Esther and Jerry Hicks (who most current authors reference as a source)

Or look up verses from the bible saying "ask and ye shall receive"

these teachings are older than dirt, literally, but yes the Secret was never actually a "secret" it was just market that way to get people's attention. The gift of wisdom has to find as many ways to be given as there are people who need to be given it, as many translations as is needed to benefit everyone, that's why there are many religions, philosophies and teachers leading to the infinite source experiencing us experiencing it in as many forms as we give it.
